The new Nexus 7 is a substantial upgrade over last year's model, as Google has managed to fit a 1080p resolution into the same 7-inch screen without destroying performance or battery life. This year's offering makes the leap to a new Qualcomm S4 Pro N7 processor, comes with a rear-facing camera, and has the latest version of Android available. What could make it any better? Wider distribution. That's why the tablet is now available for purchase in Canada directly from Google Play.

The 32GB model, which is the size you should want if you're planning on using the new Nexus 7 for heavy gaming and media consumption, is available for CA$269. Yet for more casual use, the 16GB model will do just fine, and it's available for the lower price of CA$229. Aside from that, these are identical tablets, and both come with free shipping for a limited time. And while you're there, why not pick up the official case that's also now available?

Before now, the new Nexus 7 was only available in limited supply from a handful of Canadian retailers. If Google Play just isn't your cup of tea, you will soon be able to turn back to these alternatives. Future Shop or Best Buy are both offering pre-orders and expect to restock on August 16th.

They fixed it but it previously stated that "This year's offering makes the jump up to Tegra 4, comes with a rear-facing camera,"

Busted. I feel a particular quote from a certain Texas governor is appropriate here.

Ahh Geez... I was going to save my coin for something else.

    But... $229 & free shipping ? That's pocket change for a tablet & I figure I got my $250 worth from the 2012 model.

Now ordered, with GST and PST taxes: CA $263.29

I hope this goes smoother than my 2013 purchase which took way too many weeks without any reply to my emailed questions from Google Canada.

I just ordered my unit from the Play Store. It works out to be about $15 cheaper after taxes for the 32GB when buying in Ontario versus BB/FS. I'll cancel my BB order now.
