The new Nexus 7 is just now filtering out to expectant owners, and Google itself hasn't even shipped the product. That hasn't stopped Poetic from tweaking its popular Slimline case to fit the new Nexus. The case won't ship until August 23rd, but it's going to launch for only $5.99.

The Slimline is a flip case with a folding cover that can prop up the tablet in landscape orientation. The versions for the 2012 N7 and Nexus 10 have gotten good reviews, especially considering the low price. It's a nice-looking case too. Note, the images appear to feature the 1st gen Nexus 7, but this is probably a close approximation of how the new case will look.

The only color currently listed for the new N7 is black, but the others are sure to show up at some point if you want to wait it out.

Update: there's also a Slimbook case for only $3.95. More colors for the Slimline are available too.

I don't know what it is but that Nexus 7 in the picture ain't no Nexus 7 i've ever seen... hint: take a look at the front facing camera.

    • BrianLipp

read the article...they say the pictures are of the 1st gen Nexus 7

    • Merri Mogridge

The front facing camera and the sensor beside it look exactly like the ones on the 2012 Neus 7.

Odd. Looks identical to the first Nexus 7 in every single way.

@Sebianoti:disqus, @TurboFool:disqus Just going to put this here:

"Note, the images appear to feature the 1st gen Nexus 7, but this is probably a close approximation of how the new case will look."

Imported a Poetic Slimline for my N7 (2012) and quality is very poor. So much for the price compared to other alternatives (chinese and 3rd party ones).

Magnets fell off, cover closing screen peeled and this was 3rd gen one which I had ordered.

    • Jeffery Keel

Yup, that's exactly it. I'm considering getting a Portenzo case this time.

    • Steve Freeman

I had a similar issue. The plastic seal around the sides was coming off, and there were a couple cracks in the plastic from when I had to take my N7 out of the case a couple times. Then when they sent me a replacement, they asked me to ship the old one back...at my expense...screw that.

To whose who already have a 2013 Nexus 7, what are you using for a case (if you have one)?

    • bozs13

I'd like to know this as well. Thanks!

I'm still looking and its killing me because I don't want destory my baby!

I'm looking for a slim cover with the auto wake, kickstand functionality of some sort, and a hand strap. Just to make sure I don't drop it.

I've found a few but they all seem to be for the nexus 7 2012, and it kind of scares me, because we all know those won't fit.

    • Nathaniel_Graham

Mine is naked at the moment, been looking for a case that functions as a smart cover as well.

    • RyanWhitwam

I have a zip-up sleeve for mine. I don't like the added bulk of a case while I'm using it. I currently use a Roocase, which fits most 7-8 inch tablets.

      • BrianLipp

i think the biggest selling point of these slimline cases is that they really dont add that much tickness or width to the tablet but still protect it. I got them for the 2012 N7 and the N10 and they barely feel different from holding them without a case. The only actual width they add is the magnets on one side to keep the flap closed anyway.

I like my tablet the way I like my phone: Naked.

nakid. as life was meant to be..

Nothing right now, which is kind of annoying. I read in bed before falling asleep, and it's not super comfortable having to read it while it's laying flat on the bed.

  • Andrew Bockus

They're gone now. Just so everyone knows. Sold out for now.

This seems to be dead. The link is now saying $14.95.

I figured out the secret formula! It works if you order it through a mobile browser!

I bought one of these for last years model Nexus 7 and I found it to be a pretty decent case but the quality is definitely not the best. I'd like to see a case maker make a premium, high quality case like this, one that will last.

    Google, you should do this.

    • Wayne Randall

I've had three Poetic cases. All of them start out fitting well and look good. After a few months the signs of wear are obvious. After a year, the case is ready for the recycle bin. Poetic left a foul enough taste that I'll pass on any and all cases from here on. Screen protectors too. All three of my Nexus devices run around nude.

  • MeCampbell30

The product picture isn't even the new Nexus 7.

    • Tony Sarju

Did you even read the article? lol

  • rgaray

I'm waiting for the Ridge case from Devicewear. They said it should be available by the end of August.

  • Bob G

Poetic's quality isn't even above average FYI.

  • [A]dri[A]n

I had a Poetic case for my Nexus 10. Such horrible quality. Feels incredibly flimsy.

  • Samimi

I picked up a Poetic last year for my N7, expecting it to fall apart based on what I'd read, lol. Got it to tide me over while waiting for my Treegloo (http://treegloo.com) case to be built. I'm doing the same thing for my new N7.

  • Riko Gonzalez

I bought one, I've had poetic covers in the past, and have a poetic atmosphere on my n4 and I like it very much it's pretty decent and most definitely bang for buck, stop whining about a $6 cover, also don't expect a $6 cover to have the quality of a $50 cover!

  • William

$.99, and a much better case.

  • Jesslyn Hendrix

Poetic is notorious for releasing cases at basement prices and slowly increasing the price until they get to a point where (I guess) orders drop off.
