In the realm of nerdy Easter Eggs, the Konami Code is a long-time favorite. It shows up in various games and websites, offering a bit of nostalgia each time. Leave it to Google to have a little fun with the Konami Code on Android. Just a few swipes, and you've unlocked a secret achievement in the new Google Play Games app.

In the Google Play Games app, simply swipe the following directions: up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right. The app will then provide you with a button popup to finish up the code with B, A, Start. For your trouble you get an achievement called "All your game are belong to us." This is, of course, a reference to the Sega Mega Drive game Zero Wing. Oh Google, two retro gaming references in one Easter Egg? You spoil us.

The video above provides a nice little demo of the secret code in action. As near as we can tell, it doesn't refill you life or provide extra continues.

    This is so cool!

  • cy_n_ic

If done from the bootloader the konami code will unlock your device, flash a custom recovery AND install a future version of android...from the future.

    • SickoPsycho

I tried it and I get this error... "Not ready reading drive A Abort, Retry, Fail?" What does this mean???!!!1 Did I brick my ROM?

    • JSStaedtler

In all seriousness, on Palm webOS devices, typing the Konami Code verbatim would unlock Developer Mode (the equivalent of rooting an Android device).

    • Kane_Wang

It showed a message "Insert Coin" and a countdown, and when the countdown reached zero my phone automatically shut down and won't boot again. Any idea?

      • LEGIT IT GUY

Have you tried turning it on?

Where does this achievement show up later? i.e. after the pop-up went away.

Also, it would've been better if there was any section in 'My Games' which listed games that support / use this Google Play Games; not every game there is. "All My Games" is completely useless.

    • Justin W

There's a recommended section. That's the best we've got for now though. :(

Edit: The Play Now section shows the games that go with Google Play Games, doesn't it? That or I've only been playing games that are integrated.

      • https://play.google.com/store/apps/developer?id=iWizard Bikram Agarwal

That is more useless in my opinion. :P I'm not looking for new games to buy. I've got playstore > Games for that. I want to see which of the games already installed on my device make use of play games and play those games. Come on, Google. Wassup with all these half baked app releases since IO..!!??

        • Justin W

Idk, but at least they are working on it... There's at least an app for it now, where as before there was... well.. the Play Store?

    • Franco Rossel

The achivement won't show up anywhere, it's not a real achievement, only serves the purpose of easter egg.

I have the same question about 'My Games'

      • Eloy Antunez

I think they depend on us keeping track o games with achievements using just the little green achievements icon below whatever games supports them? i.e. quell reflect or super stickman golf 2? they have that little green icon below with a tracking number ? / ?

    • Benjamin Pavel

I think soon Google+ will be launching Gaming section where we will be able to see what games people in our cicrcles are playing and our achievements. :)

  • tj pur

don't you mean the original contra on NES?

  • Paul

Completing the code just force closes the app on my Xperia Ray.
