No one can keep the Prince of Persia down. The franchise has been around for over two decades, and the original entry was one of gaming's most influential releases. Now the Prince is back on Android in Prince of Persia: The Shadow and the Flame, and this title picks up right where Prince of Persia Classic left off.

This is a full-blown 2.5D platformer with fourteen fully-rendered levels set around five different environments. Like any Prince of Persia game worth its salt, the Shadow and the Flame introduces a new combat system that guides our nimble hero as he faces off with multiple enemies at once. He learns new combos over time and acquires more powerful weapons. Players can choose to play the entire game using gesture-based controls or settling for a virtual joystick.

Considering this is a title popular enough to sell on the weight of its brand alone, it's nice to see Ubisoft take the time to give the Prince an adventure more substantive than another endless runner or Infinity Blade clone. If you just can't get enough of running through the scorching sands of Iran, then this experience can be yours for just $2.99 below.

Bertel King, Jr.
Born and raised in the rural South, Bertel knows what it's like to live without 4G LTE - or 3G, for that matter. The only things he likes sweeter than his tea are his gadgets, and while few objects burn more than a metal phone on a summer day, he prefers them that way anyway.

Typo in the title: "Prince of Person"

    • Jordan Khoviteri-Zadeh

That's no typo. He is in fact the Prince of a specific Person. Nobody else.

Ack, spoiler! I fixed the title. Hopefully no one else catches on.

The release date was slotted for 7/25/2013 for both iOS and Android, but it looks like us Android guys got it first and a day early!

  • Man of Persia

    ha ha
It is Prince of Persia but i am from Persia (Iran) and can not open Android Police with Persian IP because i think Android Police bans them.

When I was a kid I bought the original of this game for 15 bucks. I think 3 for a reworked version with new mechanics and quality is well worth the money.

We need more expensive games! Next year when mobile graphics blow past PS3 and XB360, I would like to see games that aren't just casual wastes of time. I would easily pay $30-$50 for something like Destiny or Titan Fall that could work across my devices.

    • Phoen1x1

3 bucks is expensive for this updated version of the game? Man mobile gamers are so spoiled :)

  • bondx99

    I want warrior within! DAHAKA!!!!!!

IAP are present, but don't seem to be too intrusive (I've only played first two levels though, found 10 health and 2 resurrection vials, that's what you're buying with IAP).
Original game mechanics is preserved - one unlucky jump and you're dead.
The 'improved battle system' means that you can perform three different attacks instead of one, as in original, and that's all, definitely not I.finity Blade clone.

    Controller support?

  • Hank

Really...... IAP & annoying pop ups..!! Damn... I am paying you Ubisoft...Could please keep that shitt out from paid apps at least... >.<
