Google officially unveiled the newest version of Android this morning – Android 4.3 Jelly Bean – and of course the first question is when can I have it?! Good news for current Nexus owners: it's coming today. The current edition Nexuses – 10, 7, and 4 – along with the Galaxy Nexus (GSM is assumed here), will all begin getting the update as of today.

Of course, there's another big question here: when will the Google Play Edition HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S 4 get the update? Unfortunately, there isn't a definitive date on when that will happen, though Hugo Barra said "soon" in today's press event. We'll just have to wait and see exactly what that means.

So, what are you waiting for? Time to start mashing that "Check Update" button!

    I'm mashing, I'm mashing. Nothing yet. :(

    • Jdban

Mashing won't do anything unless you're clearing a cache (I forget which)

      • http://turbofool.com Jarrett Lennon Kaufman

That doesn't make sense, since it's clearly connecting to the network and checking data.

        • Sorian
          • Giovanni Stoto

            OTA images?

          • Matti

Hmmm why I am not seeing file for Nexus 7 3G "Tilapia"?

          • http://turbofool.com Jarrett Lennon Kaufman

Found them, thanks. Now to see if I can find a way to use them to update without wiping my data...

      • Makoute

yeah, come on, remember for us.

      • Wylan

Its the Googles Services Framework, you want to force stop it then delete its data not clear its cache. Perform a *#*#checkin#*#* from the dialer and it should see the update, if not then go into the software updates in the about screen and it will. Heads up it will probably boink the google account settings on your phone so you will have to remove and readd your account.

        • ibrahim52

*#*#2432546#*#* is the code to CHECKIN but i checked there is no OTA pushed yet i guess

          • Wylan

Yea, checkin = 2432546 on a dialpad. ;) But yea i just checked again too and nothing...hopefully tomorrow morning i guess.

          • ibrahim52

I am sure you must have got updated with 4.3 already for now.

          • Wylan

Got tired of waiting and sideloaded it once the URL got posted for the update. You?

          • ibrahim52

I couldn't wait from the day one and in 24 hours did the OTA through sideload and then after one week when I didn't see much improvement on battery life. I took the backup carefully and did the factory restore and also root. Its smooth now.

    Server meltdown in 3...2...

    • Michael Ta

Boom. Severs caught fire and exploded. Luckily Aquaman saved the day by his spits. Now google needs to ask Freezer to keep the severs cool when they announce 5.0/KLP.

I'm not really funny am i..?

      • Frekko

        no you are not

        • Michael Ta

          :( i tried..

          • Frekko

try harder nxt time Ta ! (Y)

  • Votlin

Can you get the update even if you are not in a country where the Nexus 4 isn't officially sold ? Thanks :))

    • Sorian

Sounds like you would have to get the system files for Google factory images (4.3 up now).
      https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images

    • gh0st

yes you can get the facory images here, and remember to backup everything before update . . . .

      https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images

      • Votlin

Thanks, how do we update with the images ?

        • gh0st

->download the tar files extract them, there will be a batch file(*.bat), (assuming you use windows PC).

          -> Backup everything

-> connect phone in fastboot mode

->Run the batch file from the command prompt.

          • Votlin

            Thank you!

          • Votlin

            I'm on a mac :p

      • Giovanni Stoto

but if u update with bin img u lose everything rite?

        • gh0st

yes all your files including your sd card partitions

          • Giovanni Stoto

ok so gotta wait 4 an OTA img, cos I hace custom recovery and pushed OTA wont work

  • Eddie Rodriguez

when you say galaxy nexus does that include the verizon black sheep one :?

    • Michael Pahl

      no.

    • Adam Truelove

Nope. You'll have to wait another 6 months, if it ever gets it.

  • Christopher Bement

So happy I'm on toro.... :

  • Andrew

This is the only time when I'm sad to be running a custom ROM. :(

    • armshouse

i just unrooted and went back to stock for it! I want that 0.1 version upgrade!

  • Zuko

"Factory Images "occam" for Nexus 4"
    occam ?

    • sup

      Codename.

      • Zuko

        but, previously was mako?

        • io53

Phone is Mako, software is Occam.

          • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Cameron Summerson

Actually, Mako is the system board, and the device is Occam.

          • http://the-jade-domain.com Jaime J. Denizard

As someone thread in one of the other comment threads: Nexus 4 + new Nexus 7 = Occam's Razor

  • reEngineer

He said actually 'very soon'. But I guess 'soon' is a more precise word for it. I'll still be clicking the update button daily on my HTC One GE, you never know.

  • io53

'very soon', now 'soon'. Let's hope he delivers. The "Check new" button on my HTC One GE will be broken before the update arrives.

  • Jeffrey Smith

I noticed the recent leak for the GS4 was still on OpenGL ES 2, so I guess that's one of the things left to finish.

    • Björn Lundén

Qualcommm have provided working OpenGL ES 3 drivers for their SoCs for months now. The downside with those drivers were that the performance in other areas was much worse.

  • Adam Truelove

    I hate you Verizon.

  • NexusKoolaid

I've been toying with the idea of picking up a Google Edition handset. The speed at which they get this update will heavily influence my decision.

  • ProductFRED

The first test of the Google Edition devices.

    • Mike Reid

      Tick, tick,...

I think Samsung will clock HTC in this race.

  • Saad Salman Malik

I have a Galaxy Nexus (takju) in Pakistan. I haven't got an OTA update yet. Shouldn't I have got it right away?

    • Björn Lundén

No, they roll out gradually, just like every other time.

  • Votlin

How do you update from a mac ? do you need to too the device ?
    thanks :)

  • William Donald Morton

Does 4.3 include AVRCP 1.3 for Bluetooth?

    • http://turbofool.com Jarrett Lennon Kaufman

      Yes.

  • xnifex

Will this update all of the google apps to? if so, I hope I can revert youtube & google talk after the fact.

  • Gary Stover Jr

I hope my 4G Samsung Galaxy Nexus update comes out today! Can Verizon possibly slow down this update for us?

    • Floris

They can and they probably will. DROID DOES.

      • Gary Stover Jr

        Ugh, I was so excited!

    • Robert Boluyt

      2015, Q2.

  • Piyush

What OG 7 means in the Title? is it there by mistake?

    • http://the-jade-domain.com Jaime J. Denizard

Original Gangster. As in the original/old Nexus 7 (Mako/Occam)

  • Nicholas Snowdeal

Don't hold your breath for Verizon rolling this out to the Galaxy Nexus anytime soon. Glad I am rooted.

  • Brian P.

Are they considering the Verizon Galaxy Nexus and actual Nexus to receive 4.3 ota?

    • Björn Lundén

No, probably not. Those get the update from Verizon, not Google if I remember correctly.

  • Jon Snow

That's why I bought Galaxy Nexus and not any other phone at the time! Being part of the updates = win! Now to play the waiting game...

  • wirelessmodz

Do I need to unroot to get update ? I checked and nothing for me yet but I forgot I rooted when I went back to stock in march.
