Guys, we have good news for those who know how to read: Google Play Books is now available in a slew of new regions.

  • Denmark
  • Czech Republic
  • Finland
  • Greece
  • Hungary
  • Netherlands
  • Poland
  • Romania
  • Update: we've confirmed Sweden too (thanks, Andre!)

So, what does this mean? It means that residents of the aforementioned countries can now purchase and read Play Books from the Play Store. That brings the total number of countries where Books is available to 26 – more than any other Play service (Movies, Music, etc.).

If you've ever been curious as to what Books may look like in other countries, you're in luck. Here are a bunch of screenshots that show just that!

Czech Republic

2 3 3[5]

Finland, Hungary, and Netherlands

1[10] 3[8]

Update: And here's Sweden

Now go, you silly bookworms. Read all the words you can handle.

  • Thomas

One step closer to music, movies and devices :)

  • Lector

Google Books would be great for me.. *sigh* If only I knew how to read.

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Cameron Summerson

      Thank you for this.

  • Daniel Söderström

    And Sweden!

  • Obviously not Google employee

    Come on Google! Moar!!

  • Marius Kisielius

Ahhh Poland so close yet so far... Want to get google books in lithuania :/

    • Krisztián Kelemen

it's even more fun here in Slovakia, almost all neighbours got it :D

      • Peter Bognar

It makes no sense, really. If they don't offer native language content, only English, why not open it up for all EU countries? Weird...

        • Krisztián Kelemen

          licensing issues i suppose

  • David Berta

Great! But WHY these books are in English in Hungary??? :

    • András Csaba Szűcs

Finally! Someone who asks the same!

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

Same in Poland. Or were my screenshots wrong? What does it show for you?

      • David Berta

It show the same as the screenshots. But I want to read Hungarian books in Hungary and not English language books. And they are very-very expensive! Don't make too much sense.

        • Zhelyazko Atanasov

Maybe they've just launched it in these countries and there are no contracts with local publishers yet? Does anybody know what is the situation in Germany, France... do they have books in the local language? If they do, I guess that later you'll see books in your native language as well.

          • Nasko Hristov

Of course there are some books, but the majority of them are in English, but still this doesn't mean that they can sell it freely, it is contracts and it is not so easy, but it is not so complicated, but in these contries it is not very likely people to buy books like hell.

  • Mehmet Fatih

    Turkey please :(

  • yahyoh

Google Y U NO learn from Apple how to really support all the countries with all Store services yeah it maybe will take another 10-20 years :(
meanwhile i'm stuck with pirated apps
    thank u GOOGLE

  • Sten Tony Hansen

Norway, please! It's just 1 centimeter away from Finland and a boattrip from Denmark.

  • Bruny07

Anyone know why I can't open free samples in the browser? I tried a few books but I keep getting "This book cannot be opened". On my device I can open them but in Chrome I keep getting errors.

    • Huton Gergö

      same here

  • Leo Kanellopoulos

i am really start to like this! we got navigation in Greece and now this! its been a good third quarter!

  • Huton Gergö

    Finally :D

  • zhelyazko

No way... Romania is there, Greece is there and my country - Bulgaria, which is between the two, is not. :( Maybe we are Bad Luck Bryan.

    • Nasko Hristov

They often don't write the countries together so keep an eye on the play store and cross fingers. Дано.

  • Ivaylo Stoyanov

    Now seriously, what about Bulgaria?

    • Nasko Hristov

I really hope later today, please please.

      • Zhelyazko Atanasov

I wish we would get it but... come on. Romania is like Bulgaria with larger population =) Why did Google leave us out of the game...

        • Nasko Hristov

Because of the larger population :D, the fact that they are making it available in Romania means that we are next...and more important they are working on it..

          • Zhelyazko Atanasov

That was my first thought in the morning when I first saw this article. On the other hand the fact that Sweden has Play Books and Sweden is not in the official list (see the Source at the bottom of the article) gives me some hope.

          • Nasko Hristov

            Same here...:D

  • Fredrik Andersson

So exactly why is Norway left out of the nordic region?

    • Bjajjull

      Because you have oil.

  • René Simonsen

Woah - most of the danish books are quite expensive! They're at like 26-35 USD each..

  • Sebastian Lundgren

  • blacqueguy

still no south africa... sucks a*s

  • Paweł Gładysz

Finally! There are only Music, Movies and Wallet services to wait for. Small yet Great step ahead.

  • Magnus Skaanevik

    Why not Norway? ffs

  • Jörgen Pettersson

Finally available in Sweden, but why do I only see English books?

    • Mark Nemeth

Maybe we have to wait for our local publishers to seize this opportunity.

    • blunden

While you wait, you can upload ebooks you have bought from other sources to Play books so at least you can try the reading experience etc.

      • Nasko Hristov

Yes, but we have to use proxy, and I have another acc only for that, once it is available I will delete it.

  • Peter Bognar

No native content though, this doesn't make it a really big change for most people in these countries. Yes, us geeks can happily read English, but the average Gábor here in Hungary would want Hungarian language books. I hope a deal is in the pocket of the guys at Google, it would really be a blast.

  • Pascal

Slovakia nothing again. But it was close this time :D.

  • Mark Nemeth

Yesterday I was searching for something and play books offers did pop up but I encountered an error. Today play books is available :)
Today morning i was searching for stuff on the store and it also gave some music options...maybe tomorrow we will have play music as well :D

    ROMANIA FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Nasko Hristov

I just hope that Google will think about Bulgaria too at some time in near future. I want to ask someone to take a snapshot of the home page on Android app, please.

  • Jairo Duque

    Colombia, please!

  • Roman Ševčík

Czech, Poland, Hungary...but why the fuck no Slovakia?

    • G

Maybe Google used a 10 year old map, where was no country named Slovakia.

      • Nasko Hristov

Haha very funny : |, but obviously not, because Books are available in Romania and Greece but not in Bulgaria.

    • LiiIiikEaBau5

DUDE, take i easy! Google forgot Norway too!

      • Paul Morten

Don't worry, with Norways legal book cartel we'll probably never get it.

  • Nasko Hristov

They haven't aded Sweden yet, I hope more contries pop up...

  • LiiIiikEaBau5

Do you know why Google did not add Norway? . Because everything is expensive in this f**ck**g country!

    • Nasko Hristov

They will add it at some point, once they got to your neighbours nothing can stop them, except law...

  • Me myself and I

    Quite expensive in Romania.

    • Nasko Hristov

How much, I mean can you compare 3-4 books original vs ebooks?
