If you want to listen to an audiobook, Audible is the number one source. Though, the app was never great on Android. It wasn't terrible, but it didn't have a strong Android aesthetic and the layout was strange. With the version 1.5 update, that's a thing of the past. The app looks excellent now, and there are other improvements too.

The new UI is still a dark affair, like the old one. The colors are distinctly Audible, which is actually a nice look. It's also got a fair bit of Holo (#YOLO) going on. Here's the full changelog:

  • Beautiful new design
  • Improved navigation
  • Simplified library management
  • Chapter-level progress bar in the player
  • Improved stability and performance

Audible's app is free – the books not so much. It will cost you a few bucks to subscribe and you get a set umber of titles each month. Or you can buy books outright, but they're pricey. Check out some screens of the old UI below to compare.

    wow this is very beautiful.

I know it is off topic but I am gonna say it nonetheless

If audible can come up with this huge change and come up with a very beautiful design, why can't the guys at facebook do it?

Their app is one of the ugliest and slowest apps on the market.

Facebook don't care as long as they overengineer it

Much improved. I love Audible, but every time I opened the app to do something I cringed at the UI. It was just terrible in the old version. Very nice to see an update for it.

Awesome update. It looks much better than the iOS version even.

Great update! But why did it wipe all of my previously downloaded books - forcing me to re-download them?

    • wolfkabal

Think I solved it - I can't find where to change the storage location within the settings (pretty sure it was there before), as I choose to store it on the SD Card. So I manually edited the '/data/data/com.audible.application/shared_prefs/com.audible.application_preferences.xml' file to fix this 'download_folder' setting. I think the app does auto-scanning for an SD card to store to but because my GS3 has sdcard0 and extSdCard I think it gets confused. Eitherway, I made sure it was adjusted and everything is back to normal (for me).

I love Audible. it's the only thing that keeps me sane on my 2 hour commute through Houston traffic to work each day.

So some Android kids were quoting yesterday about iOS control center app, and today they didn't notice this line?

"Though, the app was never great on Android. It wasn't terrible".

    Love AP though.
