To go along with the release of the long-awaited Google Maps update yesterday, Mountain View has just updated the list of countries with full Google Navigation support. There are 18 confirmed new countries, and two that went from limited to full coverage.

Here is the list of new countries for navigation confirmed by Google:

  • Cameroon
  • Costa Rica
  • Dominican Republic
  • Ecuador
  • Ethiopia
  • Guatemala
  • Indonesia
  • Malaysia
  • Nigeria
  • Oman
  • Peru
  • Philippines
  • Rwanda
  • Slovenia
  • Taiwan (Google added it after our post went live)
  • Thailand
  • Uganda
  • Uruguay
  • Venezuela

Expansion of Navigation from limited coverage to full in the following:

  • Algeria
  • Bahrain

This is the biggest one-time expansion of Google Navigation, and it might not even be over yet. Users are also saying El Salvador and Chile are now live too. We'll update if we can confirm any more locations.

    What about Puerto Rico???

    • Nick Foti

I just returned from PR and was super surprised that navigation was not available. I'm sure it's a matter of time...

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

      Not yet.

      • drodzand

I just tried it out and it seems to be working in Puerto Rico. It showed me the starting point of my route whereas before it would tell me it wasn't available here. I can't say that it will work as I drive since I'm still working in my office though :-(

But it seems like it works!

        • jose33

Puerto Rico does not work, what works is preview

          • drodzand

Yeah, sucks. I still don't understand why they don't offer the service here. At least we can open the Navigation app now!

          • drodzand

Navigation worked for me the other day. I activated it via Google Now and it gave me turn by turn directions during my trip. It didn't give my spoken directions though. Now it just force closes again...super weird.

  • Karlo

    What about Croatia?

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

If it doesn't work, then it's not live.

    • blabla3322

exactly , we are still waiting in Croatia ! i guess Google-Croatia are not doing anything to make it happen...

  • Idon’t Know

Android is finally getting the Google Maps features iPhone users have had since December. Which tells you where the money is.

    • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

-_- you no idea what you're talking about.

    • Ryuuie

If anything, it tells us that Google regards iOS as nothing more than a beta testing system. When they're sure it won't break things, they bring it to Android and improve it even more.

Also, they felt sorry for Apple Maps users, but that's not saying much...I think the entire world feels for Apple Maps users. :v

    Rockin' in The Philippines

    not for me

  • guest

    I have a S3 and it doesnt...

    • amirulmazmi

Finally! I can't wait to try it out.

    • Julian Ooi

      Finally we get it!

    • aruna sena

After three effing years, finally navigation. Now bring on Play Books and Movies and Music

  • AB07

No Turkey yet?? Is this is a joke?? How is it that my gf's iPhone 5 maps has navigation and the updated Google maps on my HTC One doesn't?? In Turkey... The gateway country between Europe and the Middle East. It seems that every country apart from Turkey is getting the navigation. U guys are a joke!!!

    • Mastermind26

and by "U guys" you mean Android Police, HTC, Apple????

      • AB07

Well i suppose as it is Google Maps than i am referring to Google!!!!!

        • Mastermind26

I seriously doubt "Google" reads these comments.

          • EH

Someone of the Google Maps team could read this I think

          • Mastermind26

            "COULD"

          • Hey you

It's not Google's fault. They must have a permission from "General Command of Mapping of Turkey" for navigation and thanks to the Cyprus issue they can't. Don't blame Google.

          • John Doe

What has the Cyprus issue got to do with mainland Turkey? They should be treated as two distinct territories. By which I mean the Cyprus issue should only affect Cyprus.

  • RodrigoChang

    Chile have Navigation Too.

    • me

Doesn't work for me. I don't have the update from google play and when I side load (even the new 7.0.1) I don't get turn by turn navigation. I have an s3 with 4.1.2.

      • RodrigoChang

Only works from Google now and I don't know if 4.1.2 is supported

    • Meloku

How do you get Navigation to work? I get a GPS Navigation icon that looks like the old Navigation one, but it sends me to the "Get Directions" (the "¿Cómo llegar?" option) that Maps always had and that always worked.

      • RodrigoChang

Work from google now, I say navigate to Santiago (I'm from Viña del mar) and runs navigation after I try with other Direction and works too

    • Federico Cortés

Really? Because it doesn't work for me at least and I'm from Santiago (My phone has android 4.1.2)

    • Juan Roberto Honorato Rojas

I have a Nexus 4 with the official maps 7.0.1 but Navigation is not working. I have tried all the possible steps to get to the app, including the google now command but the app refuses to work.

How is it possible that for only some people the app works?
And how come we have street view AND real time traffic but not navigation!?
It pisses me off like hell!!

  • Mastermind26

To quote Jim Carrey: "Viva El Salvador!"
    :P

  • josuearisty

    Great for Latin America!
    Dominican Republic, good to go.

  • Mateo

    Thanks from an Uruguayan S4!

  • Geek Life RD

I save hundreds in gas today, thanks google!!

  • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

You sure you're talking about Navigation? Wonder why it would work for you and not others.

Also just to make sure, did everyone here get the new 7.0.0 update first?

    • me

I didn't. An side loading does not give me navigation either. S3 4.1.2

  • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

Google just added Taiwan to the list.

  • Kui Jie

As a Malaysian, this is great news! Hope the offline maps will be available soon.

    • Mahar

offline already available in indonesia, i think malaysia too

      • Kui Jie

No it's not available. I've just tried it. Are you sure it's available in Indonesia? I tried to cache an area around Jakarta, it didn't work either. With the old version if I zoom in and out and play around with the square cache box, sometime I could get to to cache, but with the latest version the "ok maps" simply refuses to work.

  • Henron Man

    Finally. Indonesia.

    • http://wheeqo.web.id R. Bambang Widiatmoko

  • estebanp4

  • Sugih Cah

    Indonesia! Finally! Thank you!

  • cristian donose

    Not yet in Vietnam...

  • Ed

Still don't understand why Chile has Streetview but not Navigation.

  • Joza Kroner

    ah still no croatia :(

  • AWH

    Oh YESSS!!
Even Ethiopia is in the list.

  • Ziya Kokarağaç

    Please add Turkey :-(

  • http://zordan.iz.rs/ Nikola Zornić

Looks like it works in Serbia, too. :)

  • GOGOI DANUT

    What about ROMANIA? :(

    • cristian donose

Navigatia in romania merge inca din 2011...

  • met

I have it in Republic of Kosovo too... Awsome

  • matej1990

Jup, GMaps Navigation works in Slovenia! And Google has started taking photos for Street View to! Finally some Google progress in Slovenia...

    • Benjamin Pavel

Finally we received some love from Google!
At least now i can ditch all other map apps. =)

  • Stanster

    What about Germany??

  • Rolf

In the new Navigation, is there a way to just use the map while driving without entering a destination - as it was before by tapping on "Map"?

  • MiroUser

    It's working in Serbia too!

  • aprilius20

Too bad it seems like changing the system language doesn't change the navigation voice (English male). On a side note, Wakamoto Norio giving directions would be awesome:(

  • Noquieroponerunnombre

    Uruguay noma!

  • nixd

With this update I also lost my "location reporting" ability, reportedly due to "region". And now this...

It's getting more and more difficult to be a Google/Android fan in Turkey these days.. =/

  • Meloku

Chilean here. I can now use the GPS Navigation icon, but it sends me to the "Get Directions" feature. Since that one actually worked fine on the old Maps (I have a phone with Android 2.3 without the latest Maps version, and an N7 with the up-to-date Maps app), I can't really tell if we really got the Navigation feature or if it were replaced by the "Get Directions" option.

    • RodrigoChang

We have the function but only if command on Google now on the Maps app not run

  • nad

And why is Tunisia still missing ?!

  • Federico Cortés

It doesn't work on my S3 Mini

  • ducherry

location sharing setting is not available for Malaysia :(

  • DJ Mustachio

Puerto Rico?? It's part of the US for christ's sake

  • Juan Flores

Chile is not in google navigation, we just can see the route and a preview, but not full nav.

  • J

    What about Trinidad and Tobago?

  • Edup Music Prodigy

This is a joke still no puerto rico!! Thanks god we are US Territory ( Sarcasm fully intended)
