If you're in the market for a new phone on AT&T, the time to buy is now. The company is running a promotion that knocks 50 percent off of all smartphones – including top-tier handsets like the Galaxy S4/Active or HTC One. To make this deal even more enticing, all activation fees are also getting waived through the end of the month. That's a hell of a deal.

Here's how it works: you select the device you want, add it to the cart, and go through the normal motions of selecting your plan (or upgrading your line if you're already an AT&T customer). The discount is applied to the phone in the cart just before you check out. And that's pretty much it – you just scored your new phone at half price.

But here's where things get interesting. This deal is good for both one- and two-year agreements, so you can essentially pay just a bit more than the normal two-year contract price and only be locked in for one year. Or, you can sign up for two years, and get your phone dirt cheap. Either way you go, this is a killer deal. It's over on June 30th, so the time for choosing is now.

Head below to get started.

One year contracts? Ok that's intriguing. I didn't think anyone did these anymore.

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

Indeed. $225 + tax on a Galaxy S4 Active with a 1-year contract is something I'm thinking of jumping on for my wife. I don't know if I'll be cool with AT&T for 2 years, but I'm pretty sure I will be for 1.

      Waived activation is awesome too.

      • http://www.facebook.com/lucyparanormal Daniel Tiberius

Yeah we still have 8 months left on our contract or I'd be doing a one year contract for my fiance and I. Maybe get Htc One's or S4s.

    • Judith Johnson

what Philip said I'm in shock that any body able to make $9958 in four weeks on the internet. have you seen this website www.KEP2.com

  • Michael Ferrari

This article needs clarification... Does this deal require you to trade in an old smart phone? I'm calling customer service and they are saying it does.

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

There's no clarification needed as there's no trade-in required as far as I can tell.

I just went and tried to order an S4 Active. This is the final order screen, with no mention of any trade-ins: http://i.imgur.com/0NO51kc.png

      • Adam Roycraft

Just ordered on Friday and didn't get this discount. It was an upgrade. The phone will be here tomorrow :/

    • http://www.facebook.com/lucyparanormal Daniel Tiberius

I went through it on the website and it didn't say anything about that. Plus it's over the mail so I doubt they're gonna have you mail in a phone.

    • Psychoholic

Yeah umm your wrong no trade in fool...

      • shane

If people would read they would see the tradein program is for in store purchasing only. Online gets the 50% discount straight up.

  • Naquadria

Looks like this works on the month-to-month as well.

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

That's crazy. Half off full price? I'll take 10.

      • Naquadria

Should probably have someone else confirm it. But it says 50% off for me, with month-to-month selected.

        • Pete Teoh

Didn't work for me. It showed me the full price on month-to-month.

          • Pete Teoh

I take that back. It didn't work on the 64GB HTC One, but it worked for the 32GB.

          • Naquadria

Ah right. I should have specified which phone I was testing. My bad. Odd though, that it would work on the 32GB HTC One, but not the 64GB.

          • Pete Teoh

            So did you get one?

        • Jordan

Confirmed. I placed an order. Whether they'll end up closing it or not is a different story. An S4 came to $325.01 WITHOUT a contract(month to month).

Sweet jesus I hope this works.

          • superduty

I have had no success trying to get it to work. I am a premiere customer, which over the years seems to mean the ATT www site never works correctly for me. I just tried customer service with no luck. They just say "sorry, we can't offer the online deals". FWIW, I tried to do it with 1 yr commitment on an S4 Active.

          • Jimmy

Me too 'there is anyone that success to do it M2M as a premiere.
it is posioble to do it as a new coustumer you got the 50% off but you must to add a plan/data ....??!!!!

My wife's contract with Sprint expires 2 weeks after the promo is over. Any idea how to swing this online if I am interested in a 1-year deal for her and want to port her number?

    • Donatom3

Couldn't you order one now with a new number then when your Sprint contract is up have AT&T port the number at that time.

      • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

That's what I am wondering. Is that an easy feat?

        • Andrew Black

Yeah that's not a problem. I've seen people do it/I've done it myself. It's just a normal port.

  • Christopher Robert

Can I get 50% off a non contract phone?

  • jmjf

As the fine print in the screen shot notes, it only works for phones that are under $200 (on a 2-year contract). But it will work regardless of whether you get a 2-yr, 1-yr, or mo-to-mo contract. So the higher end phones (S4 32GB, 64GB HTC One, etc.) are not included in the promo, even though you can get the lower-end phones that would sell for more (1-yr, mo-to-mo).

  • Guest

Doesn't seem to be working for upgrades.

    • Jordan

Same for me. Was going to upgrade a line not currently under contract.

    • OmegaWrex

I called AT&T and spoke with a manager because it wouldn't apply to my upgrade. They just gave me the 64gb HTC One for $99, overnight shipping, and waived the activation fee... I was shocked

  • Michael Palmieri

You can do s4 plus note 8 and it comes to $275.

  • jeffmd

mmm... the M2M on an active s4 is under $300.. this makes it a steal when you consider pre paids are starting to offer the s3 at ~$400. The $69 a month minimum (300meg addon is useless) is a little higher then I would like to pay though. Could use some info on luckly getting the phone onto a better pre pay plan.

  • Mike Loomis

You have no idea how fortuitous the timing is with this news. My wife almost pulled the trigger on an S4 Active at an AT&T store last night!

  • Geoff Johnson

Figures, I just got a new S4 Active yesterday... When I was there I saw the signs for the 50% off most phones, but you had to trade in a phone 3 years old or newer. It looks like this could be the same deal judging from the screenshots.

  • http://www.yepi2.co/ yepi

    very great! information number

  • Brian J. Cohen

Anything stopping me from getting one of these on a month-to-month, and then after the first month canceling the contract and bring the phone over to a pre-paid GoPhone plan?

    • jason

Yes, changing a post paid account to a prepaid one is subject to early term fees and possibly equipment fees. You would end up paying as much maybe more then full cost for the phone.

      • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

Why would a month to month account have an early termination fee?

  • agr1277

I don't have an option for in store pick up through the AT&T website. I went to an AT&T store for an S4 16GB and the 50% deal does not show up on their system for month-to-month service plan. I would have had to pay full price for the S4 16GB. I was told that the store can not match AT&T's website price. They have to go by what is in their system. I ordered one online and we'll see if it is shipped or if the order will be cancelled due to the 50% off with a month-to-month service plan being a glitch.
