Google's official Search app (aka Google Now) for Android has been updated with a few new features, though they're pretty awesome ones. First, voice reminders are finally live - you can now say, for example, "remind me to buy milk this evening" or "remind me to take out the trash when I get home." I think we can all agree that's kind of amazing.

The second new feature is suggested content, in the form of upcoming books, music, TV, and video games you might be interested in. Presumably, this is based on your email and search history. Finally, real-time public transit updates are coming for select cities. Nice! Some of these features - like reminders - don't actually seem to be working yet, so hold tight if you're not seeing them. The official Now card list has been updated accordingly.

Here's the full changelog:

For Android 4.1+ (Jelly Bean):
- Reminders (e.g. say "remind me to buy milk this evening", "remind me to take out the trash when I get home")
- Upcoming books, music albums, tv shows and video games you may like
- Real time public transit updates (select cities)
- Last train home (Japan only)

    • Merri Mogridge

I just realized that it needed to update and WOW!!! I love this so much!!

I've tried the reminders and they work really well. I'm still not taking the trash out tonight though. It's why I have a wife.

I haven't been able to use Google Now since the update in early April, updated just now, still broken Google Now on a stock Gnex.
Oh well, the other products work well, Google Now is still a wash.

Same here. I got my Nexus 4 last week, and after enabling Google Now, refuses to work. Crashes constantly.

      • Brad Aanderud

Did you try uninstalling Google search and re-installing it? I had a problem where it would not speak when I searched. Doing this fixed my issue.

        • RichA

          Tried that, didn't work

        • http://loneplacebo.com/ Tony Hue

Working now for me after updating Google Search with today's new version. So far so good.

  • Matthias

Does anyone know if some of those things, especially the reminders, work in languages other than English?

Unfortunately, the German version even has lost some features in the last months... :(

Before, it was actually reading answers to questions aloud, now it only shows the answer without speech.

I hope they get this right some time... :/

tested the reminder in spanish and it work ok

    • squiddy20

It might have just been a checkbox that was unchecked. From the main screen of Google Now/Search, go to Settings>Voice and make sure "Speech output" is set to "Always".

      • Matthias

Tried that, the setting is already correct, and changing it doesn't seem to do anything. Thanks for the hint anyway.

        • Freddy

geht leider nicht in deutschland... bzw nicht auf deutsch.

is there a way to set the phone to US (so that voice works) but keep the 24 clock and time zones and stuff?

  • jacob

does anyone have an .apk? i have a different DPI and my play store is... disadvantanged.

  • quantumsuicide

Updating to the latest version of Google Now seems to have broken Google Location services on my phone. Despite it being enabled, Google Now refuses to work because it says Location services is disabled.

  • Rob

Anyone know how to get smartphone to stop giving those "Time to Work" or "Time to Home" updates? I lost my job and updated it in Maps (e.g. I deleted the saved "work" place) but the phone has yet to recognize that update and it's been days since I did the update. (oO)

I suppose I could turn those updates off, but I was trying to avoid that.

    • FrillArtist

Exactly. It won't let me delete my work address anymore. I work from home so I don't need a work card constantly appearing. I just want to delete it for good!!!

  • Freddy

thats cool and all. i i got the update. but voice doesnt even work in germany...

  • Emre Isik

It seems that search by camera was removed can't find it.

  • Matthew Fry

Voice through bluetooth doesn't work now. Completely broken.
