Facebook Home has arrived, and whether we like it or not, it's here to stay. The 2.5/5.0 rating at the close of the day isn't exactly inspiring, but it's likely a knee-jerk reaction from Facebook haters, which I am confident will go up to somewhere in the 3.X range with further improvements. Cameron addressed the current state of Home pretty well earlier today, so now that the dust has settled, it's time for a fun video to finish off the work week, both for Facebook employees who worked on the product and us, its potential (but unlikely) users.

I'll be honest - I haven't liked a launch video this much in a while. Partly because The Zuck, who I admire quite a bit, engages in a screaming match with a goat in the first 15 seconds (if you don't get the reference, and even if you do, you have to watch this video, which is undoubtedly the best in the series). It's just really well-made. I've maaah'ed too much already - without further ado:

Dear Android Police readership: Continue firing everything you have against the Fecesbook Home's app rating and 1-star them back to the stone-age.

Also, only Cameron would like this video, due to his random but endearing love of goats.

  • anywherehome

So what does it do except stealing and selling my personal data?

    • http://twitter.com/kremese the candy man can

And you are asking this while using an OS from an advertising company??

      • cowgar

well the OS is completely open-source and it's not stealing your personal data unless you want to...or unless you are not using spyware companies like say HTC and their Sense suit (you would be surprised, just hit wireshark or read some stories)

so install 3rd party ROM (again, open source) and switch off GPS services if you are too paranoid. Hopefully I don't need to bring kids stuff here that using Chrome hurts your cat, even on your Desktop - many ppl prefer Firefox anyway.

And for being a google+ addict? Well, sadly that's all your fault isn't it? Nobody is forcing you to use advertising google apps - but the OS is as clean as it can be mate - yet you have no idea what iOS/WP is doing under the hood - or HTC/Samsung with their own customizations (my 3 year old HTC Desire Z was doing real wonders of 'spying' on me despite disabling almost everything - sadly found out after I exchanged it - for another HTC and their services in background - the same day it was wiped and cyanogenraped)

        • http://twitter.com/kremese the candy man can

you have no idea what you are talking about

      • anywherehome

Google doesn't sell raw data ;-)

  • Richard Yarrell

Personally i like the overall interactive experience. It shows me the things i need to see that normally i would've missed because I didn't open up the actual application. The chat heads are great something very innovative definitely. People could hate all they want but Google Plus and Twitter should take some notes. Matter of fact all those STALE LAUNCHERS on the market need to take notice also.

  • http://www.kizi2.com/ kizi 2

okay. I used to feel like home facebook. I find it very handy and useful.

  • http://www.facebook.com/benjamin.pavel Benjamin Pavel

I like the idea of Facebook home but seriously you can't make a folder in that Launcher ?
Instead of making Facebook Home a launcher they should just make it as a Lockscreen app to check the feed.

    • yahyoh

u can already check the feed in TW :D

      • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

But it sucks and not nearly as pretty.

        • yahyoh

so u think facebook home pretty ?? for real dude!! O_o

its simply killing all Android experience : it doesn't have any customization - Widgets - home screen - etc...

and i don't want to see my friends posts every time i turn on my screen -_-

          • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

I think it's pretty, yes. Very pretty. I tried it and I don't want to use it, but if you're into Facebook and live in the Facebook world 24/7, it's probably something that you'll want once it's a bit more feature-rich.

I agree, it's not very usable for power users, like us, but that has nothing to do with whether it's pretty or not.

I'm honestly not trying to be semantical, but I would consider it polished – not pretty.

    • ElfirBFG

I have Facebook Home as my lockscreen and Nova as my launcher.

      • bse88

        • ElfirBFG

Turn off your lock screen, enable Facebook Home, when it asks which launcher to use check the 'always' box next to Nova.

I appreciate all the work you most likely did on this which i'm very affected

  • Swapnil Chitnis

I might sound crazy but I actually like Facebook home. I just used it today and it was so amazing to use. The smooth animations and the UI playfulness were a joy. I don't have a Facebook account (I tried my brother's account on the launcher) but I seriously thought of making an account again just because of that launcher. I wish we had something like that with integrated experience with all social networks.

I'm not saying it's a perfect launcher (lack of widgets and folders is such a shame) but it was fun to use.

    • http://twitter.com/Mo3tasm Mo3tasm

you're not crazy dude.. it is something...

  • Matt Sokolinski

Facebook home - beautiful full screen... Adverts you cannot remove. Coming soon to your phone

  • Tony

Am I the only one wishing they would have kept interrupting him with that goat until zuckerburg started wrestling or something?

  • Mouhammad Al-hajji

    I don't like it

  • JonJJon

I'm never going to use or install Facebook Home but I am interested in how they are going to gradually introduce their adverts and "sponsored" feature/posts. I expect them to do it in a way that very subtly introduces small amounts at first building up on it until there is a lot of them but due to the habituation of it, people will have gotten used to it so much so that they can overload you with adverts and sponsored content without actually overloading the user.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000453956967 Sabin Bajracharya

Ya its true. There's A facebook messenger patch with chat head working at XDA but I found it quiet buggy and theres no sms option.

    • dobbsy

I installed the APK for Home ('cause I'm in Canada) after updating Messenger and the FB app through Play. I didn't care for home so deleted it.

However, the chatheads thing stayed around with SMS as well.

  • Owen Finn

Can Facebook crash already? Like, lose total and utter relevance like MySpace did?

    • xnifex

what would you have it replace with?

      • jedivulcan

        Real life.

        • Eddie

          That ship has sailed.

  • Shawn Suther

I didnt want to like that. really. but i did. huh.

  • navjot

I don't understand the hate for Facebook home (not talking about this article, but the comments here and in other places). Facebook is doing something different - would you rather have had Facebook fork Android like Amazon did? This is a new idea and highlights the open-ness of Android; it's a good thing. Personally I don't want Facebook being on my home screen and would never use this, but doing things like calling for the mass 1-starring of the app just makes Android look unappealing for devs that want to try something new.

    dat goat.

  • GraveUypo

so, is it so hard for people that don't like facebook not to install this?
i mean, i would never use it, but how is it a bad thing that people who would can?

if you hate having options so maybe you guys should try out iOS.

  • http://twitter.com/TwinShadow_SH Ryan

Wow, this is one the stupidest videos I've seen in a while from a stupid company that sells your information in a heartbeat.. But who am I kidding.. I don't use them, never will... And.. I'm happy about that. At least I still have a life to live. XD

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

May I ask what was stupid about it? I thought it was pretty well-made and relevant.

      • http://twitter.com/TwinShadow_SH Ryan

I'm a bit more biased on most commercials. Most I hate because of just pure stupidity involved in it. But unlike most, I don't actually follow a lot of trends anyway, hence me being out of the social networking stuff. But yes, I do admit I'm biased on a lot of commercials, so take my words with a grain a salt. =P

  • nsnsmj

Honestly, I think the video sucks. The only good thing about it was the yelling goat.

  • Fact

    This video sucks.

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

That's just like your opinion, man.

  • http://www.facebook.com/lee.goldschmidt Lee Goldschmidt

Using it as my lock screen and loving it!

  • hush404

Slightly related, my mom was on facebook the other day and this huge like full page ad for 'home' came up and she gasped, threw down her laptop (gently) and exclaimed "I have a virus trying to sell me phones!" - It was an ad for fb home XD I giggled quite a bit.

  • http://mavi222.deviantart.com/gallery/ Mavi

I don't love this launch video, title lies. :( .... and what it wants to tell you actually? How much you will be productive after you install it or something?

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

I think you need to re-watch it a few times if that's what you got out of that ad.

      • http://mavi222.deviantart.com/gallery/ Mavi

Of course, there are some features of the launcher visible. And then there is an employee who doesn't care what his boss is saying becuse he's too busy using that launcher in the working hours.

  • GreatNews

    Stupid video

  • http://twitter.com/lukamlinar Luka Mlinar

If only they cane make a product as good as the ad.

  • http://www.maverickcreative.ca/ Joshua Richards

The amount of people here who hate on facebook is hilarious. The video is well made, thought out, communicates to its target market, and is a nod to the fact that yes, facebook is a distraction, and everybody knows it.

  • TylerChappell

This ad is pretty good, I liked it. But FB Home is terrible itself. The only thing good to come from it were the Chat Heads.

  • http://www.facebook.com/karlo.sud Karlo Sudec

I like chat heads but facebook home is useless. I will stick to my nova. Video is good. I liked it. http://exclusiveapplications.blogspot.com/
