Unified Remote, in short, is a great app. Its claim to being "easily the most feature-filled PC remote" may have merit, as Artem will attest. The app, in conjunction with a PC-compatible server, will allow your device to control your mouse, keyboard, and favorite software (think Spotify, Winamp, VLC, Hulu, iTunes, etc.) via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.

Besides having impressive (and incredibly handy) functionality, Unified Remote impresses with a clean, easy-to-use interface. It's got big buttons, simple layouts, and oh yeah, it's holo-inspired.

If you're not yet a Unified Remote user, you'd be well-advised to check it out some time in the next two days – the full version is on sale for 70% off its normal price, bringing the cost down to just $0.99. If you're not quite ready to commit even to that price point, try out the demo version first. For a more complete look at what Unified Remote does (and how it works), check out its official website.

Thanks, Scotty!

Unfortunately they don't have it for server for mac working yet.

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

True, though it should be supported in the near future, together with Linux.

      • ssj4Gogeta

Any ETA on the Linux server?

        • troph

          No not yet.

  • navjot

Really on the fence on this one. It looks super useful, but my Macbook is my primary computer right now and it seems like Macs aren't supported yet. Not sure if I should purchase this for the future though.

    • troph

Haha same as I was thinking! It says Version 3 progress is on its way but no ETA yet.

$0.99? There's not even a question that you should, considering they want to bring the multiplatform server soon (Mac, Linux, Windows).

      • navjot

haha I know, but there have been quite a few sales this month that I've taken the plunge on.

EDIT: bah it's killing me, I think I'm just going to buy it.

        • troph

Did the same. I'm a sucker for sales. But I also see this as a donation to dev's to keep it coming.

I don't use Splashtop, but to me Splashtop is like VNC, whereas this app is more useful as a sets of big buttons that control stuff remotely, without having to navigate windows, move your mouse pointer, etc. Plus widgets - they're really powerful.

Yeah this is pretty fantastic already. Only been using it for a few minutes, but I definitely see myself using this daily.

  • mgamerz

I use this app all the time for Windows Media Center. In fact used it today to watch Tommy Boy and The Hunger Games on Netflix (via WMC)!

  • xnifex

Omg my tip got mentioned! Anyway, yay, I bought this & now need to throw together a remote for cyberDVD & I'll be set

I got the Unified Remote too, but I don't like the Winamp controls much. If you want to control the Winamp without any limits, try this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.gebdev.aWARemoteFree it shows your whole library, shows album covers, and everything. I started using Winamp's Media library because of this app and it's so awesome :) You can make your playlists via the phone, change order of the songs and so on :) Once this app is on sale I am grabbing the Pro version :3 (damn this sounds like some advertisement or something :D )

Works fine mostly but it does have some weird quirks. For example I switch to the VLC remote (keyboard) and launch the player by pressing the play button on the bottom right. The app starts but the window is not focused so any input from the remote is useless (the VLC button just flashes in the Windows taskbar but nothing else happens). Likewise when using the Task Manager remote the "Switch to" command flashes the taskbar button but the application does not get focused. The server is running on Windows 7. Is anyone else seeing anything similar ?

Thx for the tip, got it now

There is a vital function missing which is the ability to control other android devices, then it'll beer more useful as my home HTPC is an android device, though I know there are other little apps out there.

    • David Hart

      It'll beer more useful, I don't see a typo.

  • silentwarrior212

Thank you. Instead of 5 bucks, it was 1... thank you.

Jeeze, that didn't last long at all. I installed the free app, but didn't get to my computer until later in the evening to test it on the computer. If it worked fine, I was going to buy it. I don't even think this sale lasted a full day. At 10:00 it was back at full price.

There are free alternative on the google play that work better of this.

  • oesjmr

Thanks for the heads-up! I've been using the free version for years.
