The global rollout continues as Google adds yet another country to the list of places you can order a 16GB Nexus 7. The device showed up in the Play Store today for Rs. 15,999 (roughly $295 USD). No other variants of the tablet appear to be available, though. It's 16 geebees or bust. Currently the store says it will ship by April 5th, but you can order now.

Currently, the only content offerings from Google available on the Play Store are apps and books, but with the pace of advancement lately, it wouldn't surprise us if other services showed up before too long. More importantly, though, with I/O fast approaching, Google seems prepared to (potentially!) launch hardware in more countries at once, which will certainly accelerate sales.

Thanks, Rahul!

Well its a start. I was hoping to see nexus 4 too. :-/

  • http://twitter.com/Mancunian__Red Vasanth

    Welcome playstore

  • MAN

    Very High price for india

    • MAN

expecting the price range between 11000 to 12000

      • Ittiam

its correct price including import duty and taxes... I bought from ebay last year for the same price

  • Abhijeet Mishra

Finally! Nexus 4 probably won't make it here any time soon, if ever, but this is definitely a start. First Books, then that Hindi keyboard, all this hinted at Google expanding, and expanding they are. :D

    • chandradithya

Yeah. This should be their top priority. But frankly speaking its a fault of the banks too. Credit cards implement 3D secure properly. If the online site doesn't support it, it doesn't ask for 3D verification. Debit cards should work on the same principle. Some banks alone have proper implementation to debit cards.

      • Abhijeet Mishra

Yeah, but considering even Wikipedia recently adding support for local payment (through some gateway) and Microsoft has added the verification through browser for debit cards, Google needs to do something similar, and soon.

        • chandradithya

The problem for Google is, their method of storing CVV number and Card details on their cloud is completely against the damn Reserve Bank of India rules.
Won't be surprised if Google gets pretty pissed of the annoying useless rules here by GoI and ask us the use credit cards only for play store

          • aashish kumar

Well RBI rules are quite good much better than US, there are very less chances of fraud only due to the 3D secure mechanism on credit and debit cards.

      • Aman Yajurvedi

I have had wonderful experience with Google Wallet. Use it whenever possible. All play store transactions, Humble Bundle and this now! I have an ICICI Debit card.

        • Abhijeet Mishra

Yeah, ICICI debit card works for me too, and AXIS used to. IDBI and HDFC refuse to work.
I was actually surprised today by HDFC. I bought a Putlocker account for $12.99 via a European gateway, got a call later from HDFC to confirm whether it was me. Never seen that before xD

        • chandradithya

Yeah. I think ICICI have got their implementation right along with HDFC and Citibank debit cards. Axis Debit Cards have mixed results.

    • abhisahara

Its okay i would say. Echoing the same words- Its a start. Since the credit card is already linked while purchasing apps so same card will work. The debit card system is too fragmented in India as the banks have different debit cards for example I still have an SBI debit card which doesn't have a CVV number. Phew ! So sites have to specially corporate the method of paying via SBI debit card without cvv number and why would one want to change the site too much for just that.

      • Abhijeet Mishra

Is your card a Maestro card? I've noticed they don't have a CVV. But you're right. On my iPad, only my IDBI card works, on Play Store only my Dad's one ICICI VISA debit works, while two AXIS ones that worked before stopped working since 3-4 months. I wonder just how fragmented the system is, haha.

I think it's time for me to make a fixed deposit on ICICI and get a credit card through that. Too much crying done over debit card incompatibility.

        • abhisahara

Try for Citibank. Much easier to get their cards if you are working somewhere :)

          • Abhijeet Mishra

That's the issue, I'm only blogging and making money, so only way is to get via ICICI's or HDFC's fixed deposit schemes. I do have an HDFC account but their limit is 80% while ICICI's is 85% of FD amount, so inclined to go for the latter.

Try for Citibank. Much easier to get their cards if you are working somewhere. ;)

    I don’t care about nexus 4
But as the next nexus gets released if it is available in Google play for india I will buy it instead of note 3

  • Anonymous

Welcome Google, I blindly placed the order as soon as I saw device in play store !

  • kindrudekid

the price is a bit on steeper side... the 3g variant would have been perfect but with the current increase in import tax for this year on electroics its still a steal...
people yet to see the effect of these new taxes....

also i gues with google io they may get the next nexus soon!!!!

also google has to expand in india, its an emerging market that has advertising at its infancy....

  • abhisahara

Finally!! But costly than the price available in US. :(

    • Abhijeet Mishra

That will always be the case and something we must live with. But just the fact that Nexus is directly available is awesome, was discussing with a friend on Twitter just today (he's from Ireland) how Google seriously needs to improve Nexus availability, and here they are slowly making that happen :D

Many countries are getting Devices in the Play Store, and Italy still not doing it ?! :(

    • Andrea

      Purtroppo l'Italia è l'Italia.

  • http://twitter.com/navjotbatra Navjot

As awesome as hardware available in other countries is, it kinda sucks that I won't be able to get the next Nexus, use it for a bit, and then sell it online for more than I bought it for to someone in another country :/...Just kidding, it's nice to see the Nexus brand spread.

  • flippingthecoins

The 3G version should come soon so its better to wait for a month.

  • btod

This just sealed the fate of the notion ink adam II...

  • vishal pratap singh

Unless they fix the payment they aren't getting any far. Debit card is the rule here and if Google wants to make money they have to find a way to use debit cards. Flipkart apps are doing well on this front

    • Pallav

They do accept debit cards. Just might not be the one YOU are using.

  • Shiva Kool

nexus 7(2) will be launched at google i/o in may i will wait for that and nexus 5

  • Rodrigost23

    That's great for India :)
Nexus 4 is coming to Brazil this week and probably not through the Play Store, even though Google is going to make a launch event and the invitations were sent in the name of Hugo Barra. I'm just hoping the next nexus generation will come through Google Play...

  • acekay

Great news for Indian Android fans....it will be costlier than US but still a great start. Welcome Google Play Devices :-)

  • Bala

Welcome to India. Looking for new releases to be available soon.

  • http://www.onrupee.com/ King

Finally Nexus 4 16 GB is available through @GooglePlay in India, Thanks @Android & @googleindia wish you will bring more Nexus devices soon

    • Tanmay Agrawal

      It's Nexus "7" not "4"

  • Samvith V Rao

AWESOME!!!! Now I don't have to depend on friends returning from the US to buy Nexus devices. Thanks Google!

  • Ittiam

Great start... I think Google is testing demand by launching only one variant... Hopefully the demand is sufficiently high, for quick launch of future devices

  • aj

    waiting now for nexus 4

Trying to think of all the pots, grass and monsters I would have to smash in Legend of Zelda to get 16,000 rupees. XD

Jokes aside, it's great to see India now have access to Google Play device to develop and sell their apps, games and live wallpapers on.

  • gunsranger

Now that they have launched officially , expecting prices to go down in Black Market for Other Variants :)

  • http://twitter.com/LV2355 Laurentiu

Very high price... even higher than Europe (where is about $255 USD).

  • RenatoFontesTapia

I would really like that they sold devices in Mexico... We are USA's neighbor u_u
