Now if only the Amazon appstore was available in Canada...

    • StriderWhite

Waaaat? Not available in Canada? This is madness...

      • Randy

        Madness? This. is. Alberta!

  • Gentleman

    Amazon Apps? No, thank you.

  • Xye

Thank you for the heads up.

I got three. Two of which are in the just-in-case-I-need-them-someday category xD

Apps could be so-so... What I really hate is the Amazon App all by Itself, with full lags and glitchy responses in every single page. PLUS BG process are huge in consuming resources in any device. Skipped...

What am I waiting for? I'm waiting for the Amazon app store to not suck. Hell, the free apps aren't worth the price, I couldn't remotely fathom actually paying for something from there. I've bought a bunch of apps from Google Play though.

I didn't mind purchasing apps from Amazon earlier, but lately I get a forced login dialog for their AppStore when I'm trying to use purchased apps. That's annoying enough to make me dump their app and purchase apps I want to keep from Google Play.

      Aaargh, indeed!

That bug's been killing me for a few months now.

Good news is, the latest update (dated March 12th) seems to finally have fixed that.

Still, I'm closer and closer to ditching them entirely.

Here in Europe, Amazon.com blocks me from buying any Android applications at all. Believe me, I've tried in so many ways. Amazon sucks.

  • NC dude

Amazon apps.. not me. You folks from other countries aren't missing a thing.

I made the mistake of becoming dependent upon an email app I got through the Amazon Appstore. Now, every time the app polls for new mail, Amazon Appstore starts up in the background and uses 100% of my CPU for 3-4 minutes each time, seemingly going through all the apps on my phone (of which only the email app is from Amazon) and causing them to launch in the background. I could buy the app again through Google Play, but I know from re-buying some of the Amazon free apps of the day that I'll have to uninstall it before installing the Google Play version, and it provides no way to export my settings or mail archive. Same goes for using one of the DRM removal tools... the fixed APK gets a new signature, have to uninstall first.

I froze the Amazon Appstore app, which solved the CPU problem but resulted in a force close several times a day, and after 2 or 3 days the apps would no longer work, informing me I needed to log into the Amazon Appstore.

It's a bad deal for developers and annoying for customers. On my tablet, it's not a bad source of games to use on airplanes or whatever, but never, ever install anything you'll actually need. I buy a lot through Amazon because we're Prime members, but I'll never, ever pay Amazon for an Android app again. And sometimes free doesn't really mean free.

Oh yeah, and they weren't kidding when they said "limited time"... less than 24 hours later, they're all back to full price.

I paid the ~20 bucks in the Play Store to get all the free apps I used through Amazon and got rid of that sucker. I do not like that I have to be connected to the Internet to use an offline app and I definitely do not like apps running in the background ALL THE TIME.

    Mostly, goofy games, fail.

I always grab anything that looks like it might be good when I see it mentioned as free, but I'm not interested in using the Amazon App Store right now. Maybe it'll become good some day and I'll use a few of those apps. Some I've purchased on Google Play after getting them free on Amazon.
