Asana Mobile

As a collaboration manager, Asana is gathering a bit of steam. That momentum should be a little less constricted now that they've got an Android app, though to be honest, it's little more than a wrapper for the service's very iOS-centric mobile site.

--

Asana is a collaboration tool that centers your team's communication around Projects & Tasks, keeping your team organized and in sync at all times. Best of all, it's FREE for up to 30 teammates. The Asana Android app takes the power of Asana and puts it right in your pocket. Asana Mobile makes it easy and fast to manage your team's tasks, organize its projects and stay connected to your teammates – from wherever you are.

Hoozin Group Chat (Beta)

Most group chats use the all-too-familiar reverse chronological order, just like a one-on-one chat. If you've ever had an office conversation in this format, you know it can get cumbersome quickly. Hoozin Group Chat (really?) attempts to rectify this with a conference table approach, putting avatars and chat bubbles in a radial design that makes it easy to see who's saying what.

--

hoozin is a free group messanger with unique approach to design and user experience. Hoozin let’s you hang with the gang anytime, anywhere on your mobile device. It's the best place to meet your friends whenever you can't meet them. With hoozin your screen will finally look and feel like a real conversation, as if you were sitting with your friends at your favorite hangout – you can see everybody, share photos, send group messages tell secrets, show emotions, vote to go out and much more..

TimeSync Beta

If you want to keep your class schedule handy, put it in Google Calendar. If you want to share it with your friends, share the calendar through the standard function. Or you could install a new app, with no outside service integration, and force them all to start using it. It's up to you. At least it lets you log in with your Google account.

--

Heading back to school or uni and want a way to check out what your friends are doing? With TimeSync, not only will you be able to keep a track of your own timetable, but your friends timetables as well.

  • View and manage your own timetable
  • Keep up to date with your friends timetables
  • Timetable synced to the cloud for easy backup
  • Add your friends and check if they're currently busy or free to hang out
  • Checkin at local places, so your friends can work out where to meet you during your time away from class

My Job Chart

While most parents use the old carrot and stick approach to teaching their kids much-needed values through domestic slavery, it's a fact that juggling chores among two or more of the little brats can get tiresome. If you're crazy enough to give your children their own smartphones, be sane enough to use My Job Chart to manage their assignments in a homemaking workflow.

--

My Job Chart is the free, easy to use, online chore chart and reward system for organizing and motivating your kids to learn first hand how to Save, Share and Spend responsibly. For no cost, you can engage and inspire your children to be more responsible and productive while developing their financial maturity and brining your family closer together.

Cliffhanger

Cliffhanger aims to provide an easy and accessible way to track television on your Android device. Similar in many ways to iMDB (though TV-specific), it lists series and episode guides for pretty much all popular American programs, and provides pride of place for the channel and timeslot for each new episode. You can edit your favorite shows for a customized look, and view an upcoming schedule. The interface is an impressive Holo standard, but there have been quite a few bugs reported already.

--

TV Tracking made simple. Cliffhanger is an app designed especially for TV fans, with specific attention to simplicity and a user-friendly design. We are sure that using Cliffhanger will improve the way you manage your TV schedule. Enjoy. This app will help you keep track of your content, let you know when & where it is available, and even add calendar events. Enjoy exploring upcoming & previous episodes using our intuitive design, backed by Trakt.tv and IMDb databases. Cliffhanger will study your preferred shows, suggest similar programs you may like, and provide you with useful information.

DIRECTV for Tablets

Android Police coverage: DIRECTV Releases Awesome Android Tablet App And, Unsurprisingly, It Doesn't Work With The Nexus 7

The only thing worse than publishers ignoring Android tablets is deciding that they need an app all to their own - there are ways to make them work on both, you know. Even so, it's nice of DirecTV to at least release the app. Just don't expect to catch up on Breaking Bad from your tablet; programming is limited to DirecTV's in-house channel and a few others. And for reasons of pedantic cable contracts, you can only stream on your home WiFi network. Oh, and it has some strange incompatibilities, including the Nexus 7. At least you can get the guide anywhere.

--

The ultimate video experience is just a tap away with the DIRECTV App for Android tablets. Now you can watch live TV in any room of your home. With select channels, including AUDIENCE Network™, you can tune in to them whenever and wherever you want – at home or on the go. Limited programming available. Additional charges may apply. Available to customers in the USA only.

Petfinder

Petfinder is a surprisingly robust website with adoption listings and classifieds for domesticated animals, mostly dogs and cats. Their new mobile component includes all the essential functions of the website, mostly pertaining to filters by animal breed, age, gender and so on. There's also a handy list of shelters nationwide, so if you want to do it the old-fashioned way, you're covered.

--

Download the all-new Petfinder app for Android and search more than 370,000 pets from 14,000 adoption groups. Find your perfect pet and share profiles via Facebook, Twitter, and e-mail. Flag your favorite pets and leave notes for future review, read heartwarming adoption stories, get pet-training tips from our videos and more.

9GAG - Official 9GAG app

If you don't get enough memes from Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, Reddit, Digg, and various other sundry Internet holes, you probably fill up your quota at 9gag. It's the home of literally every macro image in the net. Now it's got an official Android app (there have been a handful of unofficial ones floating around for a while). There's not a whole lot of functionality here- it's basically just a feed with share buttons. But what more do you really need for 9gag?

WeVideo for Android (Beta)

Android Police coverage: [New App] WeVideo Is A Striking, Simple Video Editor For Android (Limited To Select Devices For Now)

Video editors are complicated, which is probably why they haven't made many in-roads to mobile (or at least Android) so far. WeVideo hopes to buck that trend with the help of an intuitive user interface. You can integrate still images and music, add transitions, adjust volume levels, export to YouTube and Facebook, and use the WeVideo web service for even more options. Too bad the beta is only compatible with later Galaxy and Nexus devices so far.

--

The WeVideo Editor helps you capture memories and moments wherever they happen, and turn them into amazing videos to share with others, across your favorite social networks.

Briefly, WeVideo for Android lets you:

• Easily capture photos and video footage
• Trim, split, arrange and stylize your video clips
• Add existing music, photos, and videos
• Export to social channels
• Sync your mobile content with the cloud

1SaleADay Daily Deals

If you've ever been to Woot.com, you know how this works: daily deals on overstocked items from other outlets, some of which you might even want. Since the site has been expanding as of late, 1SaleADay also offers more general deals, sharing to Facebook and Twitter, and the "special" deals just for registered members. Perhaps most useful are the push notifications for new deals.

--

1SaleADay is the premier site for finding great Daily Deals at up to 90% off. Don’t let the name fool you: in addition to having 5 unique deals running each day on our Main, Wireless, Watch, Family, and Jewelry tabs, you will find a veritable treasure chest of deals in our members-only Flash section. The key to finding truly great deals is to always stay in the loop; with this in mind, we bring you the official 1SaleADay Mobile App for Android devices.

Pixplit - Social Photos

Pixplit wants to be Instagram. It wants it so bad. It even tells you so, right there in the app description. And the screenshots. And then again in the description. But unlike the service everyone loves to hate, Pixplit offers functionality you can't get with the apps already built into every smartphone on the planet, namely a collage builder with a social element. If you trust your peers to create a filtered, cropped photo as good as yours, you can share through the standard means.

--

Create awesome social photos with your friends. It's a simple and fun way to connect with people using your photos. Where Social & Creativity Meet - With Pixplit you take part in a creative dialogue with people you know, and people you want to know. And the results are creative collaborations that offer constant surprise, and infinite opportunities for creativity and exploration. Get Inspired. Get Creative. Get Addicted.

Svpply

Fashionistas, you know the drill: find and save designer items (mostly clothing) for perusal later. Luckily, there's no social element for Svpply, and the user interface is surprisingly Holo compliant (especially for an iOS convert). The app claims millions of available products across more than a hundred thousand categories.

--

Svpply is a hand-selected collection of the world's best products from all across the web, with over 5,000 new products brought in every day. Save the products you want and build collections of products you love.

Features:
• Follow the stores you love
• Over 2.4 million of the best products from across the web
• Over 110,000 stores and brands.
• Shop from over 30 simple categories

NoshList

I've often wondered why those wireless restaurant buzzers are still around when everyone's using smartphones. Apparently the developer for NoshList wondered the same thing, and made an alert app to solve the conundrum. In addition to remote alerts for restaurateurs, users get access to up-to-the-minute wait time estimates.

--

NoshList is a free waitlist management application for restaurants. It features free SMS/phone call notifications to alert parties when their table is ready, venue analytics calculated in realtime, and integration to the Nosh consumer application. Using a clean, simple and uncluttered interface, NoshList is the easiest and most effective way to manage a waitlist.

MessageMe

MessageMe doesn't have much to recommend itself over the dozens of similar free SMS replacements, but since these things are all about which of your friends are using them (and how many) we thought we'd throw it in. At least it's got Facebook integration, as well as some relatively novel doodle/notation functionally.

--

MessageMe is the fastest and most fun way to chat. Drop the need for SMS and exchange one-on-one or group text messages with your friends and family worldwide at absolutely no cost. All your favorite ways of connecting with those who are important to you are integrated directly into the app, so never waste time again sending YouTube videos, iTunes songs, voice recordings, emoticons and more. Additionally, express your creative side by drawing doodles directly on top of other pictures.

Snoox

Need a Yelp service that isn't Yelp? Snoox (man, the lack of usable URLs is starting to bite down hard) is here to help. This one's more focused on your circle of contacts than the big wide world, but you can leave anonymous reviews and make recommendations just like that other service.

--

Post, search and share top recommendations from the real experts: you and your friends. If you’re looking for anything – a great place to eat, drink, shop or top tips on TV, travel, music, movies and more – you’ve come to the right place. Here, you’ll find great recommendations on everything, from the people you know and trust. Have a line on an off-the-menu dish? Discover a hidden hotel? Contribute your own top picks for cool places and covet-worthy things.

Thread

Contrary to their claim, Thread is not the first service to display a caller's latest social status when you get an incoming call. But it is a pretty good take on the idea, with an impressive tabbed UI. After the call (or, as it may be, the hang-up) there a quick links to respond via Facebook, Twitter, text or email. It also works as an all-in-one social client, if that's your thing.

--

Thread is caller ID re-imagined. On incoming calls, Thread not only shows you who is calling, but also displays the caller’s latest Facebook and Twitter posts and your most recent texts and emails with them, giving you greater context for the call. After the call, if you want to respond to them via social media, email or text, you can do that directly from within the app.

SuperBeam

SuperBeam is a simple concept: share files of any size via NFC verification. While it's a natural idea, and the structure allows for much larger files than NFC throughput alone, there's one big drawback: it only works if both devices are on the same WiFi network. At least there's a hotspot mode for tethering.

--

SuperBeam allows you to share big files between devices easily and quickly, without the hassle of setting up manual connections or waiting for slow bluetooth transfers. SuperBeam utilizes NFC to initiate the connection, then transfers your files using WiFi. No more worries about sharing big files and videos. SuperBeam allows you to share multiple files at once, with a single touch. Simply, connect both devices (sender and receiver) to the same WiFi network, choose your files from gallery (or file manager), share using SuperBeam and hold devices back to back. Touch to SuperBeam and that's it. You don't have to hold your devices closer anymore.

GymProvise Gym/Workout Tracker

Workout trackers aren't hard to find on the Play Store, but this one might just be worth your attention. In addition to the standard planning and recording features, it's got a surprisingly visual UI that's designed to both illustrate a variety of exercises and educate users on their purpose. Weight and running logs are thrown in for good measure.

--

Leave the pen & notebook at home. GymProvise is THE Workout & Bodybuilding app for gym junkies, fitness enthusiasts, bodybuilders & anyone serious about getting fitter and stronger. GymProvise is a premium Gym app. It's a Workout Tracker, Workout Planner, Exercise Directory, Weight Tracker, Progress Tracker & General Fitness Application. It's a Workout App which makes it easy to plan & track all your fitness activity, in the gym & outdoors. GymProvise is a workout app with many features to suit everyone from the novice trainers to the advanced bodybuilders. Here's just some:

Libratone

Libratone is better known for its Apple AirPlay-enabled speaker systems, and this app sadly doesn't allow for wirelessly transmitting Android audio to the proprietary standard. It does allow you to remotely control the volume of multiple speakers, including a customizable equalizer. The app's free, and isn't that a blessing, considering the price of the speakers.

--

The Libratone app is an easy-to-use application, designed to let users experience amazing sounds from all three of Libratone’s wireless speakers - Libratone Zipp, Live and Lounge. Whether you have one or more Libratone speakers, the app conveniently lets you setup your sound system to ensure your room is filled with amazing sound. By feeding the app information about your surroundings, you can even customize your sound experience perfectly to the room you are in.

Reebok Fitness

We've seen Nike get into the digital personal trainer space (which, apparently, is a thing now) so Reebok is right on their meticulously-researched heels. The standards are here: workout plans, explanatory videos, and people who look like they get paid quite a lot to look good smiling at the camera in skin-tight outfits. Which might make the app worth it even if you don't intend to exercise.

--

Stuck in the same old workout routine? Switch things up with Reebok Fitness. Choose from training, running, dance, yoga and walking to create your customized workout program – you can pick your favorites or try new activities. Adding variety to your workouts can challenge and motivate you to keep going. Get motivation along the way and improve your fitness with the power of variety. You’ll get a breakdown of your achievements when you complete each workout that you can share with your friends.

Spacecraft 3D

Android Police coverage: NASA Releases Augmented Reality App With 3D Models Of Real Spacecraft Like Curiosity

Admit it, this makes the little kid in you smile. NASA is jumping on the augmented reality bandwagon that lets you land three-dimensional scale models of various spaceships and rovers on your coffee table, provided that you've got a handy printer to print out the key image. NASA is planning on expanding the lineup of manned and robotic vehicles in the future.

--

NASA's Spacecraft 3D is an augmented reality (AR) application that lets you learn about and interact with a variety of spacecraft that are used to explore our solar system, study Earth, and observe the universe. Using a printed AR Target and the camera on your mobile device, you can get up close with these robotic explorers, see how they move, and learn about the engineering feats used to expand our knowledge and understanding of space.

BB - Trouble with Chores

We've featured these OceanHouse Media children's books before, so you know the drill: finger-friendly formatting, follow the bouncing ball reading assistance, and full narration. Take your edutainment in Bernstein Bears...

--

Papa Bear and the cubs always seem to find a reason not to do their chores, coming up with creative excuses and bickering with each other. When Mama Bear decides to avoid doing her chores as well, the mess builds up ... and up ... and up. The Bear family soon learns that living in a messy house is not much fun at all. New features only available in this interactive omBook include professional narration, background audio and enlarged artwork for each scene.

What a Bad Dream

...or Little Critter flavors.

--

Little Critter dreams that a magic potion turns him into a scary, disagreeable monster that no one wants to be around. In his dream, he does whatever he wants. He has cookies and ice cream for breakfast, doesn't brush his fur or fangs, never changes his clothes or takes a bath, skips school and stays up late watching TV. When Little Critter is sleepy and ready for bed, there's no one there to tuck him in and read him a story. Luckily for Little Critter, it's all just a bad dream. Young children will relate to the sweet and funny ending.

Just Going to the Dentist

Little Critter is off to the dentist's office. He gets a thorough checkup and cleaning, complete with dental x-rays. When Dr. Ghum finds a cavity, Little Critter bravely gets a filling. The visit is painless and Little Critter's good nature reassures young readers that going to the dentist is not that bad after all. Mercer Mayer's Little Critter stories, which address all the major issues of growing up, are perennial favorites of parents and children.

Zoe's Green Planet

Most of the Oceanhouse titles we feature stick pretty close to the "book" side of interactive kids' apps, but this app by Square Igloo straddles the "game" line. In addition to a fully-animated story, you get five minigames involving the titular Zoe making her way around the little planet. It's definitely for kids only, but if you're tired of reading the kids that you read when you were four, this could be a nice break.

--

Zoe is a little green girl who lives on a planet where everything is green. So she only knows one color: green. Until the day when a red spaceship lands. The Takino family from the red planet decides to settle in on the green planet. Discover a poetic, humorous, tender universe, wonderfully illustrated by Matt Roussel with a paper mache style. A completely animated, interactive story for 2/6 year olds.

Is it just me or is that alarm clock icon uncannily close to Doubletwist Alarm's icon? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.doubleTwist.alarmClock

    • ltredbeard

Are you talking about the bell? If so, yes, the outline of a bell looks like the outline of another bell.

    • Shabaz

I guess the alarm icon has been changed

  • http://www.baronsofbullshit.com/ seriosbrad

I don't have a hot spot option in SuperBeam! Why!? :(

  • sssgadget

That alarm clock is a gimmick. You can actually shake little by little and it counts the shakes as steps. Now if you shake constantly then t detects those as shakes. Also the legit steps don't get detected as steps. Maybe once in 3 steps it wil detect as a step.

BBQDSLR is not the first application for controlling your Nikon DSLR, there are other applications on Google Play for long time.

  • whitehawk66

    Huge list.

Maybe sort it some smaller pieces next time.

PS more is not better when discussing apps or all the crap that marketing likes to seduce us into believing we need to have in our lives.

  • Tee

Wake me up! Should have gotten an icon of its own instead of snatching the doubleTwist (best in the business) one.

Another great and new app: Graphite Graphing Calculator. It does all kinds of functions, can calculate almost everyhting and it makes very nice graphs. Despite it being brand new, functionality wise it's already almost on the level of Handycalc (the best cal app in my opinion, but doesn't get updated anymore)

  • ChainsawCharlie

    So many social apps.

I see people complaining about how Walk Me Up can be fooled by shaking it. But dont you get it guys, its still harder to shake the phone and mimic the steps than just sliding towards the Snooze button. I installed this after reading this article and believe you me, this thing really makes you get out of the bed. Happened today, though i did walk to the loo and went back to sleep to be late once again.

    • Waalah

Oh and i think they updated it today to change the icon. Now give them an article here, or "somebody's gonna get a hurt"
