The Play Store sale we spotted kicking off in Australia earlier today has started hitting the US this evening, marking the 1-year anniversary of the Play Store. The deals so far are mostly songs and various in-app purchase / offer discounts, but the splash page for the promotion indicates there will be even more deals as the week goes on.

Here are the deals so far.

Yeah, it isn't our favorite Play Store promo, either - a lot of these are rehashes, and some of them barely qualify as 'deals' (who can't find the pilot episode of Breaking Bad for free?). Hopefully the selection will get [a lot] better as the week goes on.

Kung fu panda still shows 9.99. Also it will be the 'SD' version because HD is more than 9.99.

    • daveloft

It's on sale now as well as How To Train Your Dragon, Monsters vs Aliens and a few other Dreamworks movies.

      • sssgadget

Movies are cheaper on Amazon vod. 6.99 each.

        • daveloft

          Not in Canada

  • NexusKoolaid

Nice deals I suppose, but I'm looking for some apps on the cheap.

And let's hope they make some good offers for users outside the US.

In Italy there are no Movies, TV or Magazines, and the Music and Books are different (Free tracks or Books in the US are not free here)

Mexico suffers from the same problem (No Movies, TV, Magazines, Book or Music)
All we got was some lame games and a coupon for a trip to USA >_>

        • http://twitter.com/PB_GBG PB

Haha, why would a Mexican want a coupon for travelling to the USA? Ooh, wait, I see what they mean. .. ;)

  • aNYthing6

    Not seeing it yet.

  • Hans J

Not seeing the Breaking Bad Pilot ep as free

The sale is likely being staggered by time zone. It'll show up eventually.

    • blahmoomoo

It's finally free for me. It doesn't appear free on the sale page, but it is free on the show's page. AND it's in HD, so kudos to them!

Final Fantasy Dimensions is USD $10!

  • Mark

Wow. Lamest "sale" Google Play has ever had. Hope it gets better soon.

    • http://twitter.com/oOBlueOo Haunter

How dare they give away a bunch of free stuff for their birthday.

      • squiddy20

Considering they've had a lot more, for a lot less significant events, this is pretty... boring.
We're not saying free stuff is bad, just that it could've been better.

I personally would prefer another 25p/25¢ sale to having mediocre free stuff. I got a lot of out of that sale including Nova Launcher and Broken Sword.

Still nice to see Google is offering something, I guess...

      • NexusKoolaid

You're right! Free movies that I've already watched. Free music from bands I don't listen to. Free in-app purchases for games I don't play. 10% off a hotel room for that trip I'm not taking anytime soon. Guess I better run to the store and get a nice big thank-you card.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1355749933 Jack Jones

And why do you think that you're entitled to free things?

          • NexusKoolaid

You've completely missed my point. I'd rather pay something for apps and media that I want. This promotion's selection is so uninteresting I don't want any of it even if it is free.

    • zookee

      The Christmass sale was worse...

  • Raloc

The Sandbox has all of its IAP's at 50% off too with a special Google Play level for this, so it seems like there might be more things that haven't made their way to the promo page.

  • Brian

Anyone tried Gyft to see what the freebies are?

    • infernalpudding

It was Posh Mommy and Shoptiques for me. As a very non-pregnant man, not much use on this end, but hey...I can't really complain since it's free. (:

  • http://www.baronsofbullshit.com/ seriosbrad

None of the songs available for free purchase in Canada.

  • wewewi

50% off Final Fantasy Dimensions is kinda welcome..
(I can't believe SwiftKey gave me "Fantasy" and "VII" after I typed "Final" ; I swear it's the first time I mention this game franchise)

  • Rob

Um, GYFT? Don't apps like CardStar and Keyring already support tracking of gift cards? Plus the various comments of male customers receiving $10 g/c's to places like Shoptiques and Posh Mommy is just a dealbreaker for me.

    • http://twitter.com/jheyneman James Heyneman

Yeah, that's all I got were those crap gift cards. :-/

    • Lily

Can I have your gift cards?

  • RandomRant

    terrible deals.

However, LCD Soundsystem's song All My Friends is one of the best songs released that year imo so at least pick that up since it's free anyway.

  • Guest

The Play Store isn't one year old guys.

    • IncCo

They changed the name a year ago

  • http://twitter.com/chaosz911 René de Groot

Nothing interesting here :( Congrats for the one year though.

  • Garry DeWitt

The free track is pretty terrible IMHO.

  • Bob Severns

Google Play's all like, "Thank you for coming to my birthday party and being on time. Please enjoy these stale Stelladora breadsticks. We will put out piiza, chips and cake when the cool kids get here."

  • NK

no offers in India yet..its already 4pm..whole day gone..

  • primalxconvoy

This "sale" makes the psn look good, and that's rather hard to do.

There is no such a sale in the Spanish Play Store, shame on Google :(

    - There is no sign of the sale at all on the web.
    - The book and the movie are not available, I suppose because they are in English.
    - The episode can't be accessed, but it's fair enough because we don't have TV at the play store yet.
    - The songs show up, but are not free.
    - In-app purchases, not worth even trying.

I do like that they're expanding out of just making some apps 50% off though. I'd like to see some more television shows, maybe a movie, a few more books, perhaps a magazine or two on there, though.

Nothing to see, move along. ..
