review-powerbag-instant-messenger-bag-yes-putting-batteries-in-a-bag-is-one-of-the-best-semi-obvious-ideas-ever

Do you feel drained of energy after a long trip? Imagine how your devices feel. Woot might be able to help out with their pain and suffering. Today only, Wooters can get the Powerbag Instant Messenger and Powerbag Sling for just $39.99 each. David gave the Instant Messenger very high marks in his review, and we know that he and Aaron use this bag in their day-to-day activities.

Note: There are inconsistencies about pocket sizes between the manufacturer website and Woot. I'm taking these numbers from the manufacturer.

Before you buy, there are a few things to consider first. Some owners have complained that the individual connectors will break over time without any way to replace them. Based on reviews, this does not appear to be unusually common, but it is a good reminder to treat them with care. Also, some phones may have trouble charging from the microUSB connector, but they should be fine if plugged into the more powerful full-size USB port. Along the same lines, the full-size port may not provide enough amperage to charge some tablets, especially those in the 10" form factor. Finally, these bags only come with a 3000 mAh battery, which is slightly smaller (by 100 mAh) than the battery in the Galaxy Note II. The good news, the battery is interchangeable, so you can always purchase extras for your electron-hungry devices. Despite these potential issues, most of the reviews remain very positive.

Right now, Woot appears to have the lowest price for either of these bags without buying used. Amazon sells the Messenger for $53.85 and the Sling for $83.99, both with free ground shipping (sorry, not Prime-eligible). Finishline is also offering the Sling bag for $67.49 with another $5.49 (or more) for shipping. Since this is Friday, Woot waves its normal shipping price of $5 per item and only charges $5 to ship your entire order (including items from their other stores).

If the travel bug has hit your but your phone can't go unplugged, hit the link and pick up your bag today.

Just ordered one. This is absolutely perfect. Something I've been wanting for awhile now! Thanks AP!

Meh, I have a 5000 mAh Vaas charger that cost me $15 and fits anywhere in my bag easily.

I've got the same one, but I have reason to believe that it's not charging my GNex at the full 2.1A. Do you have similar issues by any chance?

      • ProductFRED

I only use the 1A side because I've heard it's not good to use the 2.1A side on phones (as opposed to tablets). I wouldn't doubt your issue though; it was only $15 and some reviews on Amazon say some of them have just flat out died.

2.1 A does no damage whatsoever. If anything, it's better for the phone than 1 A. Also, 1 A can barely be called charging.

If you have a Note 2, you can get two spare batteries with a wall charger for $20 on Amazon and then buy a bag whose style, pockets, and other functionality more closely match your needs. I'm sure the same holds true for other phones as well.

    Just a heads

Just a heads up - the images on Woot suggest that this bag may not be the exact model in David's review. From what I can tell, the one Woot's selling's either a discontinued model or an older version of the same model David reviewed. I point this out because, from what I can tell of the photos, it looks like the pocket sizes and layouts have changed. This may or may not be an issue to buyers.

Not an issue. The messenger bag style is indeed different, but if it can still fit a laptop and my tablet with a few phones, then I am good to go. I would have liked the sling bag but it wouldn't fit my laptop. :(

Great excuse to get a new laptop bag! This messenger bag is my stop gap. I already have two soap bar emergency chargers to supplement long trips btw charges so this is perfect to consolidate most of my electronics on a plane trip. Thanks AP!
