If you have a Sonos music system, then the companion app for Android just got quite a bit more useful. To go along with a new update for your Sonos system, the company also updated its Android app with a handful of new features:

  • One-click access to your favorite music, radio, and playlists with "Sonos Favorites."
  • Now Playing widget that is customizable by room and provides instant control of Sonos without launching the full app.
  • Taskbar notifications to display the currently playing track.
  • Improved search features.

So there you go – it's like Christmas for your Sonos. With new firmware and an improved app, it's like getting a brand new gadget! OK, not really. But it's still neat and useful. So that's something.

Oddly enough, about a month and a half ago, I emailed them asking for a notification with playback controls, a widget, and a better way to browse available content (unified favorites?), among other things. The app is still ugly and terrible UI/UX wise but at least it's easier to pause and play on the fly.
