Prehistoric Park

Today's roundup is sponsored by Prehistoric Park by Gear Games. There is no fossil evidence that early homo sapiens or Neanderthals enjoyed theme parks. But there's no evidence that they didn't, either. Gear Games uses this paleontological loophole for Prehistoric Park, an entry in the theme park manager genre with a One Million BC twist. There are dozens of rides, surprisingly advanced infrastructure features, and cutesy sprite-based graphics the make one think of Sim City: Bedrock Edition. Prehistoric Park is free to play, with in-app purchases for game currency.

Prehistoric Park is a free theme park building simulator that will show you a whole new angle of the prehistoric life. Take up the call of the primeval past and enter the world of crazy prehistoric rides, attractions and roller coasters! Turn a boring caveman’s life into a wonderful never-ending holiday! • You can choose from more than 60 mind boggling attractions and rides: giant wooden swings, trampolines made from mammoth hide, giddy merry-go-rounds, stone slides, extreme roller coasters, water rapids and even dinomotors powered by real huge Jurassic dinosaurs to make all these rides run!
  • Decorate your theme park with exotic trees, unique flowers, pagan totems and stone temples.
  • Build snack bars, drinking fountains, balloon stands and restrooms around the park to meet your customers' needs.
  • Build cozy rest areas and place benches around for your visitors to feel comfortable in your wonderful amusement park.
  • Offer your guests a fruit cocktail, cook them a great kabob and treat them with the first ice cream ever created.

Rise of the Blobs

Android Police coverage: [New Game] From The Maker Of Wind-Up Knight, Rise Of The Blobs Is A Clever Puzzler With Cool Visuals

The falling block puzzle gets a major facelift from noted developer Robot Invader. The objective of Rise of the Blobs is lining up various foodstuffs in order, vanishing them in combos to keep them away from the stranded protagonist. The real appeal is in the visuals, which manage some pretty impressive style despite the cutesy premise and characters.

You’ve never seen a puzzle game like this before. Waves of hungry blobs are making their way up a column towards our stranded marshmallow hero. Help Marsh Mal survive the invasion by filling blobs with fruit and popping them in massive chains. Once you’ve mastered the basics, a collection of other game modes are waiting to challenge you in new ways. You ready to rise to this colorful challenge?

Super Hexagon

Android Police coverage: [New Game] Terry Cavanagh's Super Hexagon Brings Its Rhythmic, Addictive Gameplay To Android

The object of Super Hexagon is simple: move your little triangle to avoid the lines as they converge on the center of the hexagon in time to the music. That's a lot easier said than done. This frantic, stylish twitch game comes from the guy who made VVVVVV and Don't Look Back, and it's already a favorite on PC and iOS. At the time of writing, it's still on sale for a buck - that may rise to $3 at any moment.

Super Hexagon is a minimal action game by Terry Cavanagh, with music by Chipzel. A note to Nexus 7 owners: The game suffers some input lag on this device that we have been unable to fix. I originally excluded this device from sale, but after several requests from Nexus 7 owners I decided to make it available. I sincerely hope it doesn't interfere with your enjoyment of the game too greatly. We'll update in future if we're able to find a solution to this problem.

House Of Hell

Android Police coverage: [New Game] Tin Man Games Brings Another Fighting Fantasy Adventure To Android With 'House Of Hell'

Tin Man's unique series of Fighting Fantasy games doesn't really have an equivalent to which they can be compared. It's more like a mix between one of the old Choose Your Own Adventure books and a Dungeons and Dragons-style tabletop RPG. The latest is House of Hell, which I can only be assume will be followed by Staircase of Satan, then Pond of Death.

Fighting Fantasy, the world famous interactive gamebook series is back. Steve Jackson and Tin Man Games present House of Hell.. "Taking refuge in the infamous House of Hell has to be the worst mistake of your life. The dangers of the torrential storm outside are nothing compared to the blood-curdling adventures that await you inside. Who knows how many hapless wanderers like yourself have perished within its gruesome walls? Be warned. Tonight is going to be a night to remember..."

Gunslugs Free

Android Police coverage: [New Game] OrangePixel Delivers 8-Bit Shoot 'Em Up Fun In 'Gunslugs'

If you long for the glory days of Contra or Metal Slug... well, you could actually grab both games on the Google Play Store. But for a modern take on the side-scrolling shooter, check out Gunslugs. It's your typical "one 'roided-up hero against the world" game, but the self-aware humor and tight controls should be enough to rope in any genre fan. Levels are randomly generated, and interstitial vehicle sections help break up the rain of bullets... with more bullets.

Gunslugs is the most chaotic, fun, arcade action game you'll find on any platform. Non-stop action from the guys behind Meganoid, Meganoid 2 and Stardash. FREE VERSION, Comes with advertising, if you hate that, please support us by buying the premium version without ads.

  • Random level generation - no 2 game sessions will be the same.

Gene Effect

Android Police coverage: [New Game] Gene Effect Is The Protoss Probe Simulator You Never Knew You Wanted To Play

Gene Effect defies description. Ostensibly it's a Metroid-style platformer with a focus on exploration, but your character pilots a mining ship, and there's a surprising focus on the conspiracy story. Puzzles and upgrades abound, making different parts of the game appealing to different players. The visuals are simple yet striking, and the ambient music can be accessed via the in-app player.

Gene Effect takes place in the not so distant future. Mankind explores space using an ancient technology found in an abandoned alien ore mine on Mars. We are now capable of exploiting resources from foreign planets. One day a mining vessel is missing on the planet Kratoss. What starts as a simple rescue mission turns into the discovery of a secret that threatens the existence of mankind.

Ironfell

Ironfell combines elements of turn-based strategy games like Civilization with a persistent, permanent, and real-time MMO world. You can set to conquering like an 8-bit Napoleon, or cooperate with your fellow players for grand construction, a la Minecraft. The idea and execution is extremely unique, and the developer claims that he'll expand on the time travel elements. Just give me dinosaurs versus redcoats, please.

The great big multiplayer strategy game that gives you the unfair advantage. Embark on an epic crusade across all of space and time in real time. From humble beginnings in a safe green valley, explore and conquer thousands of realms by land and by sea. Collect resources, build an army, and crush those who dare challenge you (or just plant flowers and raise ponies).

Death Track

The imagery of TRON's lightcycle is so attractive that there are at least as many clones on the Play Store as there are fart apps. But the latest doesn't sit back and copy the Snake idea yet again: Death Track is more like an endless runner game, where the objective is to dodge obstacles and reach the end in the fastest time possible. You can also upgrade the individual parts in your bike, which might just be a first for a TRON-inspired title.

In Death Track you will have an opportunity to control the best motobike ever and use the garage with wide range of upgrades and skills to feel speed potential of the motobike. Try yourself as a driver and take part in risky racing game. Death Track is a 3D moto racing game with superb visual effects and thrilling elements of the game play. The atmosphere in Death Track will help you to travel into the future, feel deadly speed and plunge into the world of extreme bends. The combination of an innovative effects and game technology will bring you to the real world of speed and deadly racing tracks.

Life is Magic

Ingress is for punks - real fantasy gamers know that the only way to go MMO is with a sword and a staff. Life is Magic incorporates some familiar JRPG fantasy themes with location-based play, allowing you to compete and cooperate with players around you to strengthen your region's digital counterpart. Obviously, this is going to favor urban players, but the concept is intriguing.

The location-based fantasy MMO that transforms the real world around you into a land of elemental magic, dungeons, and treasure. Team up with friends to battle Titans using a JRPG-style turn-based combat system, capture magic towers, and steal tons of loot. Follow the mighty wizard Isambard as he guides you on your quest to exert influence over the neighborhoods around you. Travel across America to find new treasure, spells, and weaponry before using it to beat the stuffing out of bigger and uglier monsters.

Gunner Free Space Defender

It's been a while since we've seen a good rail shooter. Gunner Space Defender has the tried and true "shoot everything that moves" style of play, with an interface that will be familiar to anyone who's played Wing Commander. Customizable primary and secondary weapons will keep things interesting. The full version of the game is two bucks - here's a demo for some free shooting.

Gunner: Free Space Defender is the first person 3D space shooter. Good old motto "Kill 'em all" is probably the best way to precisely describe the game's purpose. You are the gunner controlling a space turret and your objective is to protect friendly objects and destroy all attacking enemies. 12 types of Primary weapons and 6 types of Secondary weapons will help you to do the job. Bullets for Primary weapons are unlimited, but each one will cost you a score point. Secondary weapons are limited in ammo.

Lode Runner Classic

Android Police coverage: Get Your 8-Bit Fix On: Lode Runner Classic Is Now Out For Android

If you're not up on your gaming history, here's an opportunity to broaden your pop culture education. Lode Runner was one of the most innovative games of the 1980s. At its heart it's a simple platforming game with stealth elements. What helped cement the game in history was its level editor, one of the first ever. While the editor didn't make it into the mobile re-release, it's got a new zoom feature that should make the ancient graphics easier to see on your 720p screen.

Play the authentic Lode Runner this is the real deal. Lode Runner Classic combines the game play and all 150 levels of the award-winning Apple II original Lode Runner with graphics and features engineered for today's advanced smartphones. The game's frantic action takes place in maze-like, static levels, where a single player dodges enemies while running and climbing to reach and claim stacks of gold. No jumping is allowed. And shooting enemies is forbidden, but you can blast blocks to access lower platforms or trap pursuing enemies. Winding your way through ever-increasing levels of complexity makes for a superior challenge, but now you can choose to play any one of the 150 levels at any time.

Colosseum Defense

Colosseum Defense is an interesting mixture of top-down shooter and tower defense. If you can imagine Space Invaders with canons and orcs instead of tanks and UFOs, you're just about there. As you play, you'll unlock upgrades for your weapons and defenses. Make sure you've spent all your points before the boss fight every ten levels.

Don’t let the enemies breach the Castle walls. Colosseum Defense features a touch response gameplay mechanism that allows you to press and attack the area of your choosing. Defend against waves of enemy monsters by equipping up to 3 unique weapons at one time. Each weapon has its own unique abilities so choose the weapon that best fits your play style. Thwart any enemy siege by upgrading your Castle and its Defense Weapons. And when hope seems lost, unleash powerful area-of-effect Magic that will stun and damage all enemy units on the field.

Undead Slayer

This game looks good. It has hack-and-slash gameplay mechanics in a 3D plane. But more importantly, it keeps up the 6-month streak of Android Police game roundups that feature at least one title involving zombies.

Evil forces have swept across Ancient China. Battle your way through endless hordes of Undeads. Become the hero to restore the Empire. SLAY or be SLAIN. Simple & Easy to pick up gameplay. 90 Stages of Hack-and slash action. 20 Unique skills with dazzling effects.

Call of Mini: Brawlers

...and another for good measure. The Call of Mini franchise is branching out from its FPS roots into a side-scrolling beat-em-up, in which various bad blocky mofos hack, shoot, explode, and generally lay the smack-down on zombies. It's a decidedly 2D game, but the 3D graphics allow the cartoon gore of the title to shine through. You can kill all the zombies you want for free, with in-app purchases for more and better loot.

It’s a ZOMBIE OUTBREAK and the only cure is some good old-fashioned HEAD BUSTING! A radiation leak at a nuclear power plant has the locals acting strange, eating brains and suchlike. You’re not the type to believe in stories about zombies, but you’re not gonna let some shambling freak snack on your brain, either! Grab a gun (or chainsaw or rocket launcher) and take back what’s left of your town!

Ninja Volley 2013

Yup, you read that right. Ninja Volley takes the charming, simple gameplay of old 2D sports games like Super Dodgeball... and adds ninjas. Combos and super moves will allow you to unleash stealthy retribution upon your enemies, but unfortunately, multiplayer has not been added just yet. Pirates may or may not be coming in a future update.

Hundreds of cute little warriors are joining the Ninja Volley League, a worldwide network of super-secret volleyball duels meant to train reflexes and deception skills. Are YOUR reflexes sharp enough to compete?

  • Unique and addictive 2D volleyball gameplay.
  • Smooth learning curve, six increasingly challenging divisions.
  • Equipment and upgrade system to specialize your ninjas.
  • 8 Secret techniques to train and unleash.
  • Fully customize the appearance of your team.

Team Dragon Demo

Qualcomm really, really wants you to know that Snapdragon processors are good for gaming (and they are). They're so eager to get the word out that they created their own tech demo in the form of a Tekken-style 3D fighter. This one's just a demo (here's the full version), and of course you'll need a Qualcomm-powered device to get in on the action. Graphics and gameplay look pretty similar to Dreamcast-era Dead or Alive titles.

Join Team Dragon and fight for justice in cities against thugs, gangsters and insane criminal masterminds. Team Dragon delivers a vast range of new and enhanced gameplay features to deliver the ultimate experience as a Team Dragon Hero. Try the range of single and multiplayer game modes and fight crime on the best fighting action game on Android.

Cracking Sands

Android Police coverage: Polarbit Releases 'Cracking Sands', A Cartoon Racer With Guns, Lasers, And Other Destructive Crap–But It's Not As Exciting As It Sounds

A cutesy kart racing game set in a post-apocalyptic world? What could be better? Well, a lot of things, as it turns out. Cracking Sands comes from the respected developer Polarbit. But after a little play time, Android Police's Cameron Summerson found the game pretty, but lacking in personality or depth. It's the mobile game version of a vapid runway model, I suppose.

In a world ravaged by global warfare, small pockets of survivors scratch out a meagre existence, living off the remains of a shattered civilization. Society has been reduced to a tribal state, where rank and social standing is based on one thing and one thing only: death races. Cracking Sands is an action-packed racer featuring a band of merry lunatics driving small vehicles fitted with big guns. Your trigger finger will be tested just as much as your straight racing skills. Like the saying goes: if you can’t go around something (or someone), you go through them instead.

Old School Defense

Android Police coverage: [New Game] Old School Defense Is The Best Tower Defense Game Based On A Will Ferrell Movie You'll See Today

This is a tower defense game based on the 2003 Will Ferrell comedy Old School. Your argument is invalid.

Old School Defense is a tower defense game based on the famous Paramount movie. The Dean is up to his old tricks, this time attempting to ruin Lambda Epsilon Omega's party. He has recruited various Party Crashers that the Pledges must defend against. In this strategic tower defense game, place pledges to ward off the crashers and protect your party in 2 different modes, over 30+ different maps.

Abyss: The Wraiths of Eden

If you're craving some point-and-click adventure, Abyss is certainly the most visually impressive game in the genre to come to Android in a while. With a setting that's liberally inspired by Bioshock, gorgeous 2D backgrounds and 3D characters, it's definitely a looker. Too bad developer G5 uses the bait-and-switch - the download is free, but you'll have to pay to play the full game.

Low introductory price ends soon. Plunge into an endlessly enthralling sea adventure. Ready to strap on your oxygen mask? Famed underwater explorer Robert Marceau has disappeared under mysterious circumstances, and now his fiancée must descend to the gloomy depths of the ocean to find him. Venture into unknown and unsettling waters to investigate the sunken city of Eden, now controlled by demons, find hidden objects and confront eerie sea monsters in this heart-pounding quest to save a missing diver.

Moonlight Runner

It's your endless runner... after dark. There's nothing in Moonlight Runner that you haven't seen before, with the exception of the shadowy art direction that seems to be so popular among indie developers these days. There's also a pretty good classical guitar score, and the promise of a new level each week.

Get ready to blast off on an epic Running journey with Moon Light Runner. Collect the golden bugs, and avoid enemies to reach to your final destination. And enjoy the Spanish guitar :) Moon Light Runner has got what you need. Tap to jump and collect as many as possible of the golden bugs and try to discover the hidden paths for a higher score.

Super Knights

In this quirky puzzle game, you play a knight who likes nothing better than to swing around the castle like a medieval Spider-Man. That's about it, really - the challenge comes in using the physics engine to fling yourself to distant perches, so you can reach all the coins in the level. Here's the international version.

Welcome to the swingin’, flyin’, gem collectin' world of Super Knights, an amazing new scoring game. When kidnapped princesses are in distress... when dangerous dragons, scary ghosts and ugly witches need to be fought... when the world is in peril and you need a hero... who are you going to call? The Super Knights. In a crazy medieval world, control one of the famous Super Knights and fill your pockets with the gems scattered throughout each level. Use your grappling hook to swing around the anchor points in the scenery.

Gravity Alien Lite

For some reason, this platformer / physics game reminds me of The Forbidden Planet. It could be the utilitarian architecture, or it could be the blonde in the space suit. Either way, Gravity Alien uses the titular force as its primary gaming mechanic, allowing you to solve puzzles by modifying personal and objective gravity. The full version of the game costs just a buck.

Aliens from the Intergalactic Space Mafia have place energy draining devices in the planets controlled by their arch-rival’s known as the United Federation of Planets (UFP) The energy draining devices are making the local population of the planets go crazy. The UFP calls on one of their most trusted agents to infiltrate those planets and deactivate all the energy draining devices. Agent Sheela's only weapon is the ability to control her own gravity and the gravity of the planet.

14px

14px is platforming at its purest. You play a tiny blob, whose only concern is rescuing his (her? its?) fellow blobs, lost through a series of wormholes. The premise and graphics aren't much, but the controls are impressively tight for mobile, and plenty of environmental variables will keep you going along through 70 levels.

14px is a challenging, addictive, fast paced platformer.

Blast Defense (Free)

If Blast Defense looks a lot like Missile Command to you, well, that's intentional. It's going the Geometry Wars route to make simple but appealing graphics, and should be a nice stroll down memory lane for those who loved the arcade original. Use your turrets to shoot down incoming ships and missiles, making strategic use of their delayed blast radius.

In Blast Defense you play as the last line of defense against swarms of incoming enemies. Accuracy and strategy are a must to get the highest score and stay alive. Enemies are destroyed not by your shots, but by the resulting blasts. This is the free, ad-supported version of Blast Defense. Gameplay is not limited in any way. This game does not feature sound effects or music, but these may be added in a future update.

Trid

This game really couldn't be simpler: just tap the squares to match up to the guide, in a sort of real-time Simon Says. The challenge comes in getting through the stages as quickly as possible before the time runs out, and maximizing your spins for the most points. While the visuals are likewise very simple, there's a lot of flair in the animations.

In Trid you'll be recreating patterns as fast as you can. For every pattern you get a tiny bit of extra time in order to finish the next one, don't assume this is easy though, Trid has a trick up his sleeve that will drive you nuts.

• 5 Game modes

• Easy touch controls

• Online highscores and ranking

• Completely free, no in-app purchases

Quento

Quento is a unique puzzle/math game that might be a little beneath most adults, but should please kids enough for a spot on parents' phones. It's a cross between math problems and those word finder puzzles - solve the problem at the top using the grid at the bottom, advancing numbers or symbols by always tapping a square next to the last one. Other variables are introduced at higher levels.

Quento is a little puzzle game that makes simple math fun for all ages. It gives you the answer - but can you do the math? To play, just swipe from a number to a + or - and to another number again. Finger Army 1942

This is a Whack-a-Mole game set in WW2. No, they're not military moles - those appear to be human characters that, for some reason, spend all their time in holes in the ground. I'm also a little puzzled as to why you'd want to play Whack-A-Mole without the visceral pleasure of a mallet.

Sharpen those reflexes, crack your knuckles and ready your fingers. Grown using clippings from our own creative fingers, the Tin Planet lab brings to you an Army of giant mutant fingers. Yes folks, one frenzied finger wave after another, this formidable foe continues to attack your very own shores and the challenge is yours to stop them. Finger Army 1942 is a beautifully crafted, light hearted version the family favourite Whack'a'Mole and features the same fast, furious and finger numbing action as the original but with so much more...

Bacteria™ Free Edition

We featured Bacteria in our last game roundup, but this time it comes in a free demo.

Warning: This is a strangely addictive game retro classic-style arcade game for one or two players. It has freaky style classical music - be prepared to have it's tune fixed inside your head. The game starts off slowly, but by wave 4 the game is frantic, lots of chaotic action that keeps you on your toes. Inspired by multiple classic arcade games, the basic idea is to stop multiple waves of enemy bacteria from snatching your last few remaining cells that are located in the center of the screen. However, there are also some bacteria who are intent on destroying you - so you must destroy them first. If you succeed in lasting 60 seconds then you will be rewarded with a further cell to protect on the next wave, and so on...
