When Stargate Command launched on the Google Play Store a couple of weeks ago, there were shouts of "For cryin' out loud!" heard 'round the Android gaming community. If you had trouble installing the game thanks to an absurdly limited number of "compatible devices," then boot up your DHD and grab a handy Zat gun: it's now showing compatible with just about everything we can throw at it.

In Stargate Command you play as everyone's favorite snake infestation, Teal'c, as he defends the SGC from Goa'ulds, Jaffa, and Replicators. At least you can defend the base, after spending some cash on an in-app purchase. Otherwise you can walk around Stargate Command or driving a few golf balls through the Stargate (several billion miles - gotta be a record).

The base simulator and golf game are part of the free download, but in order to play Teal'c's Revenge, the only part that any Stargate fan might actually want to play, you'll have to shell out a buck. Not terrible, but I wish they'd mention somewhere in the description that the action-packed screenshots aren't part of the "free" game. Hey Dr. Jackson, what's ancient Goa'uld for "bait and switch"? The combat itself is a combination of Infinity Blade-style attacks and counters and turret shooting sections. Probably not the sweeping epic that Stargate fans are hoping for, but we haven't gotten much of anything since Universe got cancelled, so maybe this app will drive a few DVD sales.
