One thing that's always bothered me about making nandroid backups is having to keep them stored on my phone – and with the limited storage of the Nexus 4, this rings even more true. Thus, it's not uncommon for me to end up transferring backups to my PC in case I should need them again. Thanks to a new feature implemented into ROM Manager 5.5.0.8, that process just got a lot easier.

In a nutshell, this new feature enables a download server on your phone that can easily be accessed over Wi-Fi from your PC. Using it couldn't be easier, either – simply jump into the Manage Backups menu, hit the option to Download Backups, and that's basically it. Enter the IP address into the address bar of your favorite browser, and away you go.

If you don't already have ROM Manager, you can find it at the widget below.

Never had any success flashing a nandroid that had been copied to my pc and then back to the phone. Always got an MD5 checksum error. Maybe I was missing something?

IIRC there was an issue when you manually rename nandroids. Try changing the name back. If you want to rename I think you can do it via ROM manager - it makes sure the MD5 is correct.

      • Billy_Joe_Bob

Correct, but just to clarify. If your use ROM manager to rename the backup to anything, not just the original name, it will fix the MD5.

I just used SAMBA, but this is a nice feature to have built in

It would appear that with ROM Manager, if you want to do anything at all but flash the basic recovery, you have to buy the pro version. Lame. I can't even download backups without pro.

I was just about to post that so they could correct their article here. It doesn't mention that its only available after you spend the $5.99 they want for the premium version.

WOW you actually have to buy something? You are not serious, but are you? Sound like a great app and only $6. Pretty cheap if you ask me.

Criticizing someone who doesn't want to pay for a capability that used to be free makes you look like an impolite idiot. If you're so gullible that you love to throw money away, go for it, but don't insult others' aversion to being ripped off. There was a $5k iPhone app out there to prove how much money someone could fleece from you. Sounds like it would be right up your alley. Send me a check and I'll get it for you for $5,001 so you can prove what a superstar you are. Yeah, $6 is a jip. Send me another $100 to save a polar bear.

you could always take a lot of time and develop your own similar stuff

Complaining about free apps is so amazingly lame.

i'd assume is only supports clockworkmod backups?

  • TweetrGuy

Whats wrong with pulling the backup off your phone with a USB cable or using airDroid?

    • kool_dude

Because of the multi-user stuff in 4.2. Using USB, you can only see the user specific portion of the sdcard (ie, data/media/0/), but the clockworkmod folder is outside that area (it's in data/media). I don't know about AirDroid, that might work.

solid explorer, best 2 dollars ever spent!

      • GB

Noticed that too. So if i pay these 6$, how do I put it back from the PC to the phone without additional tools?

  • iDroid

I would rather pay than having to look at lame arse advertisements. $6 bucks is very reasonable IMO. My only problem is that jelly asop 4.2 based ROMs don't go well with CWM. They need to fix that fast.

i can't figure out how to use this (blush) shows it running but where do i go?
