  • Y

Wow! Or you could just pirate any of them for absolutely nothing now or anytime you want, because this is android. Just Google app name + apk for downloads.

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

Or you could stop being a giant douchebag, especially during the holidays.

      • Michael Smith

This. This right here. We need more of this.

      • http://twitter.com/punitvthakkar Punit Thakkar

Why not delete that douche's comment. And ban him or something. No, seriously.

        • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

If he becomes a repeat offender, I will. As is, it started a good discussion that will no longer make as much sense if I delete the head.

    • mechapathy

      What a douche.

    • GraveUypo

trust me, even taking the douche factor out of it, the inconvenience of doing that isn't worth the cents the game cost.

    • http://AndroidPolice.com/ Liam Spradlin

Wow! ... That is the kind of attitude that discourages developers from creating amazing apps for the Android platform. And without developers making great apps, there'd be nothing for you to pirate.

    • leo Finn

What a dick. I can understand pirating $500 software to try but seriously if your too cheap to dish out a couple of bucks for an app then maybe you should go to a dumb phone cause you probably can't afford that either. Go get a job you worthless sack.

    • Ed Baker

I buy the apps even when the free versions are not limited. Support the small, honest business man. Bought at least 5 of these in the past 2 days for my son's new tablet.
I noticed the popular apps that people support keep getting better. The ones people pirate and abuse, get no support or further development. Enjoy it, it won't get any better or be around very long.

    • aashish kumar

well if you can buy a smartphone, you can probably buy apps as well they dont cost much. Its about supporting the developers. I know apps can be pirated but I buy apps.

      • Forcemaker

Well, maybe the j*** didn't buy his phone but "pirated" it out of some poor (wo)man's pocket.

Excuse me, if an app costs $1 I do not think much about it - if the likelyhood that I could use it in the next 6-12 months ("gut feeling") is above 50% I do buy it. I might never buy them for their original price, but that way I do actively support the devs.

And yes, most people with smartphones/tablets do have THE money to do so.

BUT just think about all the people who DO NOT have the money. In Germany, many people have less than 5€ ( ~$6) to live from per day, and some had the luck in getting SOME smartphone and THEY cannot afford buying them. Actually we needed a "christmas collection". Something like "buy 1 and one is free - for charity" (hey, that's almost a poem ;-) )

    • heat361

Are you retarded, developers have families to feed also. Like Liam said this is why developers are discouraged to make beautiful apps for android. Disgusting!!

    • jeffrey beck

And you wonder why developers favor iOS. They don't do this as a hobby. Pay the devs and enjoy the rewards o more awesome apps.

      • armshouse

There's pirating on iOS too. A lot of people jailbreak their phones for that reason! Strange how someone won't go into a shop and steal from there, but when it comes to apps they have no guilty conscience, it's almost as if they feel the apps magically just made themselves. Muppets!

    • NexusKoolaid

      People..... Don't.Feed.The.Troll.

    • Simon Belmont

You are an imbecile. I have proudly bought dozens of apps because I find them useful in my day to day life or because I want to support a good developer.

This article has a list of heavily discounted apps and games and you bring up piracy, especially around the holidays. Bad form.

    • ernik

people come on, this man just trying to badmouth android because of ability to sideload app.

just to let you know, ios has bigger piracy issue. yet most people seems blind.
for hacker, it's easier to pirate ios app, unlike android which has huge range of device and compatibility.

      • http://codytoombs.wordpress.com/ Cody Toombs

The two are pretty similar and there are tradeoffs on both. On iOS, you have to use a jailbroken device where Android already allows for sideloading. However, there are several methods and security measures that Android app developers can use to make their apps significantly more annoying to crack, but cracking copy protection on iOS apps has been reported as being so trivial that it's almost possible to write an automated patcher app that does all of the work.

...six of one, half dozen of the other...

This really makes me wish the Play Store accepted PayPal.

    • C0080900V

You can purchase and nab Google Play e-GiftCards digitally from Walmart via PayPal, nab one while you can and Walmart will e-mail you your code to redeem on Google Play.

Ofc Walmart will post your code via e-mail and within day, usually within a few hours or faster than that. Sometimes it's a speedy delivery, sometimes it takes the whole day, just varies.

      • http://profiles.google.com/b.taylor3000 brad taylor

Play cards don't work in Canada (I've tried a few times) but thanks anyways. If there is a work around for this then I'll give it a try. Tunnel Bear didn't seem to do anything.

        • http://www.facebook.com/armando.rodriguez Armando Rodriguez Saavedra

Use a vpn to create a US Google Wallet account and enter the gift card from there

          • spacekobra

If that doesn't work would somebody be willing to by the code off me? I don't want to waste 20$.

    • Ryan Stuckmaier

On your Paypal account click "Merchant Services" then "Access your money instantly: Paypal Debit Card"

Add the Debit card to your Play Store account and there you go.

      • http://profiles.google.com/b.taylor3000 brad taylor

"Sorry, you are not eligible for a Paypal Mastercard at this time"

        So close, yet so far.

        • makapav

Go to eBay and buy a Play Store gift card. Use that with your account. Then use TunnelBear to get US/UK VPN to get products your region is blocked out of :-)

      • http://kawangeek.com/ EddyGeek

cant find "Access your money instantly: Paypal Debit Card".. maybe not supported .

    • Tito73

      Prepaid credit card!

  • Chris Bozsik

Wow, Chaos Rings and Chaos Rings Omega at reasonable prices. That's what they should always be at.

  • thedoginthewok

The link to ReNotify+ is broken. It's missing an 's' at the end of the link that finishes the word 'plus'.

Just spotted Amnesia Chapters 1 and 2 are reduced to $0.99, from $1.60 I think.

  • Kunoichi

It's looking like no one should really bother with the games since they can't be seem to keep them updated or give them all the features other platforms have.

Bejeweled 2, Sims 3, monopoly, need 4 speed shift, and etc., not on sale or supported on nexus 10. Only a very few of their top Sellers are on sale or updated for current tablets.

System tuner pro, effing amazing app, everything from task manager, build prop editor (made easy too!) Voltage/cpu set, memory limits, clear cache on boot, set cpu/gpu on boot, force both cpus, oom settings, system app management with backups, permissions editing, bulk backups, restores, freeze apps, etc. Does everything a rooted phone needs to really be woken up.
Also check out seeder, its a free app that works for any device, its an entropy creator. Essentially it makes processes much faster by providing cache easier. Biggest improvement is wake screen times and home button times. Its instant.
I'm willing to bet most of the launchers have something going on too, nova and apex have come out with some new stuff recently I believe.

What about Small Call? This is the app that Google said couldn't be done. It reduces incoming calls to a small notification allowing users to not be interrupted while in other open apps. I know it came out late but it is definitely the break through app of the year.

    • http://codytoombs.wordpress.com/ Cody Toombs

This is a list of apps that are going on sale for the holidays. Small Call was already $0.99 and there's no sign that they are just about to raise the price as if this were a launch sale.

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

Small Call will be in the next app roundup. This is just holiday sales.

You forgot Superbrothers Sword and Sworcery for 1.99 down from 4.99

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

It launched at $1.99 and has been at that price ever since. There's no indication it's even a sale. Plus, launch sales, even if this is one, are not related to the holidays, so that's why we haven't added it to the list.

Thanks for this great list. i have been looking all over for something like this!

Yeah. That's when I picked up DosBox Turbo.

Great app, that. I use it all the time to play my old school DOS games.

Wish I hadn't bought some of these earlier!

Someone needs to make a site where we get altered when app we want goes on sale or is free. Appshopper does it for iTunes. I had hoped the wish list on the play store would do something but it has no functionality. Mother reason I might switch to iOS.. already downloaded dozens of paid apps I'd need all for free

    • Simon Belmont

They already make an app like AppShopper: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.tsapps.appsales . Very nice. I've found a ton of sales with that app.

Have fun switching to iOS. They just banned AppShopper from the App Store.

    • http://codytoombs.wordpress.com/ Cody Toombs

It's a great system, alerts you to price changes and version updates. The warning that goes with it, you can be overloaded with update notifications if the apps you choose are updated frequently and never seem to go on sale.

I've been using it to keep tabs on a couple of overpriced apps (Next Launcher, Chameleon before it's price drop, etc...) and a few apps that I don't keep installed but I want to know if they add certain features that will make them useful again.

DigiCal is a nice holo calendar replacement app, on sale from $4 to $1,sorry no link as I'm on mobile, just a heads up.

    • http://codytoombs.wordpress.com/ Cody Toombs

      Here it is:

Here's a tip, if you want to get the url from the Play Store, just hit the share button (the 3 dots with lines connecting 'em) and anything you pick will be sent the app's url. I'm not sure if it's available in all versions of Android, but anything recent should support copying the url directly to the clipboard.

  • Tyler

Now time to figure out which of these will look good on a nexus 10's awesome screen.

  • http://codytoombs.wordpress.com/ Cody Toombs

Here are a few more to add to the list...

    n7player Unlocker - $1.99 from $2.99 - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.n7mobile.nplayerunlocker

    NRG Player Unlocker - $0.99 from $3.45 - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mrgreensoft.nrg.player.unlocker

    GPS Status Pro (key) - $1.84 from $3.62 - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpstoolbox.pro

    SlideIT Keyboard - $1.99 from $3.99 - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dasur.slideit

Also, a little request. Please add apps to the end of each group instead of mixing them in. When they are mixed in, it means reading through the entire list to find additions instead of checking the end of each group.

    • Forcemaker

Agree, and/or please be sure to add the "added 12/xx" suffix to each entry, as it makes it easier to find the new stuff.

Oceanhouse medis has a lot of "books" for children for sale (Dr Seuss, The cat in the hat, Little Critter), selling for 40-80% off original price.

How disappointing I missed Office Pro for .99 now it's up to $9.99. You would think they would let you have the sale price through Christmas day at least :(.

    • KRS_Won

You can get it through Amazon for free today.

      • GRITSinMS

Thanks! I had to get the amazon app app since I have a galaxy tab but I was able to get it. And free is even better than .99!

  • primalxconvoy

I was tempted to download Plants vs Zombies until I read in the reviews that the Android version has less content then even the ios or ps3 version. Imo, that makes it worthless and demanding of a free price, not 99 (currency).

Got the wife a Nexus 7 for Christmas... went to download Officesuite Pro 6 for her yesterday for $1 and it was back up to $10... Too late for me... (well, really her...)

    • http://codytoombs.wordpress.com/ Cody Toombs

I'm finding that to be a really annoying trend. There's 2-3 apps I was indecisive about and they flipped back to original price on the 24th or super early on the 25th. Since most people won't get their new Android devices or their Google Play gift cards until early to mid-day on the 25th, I think a few developers wanted to get a small boost in download numbers so that they would stand a better chance to be seen when people went looking in the middle of Christmas Day. I'm not sure I blame them, but I would have liked to know they planned to end their sales a bit early. Anything that I already automatically get while it was on sale isn't going to pull me now that it's returned to full price.

      • Forcemaker

I think they should give us a hint like "only until ..." - if they had (or had not) the success they were expecting, they could make an "extended sale".

"Come on, devs/companies, we need some time to tell our friends about that one georgous app that we were talking about the last week, and you just remove them when our friends/family are just about coming home?" (just a scenario in ma' head) "I thought that sort of 'social advertising' was what you were looking for, in the future?"
