Man, Google. You just can't stop screwing with Christmas, can you? First you cancel December, and now this? In a very real and totally serious bug report over on Google Code, one user is reporting a serious flaw in Android: If you use the Emoji keyboard to enter a Santa face, he looks decidedly unhappy. Emotionless at best. But, as everyone knows, "Santa should be jolly."

Okay, yes, so Google did fix that Calendar problem, and even went out of its way to build a special Santa Tracker, after Norad hired that other search engine. So, perhaps Mountain View isn't out to Grinch and Scrooge us out of a happy holiday season. Still, this is a very serious, time-sensitive issue and we trust that the company's engineers are working around the clock to resolve the problem.

Stuff like this is what makes Android Android. This community is so unique!

You're right. I mean, sure, it's two days til Christmas and all my friends and family are out having fun and enjoying each other's company while I'm staying close to a computer so that I can keep an eye on the news cycle because someone has to. And yes, even though it's boring, I can't (or at least won't) walk away until later in the evening because I feel a responsibility to our readers. And, I admit, I had a bit of fun with a light-hearted article to fill the time while I wait until the end of the day when I can go do what everyone else is already having fun doing.

But, still. You're right. I was completely wrong to post an article that harms no one, is a little entertaining, and helps me to fill my time and get paid while giving other readers something to joke about over their holiday dinners.

I will take your feelings into account next time.

Don't take him seriously, without trolls like him, the Internet would be a too good place to be ;)

Okay, I know it's included in stock ROM's, but I think the company who makes iWNN IME should be fixing this. It isn't an Android issue, but a keyboard language issue. iWNN is made by OMRON SOFTWARE Co., Ltd. who could probably fix it.

  • Gloria Tortorella

    Serious Santa is serious.

Maybe it's fixed in Jolly Bean, LOL :)

So you'd have choose the keyboard and type the Santa face for your Christmas to be ruined?

Me thinks the solution should be obvious. ;)

  • Stephen Long

I didn't even know what the Emoji keyboard was... so had to Google it.

Turns out, I'm still stuck on 4.1.1 with Sprint Galaxy Nexus. That makes me far sadder than a sad Santa.

    • Patrik

Believe me 4.2 is buggy piece of crap!

  • http://twitter.com/kev_martin Kev Martin

He doesn't look sad, he looks pensive. Which seems appropriate to me - you know, given that he doesn't exist and all.

    • spydie

      who said he doesn't?????

Animations: This technique is similar to your computer. It may look great but sucks all your battery charge. So, turn it '''off'''' for long life phone.

and something on finding wakelocks would be helpful also. nice blog though.
