According to a photo taken of an internal Sprint page by an anonymous tipster, the EVO 4G LTE is finally scheduled to receive an update to Android 4.1 - starting tomorrow.

Now, we should clarify two things. First, this tipster isn't one we have particular reason to consider reliable, though there is a link to DARA in the leaked image, an internal Sprint web portal. It's certainly a real possibility that this is from inside Sprint. The wording and formatting of the page also looks legit to us. Second on the clarification list, there have been previous "leaks" from Sprint suggesting the EVO would be receiving 4.1 on X date, that have later turned out to be false. So, as always, take it with a grain of salt. Without further ado, the image:

According to the page, the update includes just what you'd expect - all the Android 4.1 trimmings (Google Now, expandable notifications, etc.), along with Sense 4+, which brings improved front-facing camera performance and a new gallery app [which I hate]. Wi-Fi authentication, personalized ringtones, and various other areas have seen bug fixes as well. The new version number is 3.15.651.16 - which is in line with HTC's Jelly Bean update version numbering scheme used with the One X.

Again, while we can't be certain this is the real McCoy, we're leaning on "legit" here - the timing's right, and nothing seems particularly amiss.

Thanks, Anon!

I'd be really happy if this was true, but I'm not counting on it. HTC has been dead silent on upgrades for the EVO. This is definitely my last HTC, and probably my last non Nexus. My wife has the S3, and got updated way before me, even though her phone came out after mine. Pretty lame! I'm rooted and running MeanRom, so I'll have to wait an additional day or two, but the sooner the process starts the better.

This is my last HTC evo 4g lte. They don't update it fast enough so I will say it's the last. Then when I switch, I will complain about the next phone and manufacturer. But it's America so have fun with that.
I want to get the note 2. But if this update is true, I might be able to hold off till the price drops. But again, this is America, where bigger is better and "I want it now" reigns supreme.

  • yankeesusa

The funny thing is that when I had htc and the evo htc was the best at getting updates out. Now the tables have turned and its samsung. Thats why I jumped ship from the evo3d and didn't upgrade till now. Got the note 2. I may have gotten the dna but htc screwed it up with exclusive crap.

  • jason

I just updated my EVO LTE about an hour ago to the new jellybean

  • Jillian Donnert

Don't update!!! I can't even see the letters on the keyboard right now. I'm not a complainer but they screwed up the keyboard so bad! It's not useable point blank! And they moved the numbers button to the left, why? That's the number one reason I've stayed with HTC!! I want nothing more then to down grade!

    • G.Gecko

Mine did the same thing. Got it to work by flipping to landscape and then back. Now keyboard works great.

  • G.Gecko

Woohoo! Working well, a bit sluggish at first but picking up speed fast. Google Now is awesome! Note if your keyboard is messed up, try flipping your phone into landscape mode (while having the keyboard up) and then back to portrait mode. This fixed the keyboard bug for me. Way to go anon tipster and AndroidPolice!
