Still using Yahoo! Mail, eh? Good news! The app just hit v2, which, like most full-version releases, brings all sorts of new goodies. First, and probably the most noticeable, is that the app is now called Y! Mail and it has a brand spankin' new UI. Don't tell GMail I said this, but I actually think Y! Mail's new look is pretty decent.

Aside from the pretty new interface, version 2 also brings increased stability, more reliable push notifications, better battery performance, and better security, as it now has SSL activated by default.

Good stuff for those who are still attached to Yahoo! for whatever reason -- hit the widget to grab it.

yay, now my junk/internet email will look pretty when i go to clear the folders.

Perfect timing. Now that Google Apps no longer offers a free version, I'm pretty sure a lot of our customers (small businesses) will be happy with Yahoo's Business Email Plans - http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/email/compare-plans - compared to the higher pricing of Google Apps.

We're definitely not comparing the features of Google Apps to Yahoo's email offering and we definitely will still recommend Google Apps; but for those that just need an email system and nothing else, it's hard to ignore Yahoo's solid offering now!

Nice enough that I'll stop using K-9 (via IMAP) for now. Wish they'd ease of the purple, but ... oh well!

Agreed. We get an ICS/JB style UI but purple not blue....

I like how the guy who wrote this article (as well as some of the responses) make it sound like NOBODY uses Yahoo mail anymore.. I use Yahoo mail because I always have, and because the newest Yahoo Mail web interface works better than Google's. Nothing to be ashamed of, it's just e-mail.

I like how the guy who wrote the e-mail implies that it's somehow "weird" to still use Yahoo mail. It's just e-mail, and it works just fine.

Getting better :) Like the new UI...

    Cheers...

No ads is worthy of a call out. Timing is ridiculous as I just uninstalled the old version this morning. I was fed up and moved to the Note 2's native client. Now I'm back!

Yahoo! Mail is currently the most used email provider in the world. You can decide what exactly that means, but the tone of this article is ridiculous. Most people reading this either have a Yahoo! Mail account or know plenty more who do. I expect better from Android Police than to engage in childish mudslinging.

Its a very nice update, the only minor annoyance for me is that they've changed the notification icon and it looks very much like the gmail one now.

I'd be happy if I could just get notifications. They're not pushing consistently for me. They work for one or two but then stop working for hours.

Isn't "Yahoo" synonymous with "spam" these days? Since that's all that ever showed up in my Yahoo email, I turned into a junk mail account for Facebook, Twitter, and comment section logins.

If GMAIL had been around 5 or ten years ago, guess what? They would have gotten spam as well. I have had yahoo forever and as the SPAM technology has evolved so has their filters. I will say this: Yahoo spam filters could not be any better. Maybe 1 in 1000 makes it through. 99.9% show up in my junk mail folder. So I say don't judge them now based on the technology they (and everyone else) used 5 years ago.

ever since the update, my phone vibrates every time i get an email. i cannot set notification alerts.

It's so much better than the shame of Microsoft's Hotmail app.

  • whateva

wow, the new yahoo mail interface is really nice. by the far better than gmail now! simple and elegant, it's a pleasure to write emails again...

I have both yahoo mail and gmail and use yahoo mail as my primary interface, even for my gmail. It's much better than gmail's interface. Having said that, I use the stock Android email client for my yahoo mail on my phone as it's much faster than the Yahoo mail client and doesn't bog it down.
