And the tip of the day, month, year goes to... Syko Pompos! Here I was, sitting on the couch, trying to order the 16GB Nexus 4 for the last 4 hours. That's a lot of hours practically wasted. And I'm not even talking about the first batch which resulted in exactly the same failures and poor experience.

Turns out, there's a little trick you can use to defeat these errors and finally place your Nexus order. Sure, it'll arrive weeks or maybe even months later, but at least you'll reserve your place in line and stop ripping out hair from places where you might still need it.

Within 30 seconds of using this tip, I finally saw the precious Review your purchase dialog and got my confirmation:

Hallelujah! I can finally relax.

The Tip

Note: This tip assumes that you've already added a product to your cart but can't complete the checkout process due to the "Due to high demand, your order could not be processed. Please try again later" error. If the Nexus is really sold out in your country, the tip is not going to help.

Now for the tip. It's actually very simple. And Google will probably hate it and possibly prevent it from working in the future because it creates a lot of extra requests and load on their backend. But we're talking about something sacred here - the latest Nexus. And that. Means. War.

The secret sauce is the Proceed button that gets grayed out when you press it doesn't actually disable itself. It only looks like it does, but in reality, you can click it again. And again. In fact, to make it even more fool-proof, you can TAB enough times to place the keyboard focus on the button (you'll see this orange glow in Chrome, for example) and then hold the Enter button like you've never held anything before:

And better yet, someone has already automated it. Kick back, relax, and watch your browser do all the work. This will be your reward:

Thanks again, Syko Pompos!

lol @ hold the Enter button like you've never held anything before

  • Moutonfr

No wonder their servers are overloaded.

    • Cherokee4Life

at least their website doesn't go down like other people on a launch day for new products

      • Scott

What do you mean "like other people"? Their Google Wallet system did exactly that when the phone was first put up for sale. Where have you been?

        • Cherokee4Life

okay my fault, i didn't explain it clearly. What I meant to say was at least before certain items are released Google doesn't intentionally take down it store webpage in anticipation for the new products. They are able to do it inline.

      • nhizzat

Apple managed to launch 3 new devices without their website breaking down. Google needs to get on their level.

  • spydie

    yep, that works

  • fajitatt

RIGHT ON! 16GB Nexus 4 ordered! Thanks so much!!!

Google, the only company where nerds write scripts to check out properly by automatizing a button press.

    • ssj4Gogeta

Feels right at home, doesn't it? :D

    • r3drox

Would Apple buyers have ever come up with something like this? I wonder. lol

This hack posted by some great person is a bit easier to implement (though still requires Javascript Console) and worked for me in about 10 seconds at about 5pm. http://pastebin.com/PNZtXGGq

Is there a way to know when the shipment will proceed? I'm hoping to snag one nexus4 but I am pressed with time there is a small window I can afford to get the package...

    • http://profiles.google.com/wisefire935 Joshua Wise

I got mine in the first batch.. Didn't have to sign, they left it at my door.. Didn't even ring the bell.

  • Ben Baranovsky

I managed to order one, however the bumper is out of stock and I was charged $13.99 for two-day shipping. If they don't refund that shipping I am going to be one very unhappy camper.

    • rob

Why should they refund it? They are still shipping it two-day... do you think UPS just says "hey you guys can ship free, we see y'all had some issues..." - get over your sense of entitlement

      • Ben Baranovsky

They have refunded shipping for cases like this in the past. The fact that I am paying for two-day shipping but really it's going to ship in two to three weeks doesn't sit right with me. I applaud Google's choices in the past and hope they decide to do something similar in this case. You don't have to be so self-righteous.

      • JAD88

if you pay for two day shipping you shouldn't have to wait 2-3 weeks. whats the point of two day shipping if it's not shipped in two days? they refunded the shipping cost to people who ordered on the 13th and had to wait weeks for it ship, and they should do the same this time.

        • needa

two day ship is the amount of time it will take ups to get the package to you once they receive it. what urks me... is they tax the shipping.

          • JAD88

yeah, im used to how amazon ships things. Every time i order something it ships in less than 24hrs, so i actually get it in 2 days. Hopefully Google can pull that off eventually, or at least give you an option other than 2 day shipping.

  • Syko Pompos

I was talking to another guy and he was able to get the checkout pop up and he was saying he just kept clicking and refreshing then I noticed that the grey box could be pressed again and gave a response so I just kept clicking till I got the pop up then told other people to do it and it worked

  • http://www.theandroidsite.com benmarvin

Cool. Now I only need the couple hundred dollars and I can order one! ;)

  • Magneira

After that last screenshot when the buy button gets kind of a greysh blue, what should I do? Just wait? Cause mine can't see to pass that...

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

No, keep clicking the gray button. It still submits.

      • Magneira

Tks tks i will try and get back to you!

  • JG

Awesome! Now that I know I can order a phone.... I just got to see if T-Mo's service around here is any good... Anyone have a spare T-Mo burner I can borrow for a week or so to check out signal strength?

    • needa

it will also work on atts hspa+ through smarttalk for 50 a month.

      • JG

Cool, thanks. Though I'm assuming you mean Straight Talk - at least that's what came up when I tried to Google Smart Talk. Are you familiar with it? Couple questions...

1.) Data wise - old school definition or new school for "unlimited"? Any throttling? Or will I get yelled at & called a data hog and have my account terminated if I don't keep my use under 5GB/month? Also, does the plan include tethering?

2.) Is it a flat $45/month, or is it $45+random taxes & fees the government has Verizon et al add on? Any kind of family share discount?

3.) Do you know if they might have any tablet friendly plans? Like if I get an extra SIM card, could I put it into my 3G N7 and just use the unlimited data part of the plan, never touching the voice or text "streams"? Would be nice to be able to get the tablet online with an unlimited connection by itself.

        • needa

yes.,.. straight talk. my bad. i am not using it yet. still on att but i have researched the hell out of it. waiting on my nexus to get here.

          1. new school. after 2-5 gb, depending on what network you are using, you will be throttled. so its best to be on att if at all possible. as the throttle puts you on 3g. throtting is not something i worry about as my usage is much lower.

          2. it comes out to 50 bucks. 49 and change after taxes.

          3. dunno and dont think so. but i would imagine that is coming. tethering...you will be able to do anything att or tmobile allows for you to do if you are on their plans.

also, i saw a commercial last night on net10wireless.com it seems like i remember seeing a tablet friendly plan on there. its the same as straighttalk except you get the 45 buck rate if you autopay. otherwise its 50 a month plus taxes.

        • james

          http://www.pda.net free tethering for everyone

  • Ash

This so works! Thanks to a colleague, i snagged one! And shame on you Google on making us work that hard to get one

  • Gustav

ok guys, if you keep getting errors when pressing "buy" after the payment method window, try changing the google account!
it worked for me and for a friend!

  • NJTechReviewsJake

    Works like a charm!

  • Christopher Di Biase

Wow, no wonder their site never recovered this afternoon during the evening commute home. The trick that worked well for me was actually being patient and trying a few times every 15-20 minutes.

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

I spent 4 hours doing that but it didn't work. See my reply to FrillArtist for more.

      • needa

i fought the play store for 2:45 non stop until @jlm posted the keyboard trick. 500 clicks is childs play. at least they pretty much managed to keep it in the cart after the first 45 minutes. it was a nightmare. click the cart. click proceed. click the cart click proceed. oops. it left the cart. backspace backspace. add to cart.........

  • FrillArtist

Great. Now their servers will be even more overloaded than before. You couldn't just keep it to yourself. All for what? A few page hits.

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

And the way I look at it is I spent 4 hours constantly refreshing pages (probably over 500 times total), clicking Proceed once, and repeating. Instead, a little spike in traffic can actually help get through and stop this ridiculous process. More people will get their orders in, thus alleviating the overall load.

So, hey, maybe I'll also save some people hours of their time. That's worth more than some server time in my eyes. And my time is certainly worth more than that, to me.

It's our job to report on things that serve a greater purpose instead of keeping them quiet just because it's convenient to some.

  • Sven79

I finally got the email that mine has shipped! I ordered it on the 13th though.

  • Jav11 .

this is what exactly what i did,and finally proceeded my order,...wheeew! now i'm kickin back and can't wait to hold that all glass built..;)

  • zack

I soory that i didnt see it yesterday

  • Mario

Is this only happening with the N4? I ordered my N7 3G last week with absolutely no issues, and I got it 3 days later. Guess the demand is much higher for the N4.

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

Yeah, this only happened when the new Nexus 4 and 10 went live, and then again when Nexus 4 became available one more time.

  • sam

Or you just wait until the next day, and it works just fine.

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

Except your delivery date is now several weeks behind those who ordered yesterday.

  • Dan

    Can't. Stop. Laughing.

The hack is funny. Artem's description is hilarious.
