I'll be the first to admit that I find most live wallpapers pretty pointless. It's not that I don't appreciate the time and effort that goes into making them - it's just that I like to keep things clean, and all the background movement just seems so impractical. However, every once in a while a LWP shows up that makes me second guess my stock wallpaper. This is one of those times.

With what may possibly be the most cut-and-dry app name in the Play Store, this wall is simply called 3D Image Live Wallpaper. And that's exactly what it does: brings the third dimension alive for basically any image you can currently set as your wallpaper. The thing I like most about it is that it's a subtle change - you won't find any crazy floating objects and constant movement with this one. Just a simple wallpaper that gives your background image some pretty incredible depth.

3D Image Live Wallpaper will set you back $1.60 in the Play Store, and you can find it by hitting the Play icon below.

Looks pretty cool. But to be more accurate, the background itself isn't 3D. It still remains a flat surface. The wallpaper simulates distance between the icons and that surface.

    • LewisSD

      and it looks amazing!

    • defred34

Try telling that to him.... (the rather brilliant author of this article of course)

My question is : Does it take a lot of battery ? It's pretty neat, but I don't want to sacrifice much for visuals only.

    • defred34

Any live wallpaper that says it doesn't eat up more battery than normal is lying through their teeth. Moral of story....want good battery life, stay away from LWP

      • http://twitter.com/fzammetti Frank W. Zammetti

Yes, they all eat up some battery... but, there are some that eat up so little that you won't mind them. The galaxy pack for example has made practically no difference on my S3 and N7, and they are very nice, subtle backgrounds, so you get something that looks cool without being overbearing. I bought this one and so far dig it a lot, although it's way too soon to know if its impact on battery is like the galaxy pack or like some of the bad offenders I've seen in the past.

  • Joseph Cascio

I'm never willing to deal out money for a live wallpaper. They're cool for 2 minutes then you realize "Hey, I spent money to have bad battery and sometimes laggy performance." Granted the devs do deserve it for there efforts. Live wallpapers are just not for me.

    • JG

I agree... But it is kind of cool... I might be willing to make an exception for this one.... Though me from 5min from now may have something different to say about it :)

  • RocketScience11

"impractical", not "unpractical". Sorry... ocd... i couldn't stop it...

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Cameron Summerson

Actually, either way works. But I agree - impractical does sound better. My brain wasn't functioning properly at the time. ;)

      • RocketScience11

Huh. I'd never heard it that way before. English is such an unpractical language. :P

      • defred34

unpractical is a non-word. lets not go there please.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1849765376 Jordan Rushing

Actually unpractical is a word. Did you even do any research before you made that baseless comment? Obviously not.

          • LewisSD

the guy is writing a comment on AP, not submitting a thesis to a scientific journal. I was unaware research was required to post a comment lol.

          • GreenyO

If you want to write something is untrue, make sure that it is REALLY untrue...

  • Mike Loomis

The only live wallpaper I ever found useful was Typography Wall, which I found from a review here at AP. I just upgraded my phone and IT IS GONE! Nowhere to be found. If anyone can help find it or a suitable replacement that looks just as good I will be incredibly grateful.

  • Goldenpins

On the GNexus the included wallpaper pack cut off at the edge creating a black bar.

I might just have to try this out.

  • dylan84

I rarely use live wallpapers. But I've been hooked on Nexus 4 Dot Live Wallpaper. It's so minimalist and beautiful.

  • defred34

The only LWP I got buy before is Metaballs HD. Tried Ocean HD before also, but too boring it is and got some refunds.

  • LewisSD

I spend more on a cup of coffee at starbucks so I didn't hesitate to buy this one. Just thought everyone should know tho that it works great on my SGS3 but my xoom running 4.2 just gets the blank white screen some reviewers are talking about.

  • xsirxx

Cant purchase for my Photon Q :(

  • Dan

SOLD! That's freakin' cool and $1.60 is chump change.

  • http://www.cypher-sec.org thecolor

yeah, it's meh. Can't leave a review on play since I've uninstalled it for a refund. But, it basically just moves the image left, right, up and down. It looks a "little" better when you have actual icons or widgets on the desktop, but (as mentioned above) I prefer a clean desktop and when only having an image on the screen (no icons or widgets) it's "meh".

  • Mario

No wallpaper should be worth that much. You can get quality apps and games for less. The most I would pay for a lwp is 50 cents.

  • http://www.facebook.com/Towerr Christian Wagner Jr

Tried it and refunded..I didnt get this effect either..it just sort of scrolled the backgroun wallpaper for me :(

  • Ronin

The next project from this company should be having the same effect, but with a PhotoSphere image, so you could just turn all around and view the thing.

  • Avatar Ng

That sure looks cool with gyroscope-controlled.
