Apps

Amazon Cloud Drive Photos

Well it's about time. Now that both Google and Dropbox provide photo syncing to their respective cloud storage platforms, Amazon is joining the club as well. Unfortunately they've done so with a separate app: you can't actually access your Cloud Drive from the app, except for photos. Newly-taken photos will be automatically posted to your Cloud Drive, as expected.

--

Jottacloud

There's not much more that we can say about cloud syncing apps. Jottacloud (formerly just Jotta) has finally gotten around to creating an Android app, and it has the familiar 5GB of free storage and automatic syncing. The contact sync could be useful if you're coming from iOS, but the lack of automatic photo uploads means I'll be sticking with Dropbox for the time being.

Audio Glow Music Visualizer

Android Police coverage: [New App] Audio Glow Brings Highly Customizable, Highly Beautiful Music Visualization To Android

Holy crap, this music player is beautiful. Well, that's not strictly accurate -Audio Glow is a "Visualizer," like the old plugins for Windows Media Player and WinAmp. Play music on your standard player (Google Music, Amazon, Rdio, Poweramp, Apollo, and various others are supported) and watch the old-school frequency bars go crazy with splashy effects. Groovy, man. The app is free, but you can add a live wallpaper option for a dollar - download the add-on here.

--

Music visualization with style. This music visualizer brings your music to the screen in an explosion of bright colors.

• Visualizes whatever music or sound is coming from any other app.
• Dramatically displays artist name and track name for most popular music players.
• Extensive color and shape options to tweak
• Save your settings as themes, and use the included Tasker / Locale plugin to load any of your saved themes in response to almost anything you can imagine.
• Glistening particles keep the screen alive with motion even when music isn't playing (can be turned off)
• Shortcut button to link to your favorite music player, as well as built-in play/pause/last/next controls for whichever music player app is running.

NOTE: To Galaxy S/S2/S3, Galaxy Note 1/2, and Galaxy Nexus owners: I have received several reports of the visualizer showing a flatline with most music players, sporadically. I have been looking for a solution, but it is beginning to look like a hardware issue. From looking at reviews of other music visualization apps, it seems to me to be a universal problem for these phones.

Retune

Mix-and-match computer users, who combine Macs with Android phones or tablets, are surprisingly common (there might even be one or two here at Android Police). For those crazy cats, and anyone who uses iTunes on Windows as well (you poor fools), Retune lets you control playback and music selection from your phone or tablet. While you can select any song or playlist in your library, it's for remote control only - you won't be able to stream audio to your device.

--

Retune is an iTunes remote, it allows you to use your Android device to control iTunes. Use your Android device to change songs, tv shows, movies from anywhere in your house.

Features Include:
* Ability to toggle playing/pause, seek in a song, skip forward and backward, set shuffle, and set repeat.

The world's sharpest sharpshooter. Look at him shoot.
Through the holes in four doughnuts. Two hairs on a worm.
And the knees of three birds without making them squirm."

Grimm's Snow White

Ah, pop-up books. You remember - the thick kid's books with cardboard sections that expanded on every page? While some children's reading apps are content to leave old stories as they are, Grimm's Snow White brings the pop-up tradition to the 21st century with 3D elements that pop out of the story. There are interactive elements as well, like a hunt for the seven dwarves. Just put your tablet in a case before handing it to your tike, OK?

--

A classic fairy tale magically brought to life with amazing 3D pop-up scenes. Story Toys’ award-winning series of interactive pop-up fairy tale books for children comes to Android with a brand new story, the timeless classic Grimm’s Snow White.  Kids will love this classic fairy tale book, full of action, adventure, surprises and suspense. Our books deliver a highly interactive reading experience for children, with pop-up scenes featuring 3D games and puzzles that draw them ever deeper into the story. Read the story yourself, or listen to our narrated soundtrack voiced by professional actors.

Goodnight Moon by Loud Crow

If Doctor Seuss is too awesome for you, go with the decidedly tamer Goodnight Moon, with similar narration and a few interactive elements as well. According to the app description, it's on sale for just a single greenback at the moment.

--

Goodnight noises everywhere... 65 years ago, Margaret Wise Brown and Clement Hurd created one of the most beloved bedtime books of all time. Now, the best-selling children’s classic Goodnight Moon has been beautifully re-imagined as an interactive app designed for your smartphone and tablet. Children, parents and fans of this charming storybook will be delighted by the crackling fire, soothing piano music and sing-song narration as they help the little bunny say goodnight to all the lovely familiar things in the “great green room”. With a touch, swipe or tilt of the screen little fingers send the cow jumping over the moon and make the three little bears chatter and laugh in their chairs. Find and follow the tiny mouse playing hide and seek and discover hidden surprises on every page. Empty the bowl of mush, make the mittens wave good-bye and hear the old woman whispering hush while shooting stars, purring kittens and slowly fading light help your own little bunnies drift off to sleep.

PPSSPP official

Android Police coverage: PPSSPP Is A Prototype PSP Emulator Available On The Play Store For Your Gaming And Testing Pleasure

So a lot of us were kind of disappointed that the PlayStation Vita is running proprietary software instead of good old Android. Give Sony its comeuppance with PPSSPP, an original PlayStation Portable emulator currently in early testing. The emulator is free and legal, as are custom-made homebrew apps, but remember that downloading ROMs for games is most definitely a no-no.

--

PPSSPP is an early prototype PSP emulator for Android and other platforms. PPSSPP is still in its very early stages and does not run many games. It's provided here if you want to try it, so that you can automatically receive updates over time - over time this will probably become a usable emulator. Please go to http://www.ppsspp.org for more information. IMPORTANT: Please do not give bad reviews due to low compatibility. It takes time. NOTE: No games are included with this download, you will have to dump your own PSP games and turn them into .ISO or .CSO files, or simply play free homebrew games, which are available online.

Nara Mobile

Think of Nara as Pandora for local restaurants. Build your foody profile and it will suggest local eateries that fit both your taste and your location, complete with music-style thumbs up and thumbs down controls. The map view is particularly helpful, especially if you're travelling.

--

Nara mobile analyzes and curates the web to find personalized results for the places and things you love. The search is over. The "find" is what's now. Nara’s personalized discovery engine lets you browse restaurants that match your tastes by creating your customized digital DNA profile. Nara tunes new finds to your personal preferences and will introduce you to restaurants in a new city by matching your tastes to your favorite spots back home. Go straight to the find, every time, no matter where you are and enjoy a Life Well Found.

instead of Taskaru, you should definitely check out LMT launcher http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330150. It is not a 'home' launcher like Apex, Nova, or Go. It is a pie that appears with the slide of a finger. Very well polished and customizable app. More so than Taskaru

    • jer01

I like Relaunch better for launching apps, but I really like LMT's larger range of commands!!
