If you happen to be the type of person who buys things, then we have good news. In fact, you may even think it's great.

Google Shopper just got updated.

A little anticlimactic? Fine. It's still good news, though. Especially for those who like to spend money. Which is basically everyone.

So, what does this new update bring? All kinds of stuff. How do I know this, you ask? Because I looked at the changelog. And you can too!

What's in this version:

* New UI with faster navigation and bigger images.
* Discover sales and special offers in your area from the new sales screen.
* Search for apparel and accessories more effectively with image-centric search results.
* Make more informed buying decisions with GoodGuide product ratings.
* Get great deals online with retail promotions.
* Find out about new features and content with push notifications.

Look at that - I even brought the changelog to you. Anyway, new stuff. It's in here. If you like shopping, try it out. If you like Google things, try it out. If you like Google-sponsored shopping, then you probably already have this installed. In that case, just update it.

    Nice update.

Now only if they would put a big update out for Google Voice

I'm holding out hope that the rumors of Google working on a consolidated Messaging app are true, and they are combining everything: SMS/MMS, gTalk, Messenger + Hangouts and Google Voice. All in a way that was similar to webOS where I could change modes of communication within one thread, and it'll automatically switch to texting from IMs if the person signed off. I soooo serious miss that. C'mon Matias!

They also need to bring Messenger huddles to the Desktop. I like messaging flexibility.

Yeah, and integrate Pidgin into their messenger ;)

One of the main reasons I use Shopper is to comparison shop in stores, since it has a barcode scanner interface, just like other similar apps. http://i.imgur.com/lN8Qj.png

So for me, it's not about "Google-sponsored shopping" at all but about seeing if I am getting a good deal at a store.

I'm usually checking the prices from home before I go into stores. 9/10 times I find the cheapest price on some site I never heard of, or was aware of. No bad transactions/scams, though. Thankfully. I'm sad very few are Google Wallet-equipped.
