Adding more fuel to the Nexus 7 rumor fire, Google has just pulled the 7" slate's 16GB variant off its virtual shelves, listing the device as "coming soon."

This comes after some fast and furious price drops were spotted at both GameStop and Office Depot, taking the 16GB N7 down to the rumor-approved $199 price point, perhaps in preparation for the arrival of a 32GB (and, dare we say, potentially 3G-enabled) variant of the device.

You may remember that the 8GB Nexus 7 met a similar fate just under one week ago after speculation that it may be getting canned for good, though we fully expect the 16GB version to make a return. It's unclear why exactly Google pulled the item, but our best guess is that the Play Store is preparing for its own price drop on the device. We'll keep you updated as we find out more.

Yeah, at this point I'm not sure I'd get a 3G version, but an LTE one on a data share plan, that'd be a whole other matter.

Oh well I won my 16gig one so not bothered, wouldn't want to have bought one though within the last couple off weeks as I would be pretty disappointed that I could have got a 32 gig for the same price!!!!!

  • lordmerovingian

Should definitely have started out at 16GB/32GB @ $199/$249..

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

Or 64GB/128GB for $149/$199, right? And not 4 months ago but 4 years ago. Definitely should have done that.

We would have won the market instead of the iPad taking over. Now we have to make up lost marketshare.

      • lordmerovingian

??? Hmmm, I don't get your point. If you were trying to make one, I guess I'm too retarded to get it. They might as well aim for 1TB/2TB at $99/$149. And why wait for 4 months or 4 years, do it last week, eh?

          Sarcasm, my friend.

Ok, seriously, how many people are going to just keep refreshing the Play Store Devices page all day just to see if something changes?

I feel sorry for people who don't research products before they buy them and bought a 16gb for $250 in the last month since we've known
