An invite for an Android event held by Google just hit our inbox - on October 29th, in New York, we'll be seeing the latest and greatest from Google in regard to its mobile operating system.

It has been widely speculated that the focus of this event will be on two things: a new Nexus phone, and Android 4.2. It's becoming increasingly apparent that Android 4.2 is a fairly incremental update to the OS (see our teardowns of an alpha build of 4.2, here and here), so the focus has largely shifted to the next Nexus.

Rest assured, we'll be there. But you can, too - virtually - because Google will be live-streaming the entire event on YouTube.

Since this is in NY and I live in NY, is there any way I can get in there?

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ David Ruddock

Google barely has enough room for the press at these sorts of events - though it would be cool if they had a contest for anyone to win a couple tickets. There's no way these things will ever be open to the public, though.

    W00t!

  • fzero17

also the LG NEXUS 4 presentation ... so exciting

  • Preston

Finally they hold their OWN events instead of doing it at a tech conference or having a manufacturer do it!

    • 5n4r35

I'm wondering if that means something bigger for the Nexus line. I'm still trying to read the tea leaves and analyze the invite. By looking at the invite you wouldn't think it has anything to do with a phone or any device for that matter.

      • mrsbelpit

That's Google Now up there, I'm crossing my fingers for big things added to GN.

  • Kenny O

    Boom goes the dynamite!

  • http://profiles.google.com/pbooker117 Phillip Booker

32GB Nexus announced shipping with 4.2.1 priced at $250, 16GB, 8GB, both to receive update OTA and see a $50 price reduction.

    • http://profiles.google.com/pbooker117 Phillip Booker

Oh yea also Announce Nexus 4, as well as establishing foundation for Nexus Device line.

    • nhizzat

And more Play Store credit for early adopters that feel cheated because they'd rather have 32GB of storage. *wishfulthinking*

  • http://turbofool.com Jarrett Lennon Kaufman

Please, Google: do us a favor and unveil more than the LG Nexus. Show us a Nexus that has a replaceable battery and more than 8GB of storage.

    • Bariman43

I will laugh so hard when the LG Nexus is confirmed to have more than 8 GB of storage, because apparently people still think a test unit is the final build of the phone.

      • http://turbofool.com Jarrett Lennon Kaufman

I'd be rather surprised if that wasn't indicative of the base model. While I'm sure they'll have higher capacities available, 8GB is a bad starting point. My bigger concern or complaint is the battery. That's not going to change.

please let this be a 32GB Nexus 7

    • Sootie

      That already exists.....

  • mendel

is it possible to buy tickets?

    • http://twitter.com/Twitteninja ZZ

Youtube.com/Android is the only ticket you need.

      • http://www.androidpolice.com/ David Ruddock

        Best seat in the house.

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ David Ruddock

This is a press conference - so no.

    here we go....

  • IP IHI II IL

On my Burfday, no less! Happy Burfday to MEEEE!

  • Mike

why must i be in school during the event...

    • smor

      That's what she said...

      • Kenny O

I need two men on this.

        • squash

          That's what she said.

  • Glenn Patrick

The words have may have a hidden meaning...anyone care to guess? My guess is the playground is the nexus program, the club reserved for enthusiasts and developers, and its now open to all oems. Multiple nexii may really be in the cards!

  • pravdroid

"The Playground is open" Does it mean that the Nexus Playground is open for all manufacturers? Sure sounds like a coded message

    • http://AndroidPolice.com/ Liam Spradlin

"The Playground is Open" is a slogan Google first used (I think) with the Nexus 7. It was likely included in the invitation for the sake of continuity.

    • Freak4Dell

It definitely is a hint for something...I just don't know if it's referring to the rumored Nexus program, or something to do with the Play Store.

Or maybe not...I should have read David's comment first.

  • mduran1023

    Trolling Microsoft, clearly.

Also, it's too damn early. No even gonna be up at that time.

    • Freak4Dell

I'm a lazy bum who sleeps til noon most days, but come on, be realistic. 10AM is pretty late in the morning for normal people.

      • mduran1023

Ah, not about being lazy. More like I'm on PST, so probably not getting up early just to watch a little before I go to work.

Just a little bit later, and I would've been able to stream the whole thing while I'm already in the office.

        • Freak4Dell

Understandable. I'm going to miss out on the live stream, too...have a test that day. At least I'll be able to look forward to kicking back, relaxing, and watching this after the exam, though.

  • TheFirstUniverseKing

The playground is open? Aha! I got it! Google is going to have a big hide-and-seek game involving the entire audience, just to distract the public (and press) from Microsoft's WP8 announcement which is on the same day!

  • TechGuy21

damn. i live in NY too. wish i could get in :(

    • JensAstrup

Same - I'm hoping this event means I'll be seeing someone wearing Google Glass on the subway to work that day :P

  • shamu11

YAY, I CAN WATCH IT BEFORE SCHOOL AT 7

  • jamaall

I wish the event was at 4pm :( stupid school

    • smor

      That's what she said...

      • jamaall

        that makes no sense

  • Avrohom Eliezer Friedman

Based on the design of the invite - would I be crazy to assume that there will be a MAJOR Google Now update?

    • smor

      A dovor chashuv...

    • mrsbelpit

That's what I'm thinking. Excited to see what they have in store for us.

  • Scott Standish-Parkin

I live right here in the city and it sucks the public can not go....I guess I'm using my tax return for I/O this year :) But if you guys do find out us non-press people can go, I wouldn't mind carrying one of those extra heavy passes to attend...just saying.

  • Andrea Rossi

"because Google will be live-streaming the entire event on YouTube."

"---->> because Google will be live-streaming the entire event on YouTube. <> because Google will be **live-streaming** the entire event on YouTube. <<----"

Live-streaming, motherfucking Apple!! Do you speak it?? ಠ_ಠ
