jetpackjoyride

Back in August, Halfbrick Studios brought their hit iOS game Jetpack Joyride over to the Android side. The problem was, though, you could only get it from the Amazon Appstore. That's not the case any longer, as the game has finally abandoned its exclusive period in the Appstore and is now available in the Play Store.

For those who may not have seen our previous coverage of the app or read Jeremiah's review (spoiler: he loved it), a little insight may be in order. For starters, there are only three words you need to know: Machine gun jetpack. If that's not enough, then here are two more: robot dragons. If you're not sold after hearing that, then I have no idea what it is you want from a mobile game.

In all seriousness, though, Jetpack Joyride is simple enough to pick up and play, but challenging enough to keep the game going. It's free in the Play Store, so hit the widget and check it out.

Anyone know if I can restore my save from the Amazon version to the Play version? I couldn't handle the wait so I downloaded that version.. but now I wanna switch to the Play version.(without having to start from scratch :/)

If you're rooted and have Titanium Backup, you can (1) backup the Amazon version, (2) uninstall, (3) download Jetpack Joyride from the Play Store and then (4) just restore data, NOT app + data.

Nope, this can't happen because they are different versions and show up as different apps in Titanium. It seems Amazon has 1.3.6 and Play Store has 1.3.5. I backed-up the 1.3.6, installed 1.3.5 from Play Store and will wait until the 1.3.6 update from Play Store to restore it. But this might not even work, something tells me...

I may be wrong, but I think the Amazon and Google Play apks are each signed differently. So yeah, the back up and restore method might not work.

To begin with, the package name itself is different for both of them. So, Ti bkp won't recognize them as same app; so you can't restore data from one to another.

I make a point of not buying any app that does the whole amazon app store exclusivity thing. I won't even consider buying this.

Umm... it's FREE in case you didn't see the bright green font above the five blank stars on the right?

It's not exclusive anymore. It's kind of silly to react this way isn't it?

    • Cheeseball

It's free and not exclusive. Did you even read the article or even check the Play Store link?

I guess I could kind of understand, but wouldn't it make a bigger point if you ignore the Amazon version and download the (late) Play store one?

Your loss. It is probably the most mobile game I've played in a long time. Must suck having pride that keeps you from playing FREE mobile games.

I was sold on machine gun jet pack, but then you had to say robot dragons and make me rush

I played this game on iOS, loved it. Played it when it was Amazon exclusive, loved it. Now on my Nexus 7 directly on play store? LOVE it.

Now only Hero Academy needs to get on Android and it'll be perfect for me!

see ya later, amazon. i'd love to get stats on how many people uninstall the amazon version of an app on the day it loses exclusivity like this. i can't wait to rid my phone of it.

Eugh, have to stick with Amazon.. Can't transfer my data haha

I installed the appstore version last night and it ran like shit on my TP so I went and downloaded it from the play store. Didn't realize yesterday was the very day it was released there, I was just happy I could get a different version. Anyway, the play store version worked flawlessly.
