If you've ever been on your way out the door while trying to decipher a delayed weather radar map, this is your lucky day. Already a notable app for iOS users, Sky Motion has arrived on Android to make sure you always know when inclement weather is on the way.

This is not a full-featured weather app, and it's not supposed to be. Sky Motion specializes in hyper-local geolocation weather reports. By using a combination of GPS, radar maps, motion tracking, and prediction algorithms, Sky Motion tells you exactly when it's going to rain. It's not just rain, though. Sky Motion can clue you into approaching snow, freezing rain, hail, and sleet as well. Many forecast apps give you data from weather stations that might be miles away, but Sky Motion tracks storms in square kilometer segments.

The app itself can pipe in forecasts updated in 1, 5, or 15 minute intervals. It will find your location by GPS, but you can also manually enter locations. Sky Motion forecasts only go out 2 hours, but that's probably enough to plan your attire in the morning. I wouldn't call Sky Motion a Holo app, but it's not bad looking and has an action bar of sorts. The app is free with a persistent ad at the bottom of the screen.

If this works, it's awesome. I'll grab it and see if I have a use for it.

Seems to be US only. Can't install it in my country (Belgium).

Sounds like the same thing as Ourcast or whatever it was called... that one was hardly accurate for me tho.

US Only. Perhaps Android Police should be mentioning when an app is only available in the US.

      We'll drop a note.

The app's description states it works in US and southern Canada, folks, so those of you outside those areas are a bit out of luck for now. Hopefully, they'll bring it to more areas soon.

    Canada & USA for now...

Great idea, pretty good interface for a first release; screams for a widget though...

They're actually a lot better. It translates radar maps for you

It really specifies 3:33-3:34 rain, 3:35 no rain, 3:36-3:38 rain? There's no way it can be that accurate! The weatherman tells me it's going to be raining cats and dogs with lighting storms and then it turns out sunny and tanning weather.

    Anyone have experience with this?

I'm going to be very skeptical about it's accuracy as it says it's raining right now and it is blue skies with ZERO chance of a cloud today! Too bad...looks nice though.

It should also mention where it doesn't work in US and Canada, pretty disappointing since I live in a major city. Not bad for a free gimmick.
