You thought today's Google Play promotion was just about apps and games? You thought wrong. Google is going all-out, offering 25 music albums, 25 movies, 25 magazines, and 25 books you can all buy at deeply discounted prices right now (TV shows are not part of the promotion at this time).

albums

The selection is actually pretty decent. For example, on Play Music, you can get classics like the Beach Boys Pet Sounds 40th Anniversary for just $4 (which I'm actually listening to right now). If that's not up your alley, there's bound to be something for everybody here, so get your credit cards ready.

It's unknown if there will be new music, movies, and books every day to go along with the apps that will be added over each of the next 5 days, but we'll probably find out soon enough.

Hey that's awesome.. oh but wait I don't have the I-LIVE-IN-THE-FRICKIN-STATES credit card.

  • PickyPicky

Is it just me or... couldn't Google have put these into 5 rows of 5 instead of 4 rows of 6 with an extra on the next page?

Movie promotion is not available in the UK although the apps are and obviously Music isn't available.

Albums are pretty solid, movies are meh and books are even more meh.

    • makapav

Movies are okay but they become ''meh' when you see what they are charging for the HD versions.

  • justin

this is a "meh" deal all around if you ask me

  • Packy

    These deals suck.

Haha, those are the prices they have been running on those for some time and hardly ones that "changed the world."

Dear Google, there's a world beyond the United States. If you want to compete with Apple in all categories, perhaps you should realize this, I'm forced to buy songs from Amazon and Apple because you don't get your act together.

      They're working on it.

      • jusatin

Clearly not hard enough. I can buy music from iTunes, Spotify etc.why not Google music? Same with renting movies (although wouldn't do that anyway anymore since we are getting flickster for 9,95€/month :P)

Blame the content right holders. Knowing Google, they would make their digital media sales available anywhere an Internet connection exists, but they can't until they hammer out deals with everyone.

          • jusatin

Yeah.. but it's just weird there are so many services out already, that work here, but I guess Google just doesn't want to spend all that money :P

not on sale, but if you like trance & dance music, pick up Markus Schulz Los Angeles '12 two disc mix compilation on Google Play.

Was expecting 25c here too. Oh well.

  • ocdtrekkie

Movie prices don't seem discounted at all. o.O

  • dsad

Music: Not aviable in my country
Movies: Rentals suck! If I pay I want to own them

  • Bruno Pedro

These deals suck. I was expecting real deals. I'll pass

Why is Google so obsessed with the album "The Carter III" they are constantly featuring it during their sales promotions. And how is anything recorded by Kanye West considered an album that changed the world?

    • Guest

      **Lil' Wayne

    • qak

They have a wider customer base to appeal to than just the people who like classic rock, classic music, etc. There are people in the Play Store world that enjoy Kanye West, like me for example. And if you really, really, really want to get technical, you could make an argument that College Dropout or Snoop Dogg's Doggystyle changed the world. The definition of music changes according to who is listening to what. That's the beauty of it man, it's for everyone.

Pretty sure you mean Lil Wayne with the Carter III comment, in which case I agree. But if you do actually want to hear an awesome CD by Kanye West check out College Dropout.

"25 Movies to Own" looks like "25 Movies to Rent" to me. I would have bought a couple if they were to buy. Ditto to all the 'not everyone is in the USA' sentiments.

  • Ogtomasx

Guys the movies are usually 12-15 to buy they are at 7.99 be a bit thank full

    >25 albums that changed the world
    >Lady Gaga

    Wat.

  • http://twitter.com/Gil_Smash Gil Smash

In terms of music that changed the world they should have included a little from every genre, yea Public Enemy and Snoop Dogg were pretty influential for the entire genre but there isn't a single metal album on there. Try telling me Tha Carter is more influential then Master of Puppets or Raining Blood...

  • Carlos Miller

    They can do better.
