In all the Jelly Bean excitement, it can be easy to forget that only 20% of Android users are running Ice Cream Sandwich. Today that number gets just ever so slightly larger, though. AT&T has announced that the Samsung Captivate Glide will be upgraded to 4.0 starting today, September 7th. Woo!

The update will only be available via Kies, so head to your favorite desktop computer post haste. It will not be rolling out over the air. It is, however, available immediately, which is nice. Glide owners can head here for instructions and a link to Kies if you don't already have it on your machine.

I'm getting tired of waiting for AT&T to get ICS on my Atrix

      2 words... Custom ROM

  • droe411

The Atrix is an old out dated phone, I am sure it isn't a priority right now. Plus why get mad at AT&T, Motorola hasn't even finished the update yet.

  • Nick Carter

Motorola has moved past the original Atrix (and even the Atrix 2) in terms of priority. The Atrix HD is their current star. (and lucky me for having one since it will get Jelly Bean)

why are so many samsung updates only offered through kies and not OTA? been wondering that for a while. is it because they don't want to have to deal with a ton of customers wondering why the interface changed so much, so only offer it to those who actively seek it? does that mean that those who don't update through kies have reached the end of ota bug fixes etc??

That would be a good reason, except AT&T sent a text letting everyone know it was available.

Looks like I'll be helping my girlfriend update her phone tonight then.

Wife has a Captivate glide. But it's been running ICS via CWM flash for some time now. But I want to try this official version as it's acting funny, mic volume issues mainly. I doubt it'll like her captivate glide right now with CWM recovery installed and a custom ROM. I wonder if somebody will release a flashable zip of this 'update' or if I have to hunt down a flashable zip of an older stock version.

    • fixxmyhead

they will give it a day or two. "via CWM flash" lol u must be new

DO NOT INSTALL THIS UPDATE!!! I got this update last night from Kies.

    1. The keyboard backlight does not work!
    2. YouTube and the stock video player won't play in landscape mode, unless you open the keyboard or leave auto-rotation of the screen enabled.
    3. Media management is messed up. As you keep adding pictures and sound files through your computer, downloaded via the web or moving them around using the phone's File Manager, the media applications (Gallery, Music Player, ringtone selector, etc.) will start adding duplicate entries of your files... and the triplicates, and quadruplicates...

Does anyone know if you can go back to the old software?

      • Mike Gauna

The only roll back I could find was the stock 2.3.5 Once this is installed, there is a 2.3.6 OTA update but it fails cause I think the boot image is different. You can update to ICS from the 2.3.5 update though. If you would like instructions and the files to roll back, my email is gauna@live.com. In the subject put GINGERBREAD ROLL BACK so it dont get lost in spam. My name is Mike

  • Pattmyn

Any word if this is coming to the Rogers model of the same phone?

  • Mike Gauna

I was able to find a STOCK GINGERBREAD ROM for the Glide. I had to tweak it a bit to make the install SUPER SUPER EASY. If interested in rolling back, email me at gauna@live.com and in the subject put GINGERBREAD ROLL BACK.

copy and paste is different you gotta click the two papers in the top right corner of the screen samsung said there working on the backlit problem now
