It's difficult to put out a $1.5 billion movie and not expect a few major product tie-ins. Marvel, today, "released" (we'll get to that in a bit) a new game for Android called "Avengers Initiative." This $7 app stars the Hulk, as the green loose cannon battles some of his most notorious villains, including Wendigo, the Abomination, and even the infamous Skrulls. The game will only be available for select Android devices to start with.

Curiously, though, despite the game being available on the Play Store, it doesn't seem to be active. There is a list of devices that will be supported (including the HTC One X, Galaxy S III, Nexus 7, and many other flagship phones and tablets), however it can't actually be installed just yet. It's not exactly common for an app to pre-launch by appearing in the Play Store without supporting any devices, but we expect it will be available soon. In any case, here's the full list of products that will be supported:

HTC Evo 4g
HTC Incredible 4g
LG G2x
LG Nitro HD
Motorola Droid 3
Motorola Droid RAZR
Motorola Droid Charge
Motorola Atrix 4g
Motorola Photon Q 4g
Samsung Galaxy Nexus
Samsung Galaxy SII
Samsung Galaxy SIII
Samsung Galaxy Note
Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7
Google Nexus 7
Asus Transformer Prime
Asus Transformer

Most interestingly, Marvel says that this will be the first part in an episodic "cross-over mobile gaming event." It's unclear if new episodes will be released within the app as additional content, or if new games will be released. It's also not certain how much the new content will cost when it does. Still, color me excited. Which, is green apparently.

Update: According to Droid Gamers, the game was intended to launch today, but may in fact be delayed. Which could explain why the Play Store page went live, but the app itself has not. No word yet on just when it will be released, but we'll be watching for when it does.

I can buy it in The Netherlands, €5.54 so it would be $7

why are none of the "amazing hd graphics" impressing me?

    • fixxmyhead

they always lie when they say ''hd graphics". there more like playstation 1 graphics with all the blocky squarish design on the characters. they try to hide the blockiness with shading and coloring but u can easily see through that.

      • DCMAKER

they have definitely reached PS2 graphics. Do you even remember a PS 1 game? They may even be better than PS2

        • fixxmyhead

its been a while but i dont think theyve reached ps2 graphics. final fantasy 10 looked really good on ps2 and none of these games look that good. also definitely NOT better than ps2. try GTA 3 and then try it on a ps2, major difference. u can see it right away in the first mission the graphics are crappier on the android version

they also made GTA3 to work on single/duel core phones. They didn't make it to work on current gen quad core phones...err they didn't make the graphics for quad core phones

          • fixxmyhead

i have mass effect but yet to play it :-/ have too many games on my s2

shadowgun does look pretty good on my N7 with tegra 3
i guess only the HD ones for quadcore look good

As the trailer says new "free episodic content" will be released soon, so I'd say, that in fact it is clear whether you have to pay for it or not - or better: how much you have to pay... Nothing! ;-P

It do not support Galaxy Note. It only says so. Or perhaps it's i717 they're talking about and not N7000.
