Today's a good day for mobile gamers to open up their wallets. Max Payne, which David rated as having the highest possible nostalgia-to-dollars ratio, is 67% off today in the Play Store, clocking in at $0.99. Not bad. Looking for a better deal? How about Crystal Defenders? Developed by Square Enix (you know, the Final Fantasy guys), the game is normally $7.25, but for right now it's only $1.26, for a massive 83% off. Given the quality of Square Enix games, this is a fantastic deal.

Of course, Google is probably behind this, as each of these games include a reference to an 'End of Summer Sale' in their descriptions at this time. Including the revered SwiftKey 3, which is currently on sale for $0.99, or 75% off. If you haven't tried the keyboard alternative out, now would be a great time.

Other games and apps that make mention of the sale include (but are not limited to) The Lorax ($0.99), Vignette ($0.99), Star Chart ($1.09), and Super Dynamite Fishing Premium ($0.99). We haven't yet seen any official promos for this summer sale (though a similar one is going on for books right now), the prices are live. No need to wait for the ribbon-cutting. Get in there!

Update: More apps and games are joining in the fray. From Gameloft, Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation, Gangstar Rio: City of Saints, and NOVA 3 are all $0.99 in the Play Store right now, advertising the same "End of Summer Sale."

Here's a full list of all the apps and games we've been able to find so far that seem to be a part of the sale:

Update x2: Google has finally posted the sale promo. Here's a link to the full list of apps and games. There are a few apps that we didn't spot yet including The Game of Life, Draw Race 2, and Me Too! - Little Critter all for $0.99.
