It looks like Google has added a new feature to the Play Store on devices that will recommend apps to users based on personalized criteria. In a new section, you can find apps that have been +1'd by your friends, apps that are popular in your area, and even apps that are "popular with similar users" based on some undisclosed criteria.

recommend1 recommend2 recommend3

The feature mirrors a similar recommendation feature that's been live on the web version of the Play Store for at least a month now. Still, it's even handier on mobile. Also, you can flag an app as uninteresting to you by clicking on the little cross-out icon on the side. Presumably, Google will use this data to personalize results even further. So, does it show you any new apps you didn't know about before?

Thanks Debadatta, Kalpik, Eduardo, Archit, and SysOne!

I guess this is a followup to the Recommended widgets on Jellybean. :)

Sadly, this isn't the first time Android Police has written up an article about a new site/feature without actually linking to that site. Heh...

The new feature is on the play store on your actual device, not the play store website???

Interesting, I remember having this function in my Google Play one or two weeks ago - Galaxy Nexus.

The "Recommended For You" section would be handier if it gave an option like Amazon and Netflix do to indicate that you already have purchased or watched a certain movie or album.

Hey Eric, you might want to remove the number from that first screenshot. Spam is imminent.

The Android navigation keys in the third screenshot are badass.
