Update 8/29/12: The deal is back (Amazon Wireless, Wirefly), though only until August 30th (tomorrow). Remember, you'll need to activate a new line of service and subscribe to the Share Everything plan to get the $40 bill credit.

Original article from May 2012 follows.

Verizon, looking to sweeten the deal for anyone ready to grab a new 4G smartphone, has begun a promotion that offers customers a $40 bill credit when buying a new 4G LTE smartphone from either Amazon Wireless or Wirefly.com.

The promotion, which is open to new or upgrading customers, began at 12am today and will last until May 24th. Customers wishing to participate can activate up to 5 devices, each earning another $40 credit.

If you've been waiting for just the right moment to upgrade to (or activate) a new smartphone powered by Verizon's 4G LTE network, now is a great time.

Those interested need only head over to Amazon Wireless' promotional page here or Wirefly's promo here.

So... save $40 but get kicked off of unlimited data? ... eh, no thanks. I'd rather just buy unsubsidized phones from now on.

I wonder how much this will change how people buy phones from verizon.

It won't. Majority of people are already on tiered plans. Out of those who are still on unlimited, many won't care or comprehend the change.

I thought this was only going to happen once VZW puts that into affect. Would make sense to get at least another 2 years of unlimited data on a 2 agreement price...then after that buy full price/used phone to not lose the unlimited data.

My friend and I were both in the market last time this sale came around. Got on a shared data plan together and figured we would get a nice $40 off one of our next bills. To our surprise we got $40 for each phone and only paid $40 each that month for our 6gb plan. Very good deal considering we also got the Gnex for a penny.

      Enjoy the overages.

We are both power users always on the Web constantly using panoramic in the car and at work and we use about 5 a month. We both understand how easy it is to connect and save Wifi hot spots. Keeps us from going over every month. But thanks!!

Yea I just didnt care to have to monitor them all the time. I have plenty of other things to do than to watch my GB count :). But not everyone has those issues. I did the same thing when talk and text were counted each as well. Now that I have unlimited text, I use it much more than I used to, almost exclusively... Same with data....

No thanks, I switched to Sprint. They have roaming deals with Verizon so if my phone ever has crap service it just switches me to Verizon's line. Ohh and I have a Photon Q with unlimited data. Screw you verizon.
btw the funny thing is, Verizon called me the day after I ported my number over telling me they were sending me to collections if i didnt pay the amount of my last bill when they were on the phone with me. Again F U verizon, if you ever wanted me back as a customer then you shouldnt have treated me like a felon after I switched.
