One of the coolest features in Jelly Bean, Google Now, just got its first major update since Android 4.1 was released. The update brings some oft-requested features:

  • Movies - see movie showtimes and more
  • Public alerts - receive emergency messages such as storm warnings and earthquake alerts
  • Add favorite sports teams to follow in real time (from Settings)
  • Support for Korea

Most of these features are the perfect use-case for Google Now, so it's great to see El Goog already bringing new and intuitive features to the table.

The update is available in the Store now, so go get it!

When will it be available for other countries (and languages)? :(

That movie times thing sounds great. Never even thought of that function, but I'm glad they put it in!

Saw some weird choice of names with the Sports. London Arsenal? Would think Arsenal FC is the proper one.

It's London Tottenham Hotspur as well. It would have be nice if As well as results, major news stories about the club could be displayed like all the signings made or players sold with the transfer windows open I am sure many would have liked to have be kept up to date by Google.

Same thing with the Blues. London Chelsea just doesn't sound right. Works well though, as the match between CFC and Atletico is showing up. KTBFFH!

My thinking is that this was a purposeful choice for folks to search by city? Unfortunately for me, my team (Blackpool) isn't listed. Maybe in the next update.

I was wondering why when I updated my apps my phone rebooted.....makes sense now.

I am SO stoked about the movie time add in! I've asked for movie times multiple times since JB released, just to get an internet result (which I didn't necessarily hate). This will make date nights with the lady a little simpler.

Unless there's a magic word combo, I'm still just getting web results (the top result is of course Google movie times, which I typically use, but it would be nice to save a step and have it just show me local times in Google Now)

Great to see Google further improving their services :D

Any idea if they have improved performance for the Nexus S? Keeping Google Now ON makes the OS take 54% of battery, and drains it in 8-10 hours. The only reason I'm not using it right now... :(

Public alerts - receive emergency messages such as storm warnings and earthquake alerts"
feature is very important! Will this feature have push notification?

    • Chris Webster

      I believe so

  • Matti

Stupid Google. They don't realize that "soccer" is real football and "football" is really handegg. =P

  • Patrick

Ummm...soccer but no college sports.WTF? Who cares about soccer? Come on Google...

    • http://profiles.google.com/marcusleejh Marcus Lee

      Who cares about "soccer"?

To answer your question, 1) You mean "football"; and 2) Uhm, most of the world outside the US?

      • andy gowrley

But you forgot the world college sports cup which happens every four years and most of the world stops working for four weeks to watch :-P But seriously Google is us centric enough already just look at Google currents with all the us news and sport and yet fails to mention true world events.

  • MattEden

Sadly all the Google Now sports alerts do is remind me how much the Cubs suck.

  • Sheldon

No CFB is still a huge disappointment...

  • Mark Smith

    Woohoo! Updating now!
