73v1n (a.k.a. @Xevin, a.k.a. Cameron Behzadpour), the creator of official CyanogenMod boot animations, dropped the version for CM10 a couple of minutes ago. Jelly Bean-colored, clean, and simple, yet, in my opinion, highly attractive, the animation hits the nail on the head. There no Cid, no controversy surrounding him, no outdated skater dude - just pure awesomeness. I won't spoil the fun - just watch.

  • Shawn Strong

Oh, I like it. And I want it.

  • matthew4295

No Cid like in CM9? I like CM9's better.

  • http://twitter.com/redbullcat Phil Oakley

Wow. That's...awesome. I've always felt that having Cid on the boot animation looked a bit odd, so this is really cool.

  • Swapnil Chitnis

Would look even better with the Roboto Font

  • aNYthing6

Honestly, I wish they'd just use the stock Nexus boot animation.

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

But then there would be no differentiation at all. Plus, the stock Nexus animation is kind of boring, IMO. I definitely prefer this one.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1745689461 Hal Motley

I do agree that there should always be a custom boot animation.

    • Skydiver

At this moment I use Nexsus boot animation.

  • http://richworks.in Richie

This is way too simple but doesn't really capture Cyanogenmod's soul :P

but at least we got the Evil Cid out of the way..

  • riteshk

Its okay. I still think CM7 had the best one.

    • http://twitter.com/redbullcat Phil Oakley

      Yeah, CM7's was awesome.

    • Skydiver

CM 9 (not CID) is the best one for me.

  • Ravi E

Umm wait. No version number in the animation? Isn't that a 1st too?

  • http://ashwith.wordpress.com/ Ashwith Rego

It would be cool if the boot animation could include that background music :-)

  • Bas

I prefer a mascot, though Cid isn't what I like. I just want my lovely blue droid on a skate board back :'(

  • http://twitter.com/SeleiLaurentiu Selei Laurentiu

    honeycomb texture

  • Daniel Streit

Just making cid smile and wink friednly would had been perfect in my opinion

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/wwjoshdew Josh

Hmmmm. This is a NEW boot animation for "CMX - CyanogenMod 10", but it's the first time I've seen it on a device! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpMY_eyD_LU&hd=1

  • http://www.facebook.com/imranuh Imran Ul Haque

What was the controversy regarding to SID? :-/

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

People hated it, and it had to undergo a bunch of transformations, at which point people still hated it.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1745689461 Hal Motley

I actually like Cid now, hence why at the moment he's my profile picture.

        I think he's cute.

  • eTiMaGo

has an Iron Man chest piece feel to it, I like :)

  • Sniper435

so.. where can we get this?

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1745689461 Hal Motley

Soon when the CM team integrate it with the nightlies.

  • Simon Baker

Its better than the CM9 one, I still prefer CM7's overall but I think this strikes the right balance between looking user friendly and more professional.

  • http://www.facebook.com/koniczynek Michał Droździewicz

Am I the only one thinking that CM9 was better?

    • PINJ

      Nope :)

    • tookieboy

      Yes? IMO CM9 was.. meh.

    • Skydiver

First CM9 is the best (not second with CID)

  • Pattmyn

I can dig it. Love the tunes during the video too.

  • Dustin Hoffman

    CM 9 looked cool

  • Rory Glynn

I think mine will play this music:

  • tomn1ce

I find that the boot animation for cm9 is better then the one for cm10.

  • vs8

Way netter than the previous one. It was too exaggerated.

PS: I would like to have the ability to turn it off like in CM7. It saves a few secs of boot time, or so my mind thinks.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1745689461 Hal Motley

I thought boot animations were there to entertain you while you waited for the device to boot up. So there is no difference in time.

      • vs8

        So, it's just me. :)

        • GraveUypo

nope, there's indeed a slight difference in boot time. nothing that will make a difference in your life, it's probably around one second or so.

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1745689461 Hal Motley

In that case boot animations are worth it! I mean 1 measly second is negligible to me. 10 seconds perhaps not.

  • PINJ

Its Nice But The Ninth Is Better :)

  • Dean Politis

I like the CM7 boot animation better. It is playful. Is it just me, but Cid looks demonic? This new one is just boring and what is up with the honeycombs inside the ring?

  • Bunie

i think they should use a different font, but it seems pretty good i guess. it will be reusable for CM11 ;P

  • housry23

I hated the CM9 animation. I like simple and elegant. This is closer and it's good, but stock jellybean is the best imo. I know they can't use it, but it's still my favorite boot animation right now.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1745689461 Hal Motley

I think CM9 had a really good boot animation because of the build up to an explosion of blue with Cid standing in the middle of it.

This one is okay but definitely lacks awesomeness because at the end of the day it's just a circular throbber which has been painted blue with the CyanogenMod text inside of it.

For reference, here's what a throbber is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Throbber

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1745689461 Hal Motley

Now that I think about it, doesn't the iPhone use a throbber too? :-(

    • tookieboy

isn't it just a shiny apple?

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1745689461 Hal Motley

        Sometimes I see a throbber.

  • http://about.me/joelinux Joey “JoeLinux” Espinosa

There's an unofficial CM9 ROM for the EVO 3D that has a mind-blowing stereoscopic 3D boot animation, where the logo is shown in the middle, and 3D polygons are flying around tornado-like, while the ones in the front look like they're coming at you. It's fantastically done.

  • jian9007

I'm not a huge fan of it. If you're going to have the ring circling then I would like it to lock "chevrons", like Stargate, then push out the center wormhole into the screen before it goes to the stock JB screen. You could lock the number of chevrons equal to the version number, so 10 chevrons for this boot animation.

    • terrorbyte

i was just thinking it looked like stargate. i think the wormhole idea would be awesome. this may just be my love of stargate showing though

    • JG

9's background kind of looks like the "inside" of a wormhole as well...

  • Tyler

It would be nice if there was a color-inverted one for phones like the HTC One X, that don't have AMOLED screens.

  • gimlet72

I like the CM X boot animation on my prime

  • sgtguthrie

Way better than cm9! I couldn't believe it when they replaced Andy with an alien named Cid :-

  • ElfirBFG

Thankfully I have the 4.1 Nexus animootion on my CM10, it looks best.

I dont really care for them at all. Not the stock one, not anything. They mean nothing. If it gave me a true progress I might care for something because at least then I could plan around the phone booting.

Otherwise just save the CPU time. Even though I root I very, very rarely reboot. I think my GNex has legitimately been off 6-7 times since I got it.

  • KevlarGibs

I would slow it down a little, but I think it's pretty awesome.

  • stephen shavers

does the megaman music play during boot?

  • http://www.facebook.com/RobJohnson90 Rob Johnson

You overhyped it too much, it's just a basic progress indicator looking thing =/

    • Simon Belmont

It's not even that. It's just a throbber.

All it does is show that SOMETHING is happening. It doesn't actually indicate progress, but an actual progress indicator would have been cool.

      • http://www.facebook.com/RobJohnson90 Rob Johnson

I just mean like what you get on your webbrowsers when a tab is loading

  • http://kit.im Kit F

I'm glad they chose to forgo that stupid Cid thing. What a childish mascot. And not in the good sense, either, I mean "a 14 year old designed this" childish. I liked the Axoltl. Child-like, not childish.

  • http://twitter.com/misterE33 Mr E

I'm also happy not to have Cid there, but it seemed a little too generic. It seems like it should have the version # too.

If you look through the past boot anims, it's like CM went from a kid with CM7, a teenager with CM9, and is all adult and businessy with CM10's.

  • Doan

Potentially iconic, due to it being simplistic and easily recognizable.. Without the version displayed, it can be applied to any version of CM.

  • GraveUypo

better than the old ones (specially 9 - i think i can safely say most people don't like cid) but still only ok.

  • moelsen8

i'm probably in the minority here, but I thought CM9's boot animation was super bad ass. even if they would remove Cid from it, it would be an awesome boot animation.

    • http://www.google.com/profiles/MetalMessiah78 José Gómez

I agree. The CM9 boot animation has been my favorite so far.

      • Skydiver

First one is ok but the scond one is ugly (CID)

        • http://www.google.com/profiles/MetalMessiah78 José Gómez

That's the one that I liked! The one with CID. Hahaha.

    • Joel

I'm a fan of the CM9 animation myself (especially after the gawdawful AOKP animation I had before) ... and I just don't understand the Cid hate.

  • http://twitter.com/MaW Matthew Walton

So much better. I got really annoyed with CM7's featuring two very slightly different shades of turquoise, and I do not care for Cid. Sure it's kind of dull, but it's a boot animation. How often do you even want to see it?

  • Kellic

Meh. don't care. I reboot my phone so infrequently and with the Gal S3 being so damn fast its less then 15 seconds.

  • GazaIan

I like it, but adding a 10 or an X (roman numeral) would make it complete. Without a number, I feel you could throw this onto any version of CM.

  • ChumbleSpuzz

Unauthorized incoming wormhole! Close the iris!

  • Ali AlAli

The video is private, not working

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

      Working here.

  • http://cocainemonster.deviantart.com/ Fun With Drugs

Here's something to consider, to everyone bitching about it.
CHANGE IT IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT! Isn't that amazing? Just find a boot
animation you DO like, make sure it's named "bootanimation.zip" and put
it /system/media/, overwriting the original, reboot and voila! Wow,
    wasn't that easy! :)

  • Simon Belmont

It's very simple, but not bad. Frankly, I liked the 8-bit chiptune in the video more than the animation itself.

I echo others in saying that CM7's animation was one of my favorites. It was just perfect.

    • Simon Belmont

Am I missing something, or does it not even show a "10" for CM10? It should at least show that.

I'll reinforce what I said in my post above. It's just too plain and generic.

  • http://cocainemonster.deviantart.com/ Fun With Drugs

Just installed it and it works flawlessly. Looks amazing on a superAMOLED display. <3

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=771802867 Shane Phillips

Would have been better if he hadn't paired the video with music that makes me want to put my fist through my speakers.

As for the boot animation: Seems a bit boring to me.

  • Freak4Dell

This is awesome. Much better than the one for CM9.

  • lineager

Please give me back the lovely android like the CM7 and 9 in the boot animation

  • ElfirBFG

Newest version of epinter's CM10 I flashed has the new boot animation, I really like it, even more than the Nexus chevrons. Simple, clean, holo.

  • Schmekmiester

The previous Cyanogen boot animations gave everyone who I showed it to, boot animation envy. Do you believe that this will too?
