Google is currently pushing out a quick follow-up update (v3.8.17) to the new Play Store (v3.8.15) that rolled out a couple of days ago. 3.8.15 brought significant under-the-hood changes, such as support for gift card redemption and wishlists, but 3.8.17 seems to be just a minor bug fixer. I have absolutely no clue right now what problems it resolves, and decoding the apk to compare with the previous version didn't really shine a light in any helpful way. A cursory run through the usual wishlist (no, not that wishlist) suspects produced no results.

Regardless, it doesn't hurt to be running the latest and greatest version of something as important as the Play Store, so hit up the download mirrors below (we verified them as legitimate and signed by Google).

The APK is signed by Google and upgrades your existing Play Store. The cryptographic signature guarantees that the file is safe to install and was not tampered with in any way. Rather than wait for Google to push this download to your devices, which can take weeks, download and install it just like any other APK and enjoy the new Play Store experience.

When you updated to 2.8.15 did you have problems with google wallet?

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

Google Wallet says my device (EVO LTE) doesn't support it (probably due to root), so I can't really say.

That's normal they don't like root But the day before I went to .15 wallet worked I guess I'll they to embarrass myself again with .16 lol.

Mine shows as unsupported as we'll now. It didn't show as unsupported until I installed this.

It crashes when I launch it >.< How do I install it ?

I had some lag on the SGS3 when accessing the menu, seems gone with the new version.

Here's hoping it fixes paid-for widgets and live wallpaper vanishing every time you connect to USB or reboot the phone, on phones with SD cards (real or virtual).

I can't believe Google have left such a serious problem (and a confusing one, too, with blame being placed on the innocent apps/developers) in Android for over a month now.

(The workaround of uninstalling the app, then installing it while connected to USB did not work for me at all, either. Instead, the install process hangs forever until you disconnect from USB, then it hangs a bit more and fails saying the package is invalid.)

I guess the downvotes are from people who love this bug and hope it is never fixed. :-)

    Thank Artem!!

BTW, how can I verify the apk is signed by Google ?

I want to know, for future download from unfamiliarized sources and such.

    thanks again ;)

You can check by installing it. If you have a Google signed apk installed previously, it will not allow updates to an apk with a different signature.

      • Zaatour36

Any other way? Lets say a new app that I haven't installed?
        Thanks :-)

You would need openssl or keytool that comes with the JDK. Then you can get the signature but you will then still need to verify it is actually legitimate and was generated by the company in question, and not by a malicious user who just used the same text fields.

Mine also doesn't have the "wish list" nor did it have it in 3.8.15 either. Something is fishy in Denmark.

        I'm in the U. S. and I don't have those new features!

Its likely just a small bug fix.

Very anecdotal, but I noticed that performing a mass update on the tablet interface doesn't cause nearly as much of the 'app jumping' bug. It still happens, but it doesn't go on for a few seconds like it used to, it flashes for a second and then goes away.

Edit: looks like a new bug is there now. After pressing the button to install an app from the 'All' list and then accepting the permissions, the app shown on the right side will jump to one of the already installed apps. Every time I install something, it jumps to the Google+ app instantly.

Delta updates don't work with more anymore but did in 3.8.15

They are for me. I updated an app about 5 hours ago on my phone (which was updated to .16 last night) and it definitely didn't do the entire 8 MB download.
