Mobint, the dev team behind the original Holo Launcher (for Android 2.2+ devices), decided to jump into the Android 4.0+ launcher party recently with their latest entry in the Play Store – Holo Launcher HD.

Holo Launcher HD, like its older counterpart, gives your home screen the 4.x panache we've come to know and love, but is specifically modeled after Jelly Bean, and is only compatible with devices running 4.0 and above.

Besides providing a smooth Jelly Bean aesthetic, the launcher has plenty of customizable options, making it a competitive entry in the current fray of ICS/JB launchers. Users can add up to 9 home screen pages, each with icon grids up to 10x10, utilize a scrollable dock with up to 7 icons per page, use gestures to open apps (something that can't be said of Nova's free offering), and apply icon packs compatible with either ADW or Launcherpro, in addition to a handful of other handy features.

Users who opt for Holo Launcher Plus (which runs users a cool $3.99) can make use of even more features, including unlimited configurable app drawer tabs, unread counts for calls, SMS messages, and Gmail, additional gestures, and more.

Overall, Holo Launcher HD has the feature set to compete directly with popular launchers like Nova and Apex, so if you're looking for a Jelly Bean flavored home screen replacement, Holo Launcher HD should definitely be on your list of launchers to try out. How does this compare to, say, Apex?

      What about Nova ? :)

    • Bala

it will take a minute or so to try it out ;)

Yeah, before spilling 3$ I'd like to hear from someone who tried both, thanks.

There's a FREE version, too. AP even included an easy-to-use Play Store widget.

Unless the paid version is merely a donation version, they aren't the same thing.

The additional features in the PRO version are in the second to last paragraph. Doesn't seem like you're missing much functionality in the free version.

Does it automove icons like the true launcher?

      Yes

Nothing can pull me away from Trebuchet, I've tried them all.

Just grabbed nova prime with the $25 I got with my n7, gotta say it was worth it. It was smart of this dev to include a different feature set in the free version to pick up some users that need those. I use to hate it when adw and launcher pro had the same features, it was like what's the point?

Though currently I'm in the camp of Apex, I love that the "launcher wars" are back. I remember the debates of LP vs ADW, and now we have a newcomer to challenge Apex and Nova. I look forward to seeing how they'll push each other in the future. :)

Anyone know how this works on an n7 vs the stock launcher?

All these launchers are starting to look and feel like the exact same thing. We need something new and different!

Oh just give me time. I've been working on something for a while now.

        Who are you?

        • NemaCystX

R2doesInc is a very well known developer in the ROM community, he knows his stuff.

      Two words..
      "Aviate Launcher"

Apex still rocks!!! Even with the free version of Apex you're getting more than Nova and that Holo combined.

Why waste your time on that "yet another launcher"? Ah?

I use Holo Launcher on my G2 (CM7.2) and love it. For people who have not made the jump to ICS yet, the original Holo Launcher is an awesome way to get the look and feel

Can I change icon and title of my shortcuts like nova does?

    • http://www.facebook.com/di5order Matt Burke

In the original Holo Launcher you can, just long press the icon and select edit. I can't imagine they would remove that functionality from this release

Having played with this for over 5 hours (Holo HD Pro), got to say it's really unstable. Keeps on FC-ing or giving hot reboots.
Back to Apex till this is fixed.
On the other hand, it's the smoothest of the lot (Apex/Nova/Holo HD). Much more responsive and very less memory footprint. Would love to make it a default launcher if the bugs are ironed out !

I'm confused. I have Holo Launcher with the Plus unlocker. Is "HD" different than "Plus"? If so, how?

    • Russ M

      Nevermind...

I was wondering... Does any of the recent launchers harness JBs project butter goodness or is project butter strictly tied to Android´s stock launcher? While I really crave some of the features that Nova, Apex and Holo bring along, I can´t wrap my head around foregoing JB´s stock speed that makes my Gnex as fast as any of the quad-core beasts.
