Google just pushed an update v4.1.2 to the Gmail app (up from 4.1.1 and 4.0.5) that brings a few enhancements to Android 4.0+ devices, including improved support for 7" tablets. The full changelog for this update reads as follows:

Android 4.0 (ICS) and up:
- Improved 7" support
- Bug fixes and performance improvements

At first blush there don't appear to be any visual alterations, so we'll just assume that most of these enhancements take place under the hood.

Looks like Google left part of the old changelog in place with this update, as Android 2.2+ received the labels API several months ago. Get with it, Goog!

The update is live in the Store now, so you should be able to jump into the installed apps menu to pull it.

I don't get the update on my Nexus 7, ironically. Tells me, "Your device isn't compatible with this version." Must be because of my modded DPI.

Still no ability to respond to a standard meeting request sent from Microsoft Outlook. First logged in 2008 as a feature request and currently listed as the fifth most starred issue out of over 25,000 requests. 1257EnhancementNew----

It'd be nice if I could empty my trash can from the email app. otherwise I don't see anything new.

Just for the sake of correcting..pin yin is a way of using letters of the normal English alphabet to express Mandarin Chinese. So I see how it would be useful to people living in the US (or wherever else) who are capable and would need to type out Chinese characters for some reason like for travel or business related matters. :)

Call me until it offers the option to disable 'conversations' or whatever they call it.

How about ability to download attachments in the background? I have to tap on the screen like a monkey waiting for the attached file to download not knowing even how much longer it will take as there is no progress bar...

I'm guessing there's still no option to mark as unread without hitting the menu button on a tablet? IIRC, the delete option is also hidden in that menu. Why can these things be accessed so easily on the phone UI, but not the tablet UI, which has more room?
