Baldur's Gate, known throughout the gaming world for helping to revive the computer RPG genre, is making its way to Android. Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition will be available on the Play Store for $9.99 and will include all of the original content including Baldur's Gate and the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion, as well as some brand new, never-before-seen goodies.

The game will be built on a shiny new version of the Infinity Engine, and will include higher resolution graphics as seen above. Don't they look nice? As if that wasn't enough to whet your appetite, here's a list of some of the new features that the Enhanced Edition will bring:

Yes, the new game will even support parties cross-platform. Now you can finally achieve your dream of going on quests in your RPG with friends (and in one of the first games to set the standard in using AD&D 2nd edition rules at that) no matter what platform they're on. We'll keep you updated on when this game is set to drop for Android. The versions for other platforms are set for a September 18th launch, but the Android version will apparently be coming out some unknown amount of time after that.

Sweet. I've never played this, so this would be a great opportunity. It could be a good fit on a mobile platform too.

I am so gonna buy this! Bring on Planscape: Torment and BG2!

Dunno if this helps, but according to Trent Oster, the Android version is targeted to ship around the same time as the PC/Mac and iPad versions.

"While Android is TBA, we are going to ship it pretty close to the PC version. Our supported devices list might be a little short to start."

I am putting money in my BD drive... WHY IS IT NOT ACCEPTING IT?

  • nty

$10 mobile game with additional in-app purchases on release? No thanks, greedy developers. Way to cut out content to milk more memory

    • Cheeseball

The original Baldur's Gate alone is easily worth $90. Besides, the IAPs are just new portraits, voices, and NPCs that were never in the original game to begin with. They didn't cut out anything.

    • http://twitter.com/phenomen Alexander

those 2 IAP are two additional, new, fully voiced characters, with story, new quests and never-seen-before areas.

  • Cheeseball

Argh. I went to the site and found out it's for only tablet-class devices.

I understand why though. The interface would be quite hard to utilize on small, less-than-5.5-inch screens.
