Motorola Photon GHLks

It's been close to a year since Sprint last showed the Motorola Photon 4G some update love, but after seemingly forgetting about this once flagship device, The Now Network is now pushing an OTA update to the device that brings a handful of useful updates and features to the device:

  • More easily import contacts from SD card.
  • Improved music playback, both streaming from Amazon Cloud or Internet Radio services and music saved to the phone - minimizes occasional skips or -repeats
  • Enhancements for WiFi hotspot in GSM/UMTS mode and adding new WiFi connections.
  • Now supports 1080p HD video capture, and enhanced video settings for more responsive playback.
  • Easier creating and accepting calendar meeting notices on the phone.

The update should be available now; hit Settings > About Phone > System Updates > Update Motorola Software to see if it's available on your device.

Oh for the love of god just release the drivers already! At least ICS. Seriously Moto...I'm quickly losing faith...

And a completely locked bootloader so they are stuck locked. Glad I unlocked mine a while ago.

Now Sprint, why don't you just push that ICS update for the EVO 3D while you're at it? Sounds like a plan to me.

  • Yuk

Yeah I sold mine. Good hardware. Horrible customer service and software. Btw unlocking looses 4G. Motorola blows now.

This is funny, I have a newly refurbished evo 3d that sprint gave me that has never been activated and it is boxed up and trying to sell. I was thinking of trading it up for a photon or gs2. Maybe now I will just get the photon instead.

This update does not give the Photon4G ICS. I abandoned my Photon4G last month after months of promises and under delivering by Motorola. After this device I swore I'd never purchase another Motorola device unless Google cleaned house.

If you're rooted, this will break your root. Only way to get it back is manually pushing files via ADB command line.
The bootloader is locked tight, none of the previous unlock methods work. You will not be able to SBF back to 2.3.4 after this update to 2.3.5

Coooooomeee oooooonnnn!!!! What about the EVO 3D?????

  • KeepingItCuttingEdge

Have there been any developments on getting this bootloader unlocked?!?! HOPEFULLY!

Nice way to slap photon users in the face moto.
