Welcome to the weekly roundup of the best new Android applications, games, and live wallpapers that went live in the Market or were spotted by us in the previous 3 weeks or so.

This edition focuses only on new games. The app roundup is coming up soon, and you can find the tablet app roundup here.

Holy crap, there were a lot of quality games released in the last few weeks. This is probably the best collection I've seen in a really long time. Who says there aren't any good games on Android?

If you enjoy this post, feel free to upvote it on Reddit.

Please wait for this page to load in full in order to see the AppBrain widgets, which include ratings and pricing info.

Featured App

Photo Locker

Today's ginormous roundup is sponsored by Handy Apps and their newest app Photo Locker. If the developer's name sounds familiar, it's because they made other popular apps, like EasyMoney and Tasks N Todos.

As you might have already guessed, Photo Locker is a secure photo vault. Whether it's sensitive document scans or precious photos of your junk, you probably don't want anyone to see them without your permission. In order to view the photos you locked (encrypted using a 128bit AES algorithm), you'd need to enter a PIN code - otherwise they're as good as garbage. The app supports bulk hiding, folder-level locking, and even hides itself from the recent apps menu.

The base app is totally free to use but for $2.99 you can get rid of ads and hide the icon from the app drawer. Use Photo Locker, or else your grandma will find photos of your junk, and that would give DirecTV enough material to make a whole new commercial.

DEAD TRIGGER by MadFinger Games

Android Police coverage: Dead Trigger Finally Available In The Play Store, Temporarily On Sale For $0.99

Dead Trigger is one of the most awaited games of this year, and it doesn't disappoint. Mad Finger, the creator of Shadowgun and Samurai II, are gods of Android games and always push the graphics and gameplay to their respective limits. Compared to Shadowgun, however, this one contains in-app purchases. But then again, it's also way cheaper to get started ($0.99), and most people who played Dead Trigger agree that IAPs don't spoil it.

The world has collapsed. In 2012 modern civilisation is coming to an end. Global economics have been disrupted, money has lost its value. People have risen against the ignorant politicians who were just lining their pockets – and they didn't spare any of them. However, those who really ruled the world were prepared - and escaped. Suddenly billions of people died from a strange virus, while others turned into butcherly beasts with just one thought: TO KILL. Only a few people on the planet have survived, at least until they run out of ammo... or learn how to stop them...

- High quality 3D audio and a lively music soundtrack
- Character animations recorded using high-end motion capture

I haven't gone through all of them but as a former apple user (I can't wait for my nexus 7! i sold my iPad for it.)..one thing that stands out to me is 1.05 for a game? 3.21? what's with the odd prices? where's the standard .99 or 3.99 or 2.99?

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

Those are probably converted prices from foreign developers who didn't set prices specific to your country.

      • http://btwnworlds.tumblr.com/ Lou G

Ah, that would make sense! I'm new to Android, so I didn't think of that at all. I'm sitting here thinking "wow...Google will let people get away with anything!"

    • andiwd

Probably due to conversions. The developer has probably chose a price in their local currency that's been converted to the odd prices you see.

    • http://twitter.com/daveloft Dave Loft

It usually is .99 or 2.99 in the country the developer is from. But when it's purchased in another Country, Google does a currency conversion for the developer and you end up paying an odd amount like $1.05.

    • Himmat Singh

I don't see anything wrong with that. Even if you don't count the currency conversion, it's ok. Good infact. You don't see so generic pricing.

    • GazaIan

They're converted currencies. I honestly like this better because you can't overcharge or undercharge in another country.

  • http://www.torikomix.pl/ Adam Szopa

Neuroshima Hex is one of my favorite board games! Looking forward to playing it on my phone.

  • Josh C

Flow obviously designed for windows phone (its a free app on windows 8 too). That said, its actually a fun game, spent a bit of time playing it on windows 8, look forward to it on android.

  • http://twitter.com/dynomike666 Mike

Hey Artem, I'm sure these posts take a lot of time but they really set you apart from the other Android sites out there. GJ, keep it up.

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

      Thank you.

    • hyperbolic

      Totally agree with you!

      • Chris

        Thirding this.

  • Lachlan

Any chance of a full review of 'The Naked Gun: ICUP'?

Also, I see you pee... *hilarious* :-D

  • Himmat Singh

Well, I've only installed about 10% (7) game from this huge exhaustive list. Out of those, the ones I find respectable somewhat are Dead Trigger (but a big disappointment), Oscura and Puddle THD (refreshinly good!).

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=710725171 Karthik Nayak

this are some amazing games , nice list , thanks a lot :D

  • bobby.tables

Speedball is just pure awesomeness. Worth every penny. I loved it 20 years ago on my Amiga 500 and it is still so much fun! Brutal Deluxe FTW!

    • http://www.talltechtales.com/ Mattias

I saw Speedball, can't wait to try it! SB 2 BD was awesome on the Amiga...in fact...I'm pretty sure I still have the original disk somewhere...

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_MCERGZBEMMYO7SY23NYDXSLOIM db., heyu

I have a problem with all mobile platforms. The top apps are junky, digestible fodder... games.
It makes me wish that, (yes, through a lot of these game development, apps improve) that there were more useful applications to make mobile devices more indispensable. I don't need 10 different apps to wipe out background apps,or battery managers, cache cleaners. I'd like to see austerity Improvements in personal assistants, voice recognition, better GPS, money apps time apps, activity apps, not fruit ninjas, or angry birds. This are the things that make smart phones more then a cell phone.

    • Nicholas Loomans

It would help if you didn't look for those in a list of games...

  • Ping Ling

Broken sword looks interesting but 541MB???

    • http://www.talltechtales.com/ Mattias

I've seen a lot worse than that....

      • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

I think the record I've seen was 2GB.

  • Michael

I haven't downloaded so many games in a long time! i love how fast games are starting to come out!

  • http://www.talltechtales.com/ Mattias

Wow, you weren't kidding...I need a month at least to get through these. I've already been through some of them and there's some real good games on these pages. Good work getting it all together, Artem....as always!

  • http://twitter.com/alekhkhanna Alekh Khanna

Brilliant round-up. Installed nearly half the list ! GJ, Artem !

  • Andrew

That's probably the most impressive new games list I've seen yet for Android. Glad to see it's finally getting a steady stream of quality games (now if only we could get the same for tablets; hopefully Nexus 7 will prompt a change).

Thanks again for creating these roundups!!

  • CJ456

Man I haven't seen such a fine collection of Android games for a while!

Nice post indeed!! Just thought if you don't mind the suggestion, my kids love playing with T2 The Elf. One of the things I look for while allowing my kids to play is if the app is spamming kids with age inappropriate ads or not. This game has very clear graphics in my tablet and is not spammy
