Welcome to a very special edition of the Android Police Week in Review. This week was obviously all about Google I/O, so that's what we're going to be focusing on. Oh, and you can hear even more I/O-y stuff on our podcast.
GOOGLE I/O
- Nexus 7
- Feature: Nexus 7 initial impressions and hands-on.
- The Nexus 7: by the numbers.
- Full factory images for the Nexus 7 (JRN84D)
- Nexus 7 UK availability.
- Jelly Bean (Android 4.1)
- Feature: Getting to know Android 4.1, Part 1 - Slide Unlock / Software buttons / New Icons, or, An Obsessive Compulsive's Guide to Jelly Bean.
- Jelly Bean: the I'm-too-lazy-to-read-a-lot version.
- Galaxy Nexus Android 4.1 ROMs.
- Having trouble rooting the Galaxy Nexus on Android 4.1? We've got you covered.
- Download the "What's This Song" widget from Android 4.1 so you can annoy the hell out of your friends asking them to rewind like 8 times whenever you watch a movie.
- Download the new-and-improved (but still kinda ugly) Play Store from Jelly Bean.
- Jelly Bean Feature Rundowns
- A closer look at Jelly Bean's new camera.
- A closer look at Jelly Bean's new notifications.
- Project Butter: a smooth overview.
- Jelly Bean has an amazingly useful feature: app-specific notification disabling. What's that I hear? Is it an AirPush executive crying hopelessly?
- Jelly Bean's face unlock now requires you to blink, meaning evildoers now need to put eye cut-outs in their photos of you.
- Google Now is amazing and you're going to love it. Assuming it works. And you have a Galaxy Nexus or Nexus 7.
- Nexus Q
- Feature: The Nexus Q - is it as dumb as we think it is (probably not)?
- This is the Nexus Q. It's really pretty.
- Other
- Holy crap: Google had people jumping out of planes and BMX'ing through a convention center. And this, obviously, is how they introduced Project Glass.
- I/O Day 1 roundup.
- Google+ is now not horrible. So go do stuff on it.
- Google+ developer things are coming. Eventually.
- Day 1 keynote video.
- Day 2 keynote video.
- Android 4.1 has an Easter egg. Jelly beans are involved.
- You can now remotely update and manage apps from Google Play in the browser. Wooooooooo.
- Google Play now has magazines and TV shows that you still won't buy.
Some other news
- A comparison between the Transformer, Transformer Prime, and Transformer Pad Infinity. Surprise: the Infinity wins.
- Google TV still sucks and Google isn't making it unsuck.
- The Galaxy Nexus just got banhammered (bangaveled?) from the US by a judge.
- Google Earth for Android now has those fancy 3D buildings. Time to buy a drool-pan.
