When Google releases a new version of Android, it celebrates by putting a new statue outside of the Googleplex that represents the dessert-y codename.

The new one just landed.

There we have it - Jelly Bean is [basically] official. I'm sure we'll be hearing all about it tomorrow morning. Exciting!

I was wondering when this was going to land. I was getting nervous for a bit.

    Woohoo!

P.S. From now on Jean-Baptiste Queru shall be known as JellyBean Queru.

  • kpjackson

    Let the speculations about what "K" will be begin in 3 . . . 2 . . . 1 . . . .

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

      Killer Bee.

      • JordanMcRae

        That's a dessert? lol

        • Mati

No. It is a jinchuriki from Naruto Shippuden.

          • Konstantinos

             Oooh! Bakayarrroo!! Konoyarrrooo!! :P

    • Tib02

I think its Key Lime pie if I'm not mistaken.

    • Lexster

Yeah, I gotta go with Key Lime Pie, myself, too. Only other thing I could think of was Kiwi-something, but it's more of an ingredient than the name of a dessert.

    • Bachinphx

      Kotton Kandy?

    • Phil Edge

It's Key Lime Pie from what I've read

    • Adrianr514

      It's Krispy Kreme

  • Bariman43

Sweet, in every sense of the word! Extremely excited to see what new features Jelly Bean is going to have. Tomorrow can't come soon enough.

  • skitchbeatz

Can they fit 26+ statues on the lawn?

    • John

      Please. It's Google.

24... Remember, they didn't start doing statues until Cupcake.

Wow, in 7-9 years (depending on how quickly they get through the alphabet), the geeks and "blog-o-sphere" are going to go crazy trying to guess how Google will name Android versions after they've run out of letters.

Someone just spilled some beans... Literally!

  • Webster

A dev just gets 4G working for my CM9 Sprint Eco 3D, and now jellybean is coming out...

    • Simon Belmont

Wait, 4G is working on the Sprint HTC EVO 3D in CM9 now? That's awesome.

*Heads over to find more about this* Thanks for the tip.

    'Shopped ;-)

  • Gino

What will happen when strong winds or the rain hits? Before we had eclair floating away, now it will be Jelly beans all around. :P

  • fixxmyhead

cm team better expand cuz there taking forever

    • http://code.google.com/p/lg-v909 Aaron Echols

As a CM dev, I can tell you it takes time for these devices, especially since it was HUGE change from GB -> ICS. We've been porting ICS to the G-Slate for just about 7 months now. We have most everything functioning just now...

None of us are paid, so we take our time and do it as we can. So taking "forever" can happen for various reasons. Our case, has been mostly technical issues porting over because of zero support from LGE.

      • Simon Belmont

Thanks! Just wanted to thank you and the others who are doing all the great work on CM.

A lot of people squeeze a bunch more life out of their devices thanks to folks like you guys. Cheers!

you want it done at the snap of your fingers? Learn to port Android and do it yourself...

      • fixxmyhead

        yea im going to school

        • http://twitter.com/rohanXm Rohan Mathur

I'm a sophmore in high school and I'm a CM and Evervolv maintainer. So don't even say that going to school holds you back from developing. If I'm in honors and AP classes and I can do it, you can to. We take the time out of our "free time" to do work for the community. If you want things to get done faster, maybe you should help us out. It isn't easy being one person and porting an entire operating system.

So please, learn some manners, and then some programming.

        • FrazerMcIntosh

So am I, I'm 16. But I do what I can. I submit bugs when I find them, I dabble in the code to try and allow myself to help the devs. But I also don't moan at the people who are porting that code out of the goodness of their heart, out of their own time, despite people who expect the a working device as soon as the AOSP is updated.

Finally Google has spilled the Beans! :D

    • John

How many times are people going to keep saying this. We get it.

      • http://twitter.com/Flippy125 Flippy125

        I don't get it.

  • NemaCystX

Your pictures are much better than what other blogs are showing... kudos!

  • Steve Donaghy

    I'm calling K to be Key-lime pie!

    • http://codytoombs.wordpress.com/ Cody Toombs

People have been predicting K to be Key-lime Pie for about 2 years :)  Unless Google switches languages/cultures, it's basically the only K-named desert that is recognized in English/Western Civilization.  I'm already calling for L to be Lollipop.  Not quite sure what M will be, as Google won't chose anything to do with Mango now that Microsoft already used that on Windows Phone.

I know it's a weird point to make, but it's sad that Key-lime Pie will be abbreviated as KLP.  Just try typing ICS vs KLP.  KLP is just a little more awkward to type using a regular keyboard.  I admit it, that's the ultimate white-whine, but it's the kind of thing I think about when I spend so much time typing.

      • Jasonc07

It's interesting you say it is the only K-named dessert known in "English/Western Civilization" becuase I dont think anyone outside of America really knows Key-Lime Pie. Im sure some do but I have never heard of it in Australia or New Zealand. Sorry not trying to troll or be rude here I just always find it funny when people from the US (You are from the US right otherwise I may look slightly stupid lol) assuming things that are well known there are well know in the whole western world, So much so I wonder sometimes if you guys realise there are other major western english speaking countries. Rant over :)

      • Abc

        M= Meringue

        • Steve Donaghy

I'm not from America and I've heard of Key-Lime Pie (admittedly I've never been able to try the stuff, which is a shame). As for L and M, I'd quite like L to be Lemon Meringue but that's just because I love it.

  • Falken

How many of those beans will be stolen within the next few weeks.

  • Noles419

I can't wait for them to announce a new OS version when only 5% of android users are using the latest OS that was supposed to eliminate fragmentation all together...

    FAIL google... EPIC FAIL!

    • HeLLo

Epic fail?.The only epic fail here is YOU quit bitching about it and if you don't like how the updates roll you have 2 options:buy a Nexus or go get an iPhone. In the meantime quit your whinning it isn't going to fix anything.

    • okungnyo

      Actually, it's pure genius.

Leave manufacturers/carriers who refuse to push updates behind, by innovating rapidly.
Customer: "Why can't my Android phone run Google Assistant (Majel) or Google Chrome?"
Carrier: Because we're assholes and don't want to update your phone.
Customer: Fuck you, and hello Nexus!

This will slowly but surely spread awareness to Android's update problem.

  • Buddylee55

Lets make sure we all get pics first.

    • Buddylee55

      Im sorry ICS. First.

  • Kblueyes82

If I make puppy dog eyes, can I have one of those statues?
