Version 5 of the popular music-identifying app SoundHound just hit the Play Store, bringing a handful of enhancements and improvements to the app.

The first thing you'll notice is the new interface, which features a new homescreen with a "carousel of content" where you'll find top songs, most shared songs, and most tweeted songs. Also in the carousel is a new "song stream" feature where you can hear new singles from various artists directly within the SoundHound App.

One of my favorite things about the update is that it brings Spotify integration. Once you've searched a song, there's a new option to "Play Now in Spotify," which is absolutely fantastic.

The update also brings an improved LiveLyrics panel - simply double-tap it to expand the panel, or flip the phone into landscape to make it fullscreen.

The update is live now in the Play Store; hit the widget to grab it.

    • fixxmyhead

duh amazon appstore sucks. get with the times

      • jjrudey

Well it was the free app of the day that one time. So yeah.

        • fixxmyhead

well it was also one of the 10 cent apps in the market that one time (actually was repeated like 2-3 days) so yea

10cents and gets updated on time. i think its worth it

          • jjrudey

No reason to be a jerk. I'm just saying, it was free so that's why I still use the appstore.

        • fixxmyhead

It's a good day for app updates today (on my part of the world at least, only two hours in on June 8, 2012)!

Nope   i brought both apps  use it many many times . found SoundHound  is actually better than Shazam . SoundHound even found more music that are regional not internationally popular

I keep and use both apps, sometimes one can't recognize something the other can and the other way around. Actually use SoundHound more now that I think about it. Shazam was the original, so it's always going to be special.

I was always kinda torn between the two until I tried putting their widgets on my launcher screen.  The Shazam widget just shows you a crappy list of popular identifications, almost like Twitter's list of Trending topics.  Soundhound's widget is a straight forward button to start identification and then shows you what it found.  One is useful, the other is basically bad eye candy.  Considering widgets cost battery, I expect them to be good looking and extremely functional.

Awesome! Now for the wait for the Amazon App Store to get this update. I fell for it on FAotD deal

I'm pretty sure the spotify integration was not added in this update, but way before.

Hate the new UI, keep hitting the advert (this is on the paid version too) that was where the button used to be. The actual functional bit is moved to the top third of the screen.
